So a while back I read something on these boards about DMs threatening to buy a bunch of Purple Worm minis and paint them green. Well, I found them for under $3 each so started off by ordering 4 and my (art major) girlfriend painted them. One for the Apostle of Kyuss and Overworm. Discuss.

Certainly beats my tyrannosaur wrapped in an old sock!

What kind of paint is it, and can it be washed off?

is the middle one an ulgurstasta?

and uh...where'd you find them for $3? :)

I had the same thought (repainting the purple worm for AoW uses) but have been unable to find reasonably priced purple worm minis. The one at Icon is not *too* expensive ($6) but it's also not really in stock like the website says (they doth speak with forked tongue!). Three bucks isn't a bad investment but anything too far above that is too valuable to ruin with an alternate paint scheme.

These are acrylics, so as far as I know they don't wash off, but I also actually play the D&D Minis game and it's always good when you can bring an Overworm to the table. I also don't even run this AoW game, and I split the cost of 4 purple worms with my DM so we each get two to actually use in D&DM after the campaign is over.

Correct, I just gave another name for them.

You can find them cheaper then that, but you can order in bulk from this specific seller. And that listed shipping price by no means ends up being per figure.

There's also these guys if you're not so enthusiastic about ebay, and significantly more expensive but the site comes recommended.

Liberty's Edge

Those look cool! Well done

Is that Admiral Ackbar in the background of a couple of those shots?

Good eye. He belongs to my aforementioned DM as I used his desk to take the pictures.

They won't wash off, but if your artsy girlfriend didn't use a primer, it could chip off.

Pretty sure she did, though. :) Great paint job, I particularly on the ulgurstasta.

I just finished sculpting and painting an overworm. The sculpting took a couple of hours to do (I did it while my daughter was having her afternoon nap, so I was on a timeline), and the painting took a couple of more hours. I used some pretty heavy duty metal armature wire to make the spiral shape and then added the clay around it. I primed the whole thing with a white spray primer and then painted it with a combination of artists acrylic paints and my miniature paints. I'll probably spray with a sealer, but I haven't got to that yet. The main problem was that the armature wire wasn't quite strong enough to support the weight of the worm, so it sunk a bit while the clay was setting. If I did it again I'd take two of the wires and braid them first to make the armature stronger.
