Fiendish codex 3?

3.5/d20/OGL

Here's hoping that the folks at WoC will go a step beyond demons and devils and do a full codex on the yugoloths (my favorite fiends). My question is: for those of you out there who know all about earlier editions, what if any info can you share about yugoloths? They seem to have had a colorful history but were almost an afterthought with this new edition. Any info would, as usual, be greatly appreciated.

As a big fan of daemons I would love to see a book to sort out the mess with this race. Are they the brilliant geniuses who took away the teleportation ability of demons and devils in 2nd edition or the wimps found in 3rd edition monster books. I think somewhere between would be what we all would like.

Unfortunately that may be the most difficult book to write given the disparity of previous work. I don't know if a book would be given justice unless Erik and James take the plunge again.

I'd personally love to work on a Fiendish Codex 3; the daemons (aka yugoloths) and other "minor" fiends like demodands and hordlings do indeed need their own book. Unfortunately, they're also one of the most hard to pin down groups out there; the yugoloths have certainly not recieved the respect they deserve so far in 3rd edition. So I wouldn't get one's hopes up too high about the prospect of FC3 coming along anytime soon...

AP4, perhaps?

Adventure Path 4: Eternal Champions (APEC)

Various incarnations of the Champion Eternal (a la Moorcock -- Elric, Corum, etc) band together to prevent the multiverse from being destroyed by yugoloths. This plane-hopping campaign will cross the worlds of Greyhawk, FR, Eberron, Mystara, and whatever others the writers can think of to keep all the fans happy.

OK, probably not.

Amen (with the irony that statement carries when talking about 'loths).

I hope that WotC does a 'loth/'leth themed FC3, but at the same time I'd only want it if the book was written well, and the 'loths have gotten a very inconsistent depiction at times in various 3.x books. The little tidbits on them (and their makers) that showed up in FC1 were nice, and you and Mona are on the short list of folks I could see doing the topic justice.

Of course I'm also holding out hope that Dragon does something 'loth related since I know that some folks, myself included, have had some detailed pitches up in limbo for a while.

But given what you said above James, would you be at all favorably disposed towards any Dungeon pitches involving 'loths?

Absolutely. In fact, we might just have a few adventures featuring 'loths in the works already...

Will you have to adhere to the MMIII stats for the ultroloth? Or could we see a CR 18 or 20?

I would not want to send in an adventure involving daemons as they are portrayed in MMs, when there is very good chance they will receive justice in a FC3 because the adventure would no longer be compatible. Often people who subscribe to Dungeon do not use the adventures right away.

Scarab Sages

I just want to see stats for the General of Gehenna. And maybe some new stats for Nycaloths (my absolute favorites).

Is there no chance that a 3rd party publisher would pick up on this and make something close to official?

Like Green Ronin's "Book of Fiends?"

Anyway, if we use yugoloths in an adventure, we're pretty much bound by the 3.5 incarnations from the MM III. But that doesn't mean that when we DO include an ultroloth that we won't advance his stats back up so that he's a right and proper menace...

As for those from earlier editions that haven't been updated to 3.5 rules yet (arcanaloth, I'm looking at you!) we can certainly rebuild their stats into something that more properly reflects their history and role in D&D. We aren't bound to those old 3.0 rules At All.

IIRC earlier this year either Erik(I think) or you said he would not be interested in doing FC II. The reason may have been exhaustion from FC I or not wanting to deal with the many changes and inconsistencies over the years. I spent the last two hours searching for that post to no avail, too many FC post. So if you could help me find it or refresh my memory I would greatly appreciate it.
