This worthy is mentioned repeatedly in the "scaling the adventure" sidebar, yet no sign of the scalawag can I find. Is he actually "Navesh," except with a cooler name that got dropped for some reason? Or is he prominently obvious, but I'm blind and can't find him because my Search bonus is too low (if so, apologies in advance).

And speaking of Navesh, Appendix 2 was apparently originally intended to have phanaton stats... no complaints; Navesh is playable "as is," but I wondered if those base stats will appear in maybe Adventure #4?
But these are minor complaints at best. A rip-roaring adventure, Mr. Logue (the stilt-walkers rule!) and a worthy follow-up to James Jacobs' instant classic.

Mr. Logue,
Thanks for the reply! But, really, how can anyone not love an adventure involving pirates, evil carnies, and class-level bullywugs all one right after another?
Another question, if I may: how did you get hit up to do this one? I'm sure the evil geniuses at Paizo don't just put together 12 "themed" submittals and edit them into an Adventure Path...

Jajirlok was a savage blackscale lizardfolk who was imprisoned with the rest of the slaves deep in the caves. He turned savage and managed to escape, and was originally encountered by the PCs in the room with the slaves. It was a pretty cool encounter, but we had to cut it at the last minute since the adventure was a page too long. And the encounter itself didn't really add anything to the mythos of the Savage Tide; losing it didn't rob the adventure of any more background information.
The phanatons were updated in Dragon in the Creature Catalog IV (the issue with the Lady of Pain on the cover). Dungeon doesn't reprint entire monster stat blocks if we pick up a new monster from a WotC product or an issue of Dragon, so as a result, we didn't do a new monster style stat block for the phanaton in this adventure. And we wouldn't have had room for one anyway...

I can answer this one: When we do an Adventure Path, we divide the plot into 12 adventures fairly early on. Each has an outline written (Erik wrote the outline for Age of Worms, and I wrote it for Savage Tide) that details the key encounters for each adventure, the plot outline, and notes what elements and revelations the adventure has to featrue. We then picked 12 or so authors by choosing a mix of authors who we've worked with before and trust to come through with an awesome adventure on time and assigned each of the 12 adventures to them, based upon who we think will do the best with each plot.
Nick got assigned part 2 because he's an excellent adventure writer, and because he happened to be visiting the Seattle Area at the time we were deciding who would write part 2. Being able to sit down with the author and brainstorm ideas is immensely helpful (Nick's the one who came up with the whole "Wormfall Festival" part of the adventure, for example).

I can answer this one...
Wow-- thanks for the responses. I might have added in Jajirlok myself (poor Ripclaw got wiped out by the Darfellan barbarian in 2 rounds), but space limitations are certainy understandable.
As far as selecting writers, I had an idea the approach might be something like that; in any event, it's a winner. Thanks again!

Thank you for the stat! I was just looking through the scaling, myself, and this will add a nice, extra encounter. Much obliged, Rasmar!
We start The Bullywug Gambit next Friday, and I can't wait for them to see the first signs of the Savage Tide.
