Have you seen the Yellow Sign?

;)

Saw the link for the Player's Guide out there.

Three questions:
1. Is it really needed to play and enjoy the STAP?
2. Does it have background material for the DM not found elsewhere in the issues?
3. As it sounds like a good prep guide to have on hand before starting a campaign, any chance we'd see a similar guide for the earlier APs or perhaps some of the 3 adventure arcs?

Not really. It'll help, though, especially if you want to expand the adventure or if your PCs are the type that enjoy exploring D&D cities. It'll really help most during character creation (primarilly in determining how your PCs fit into the campaign). It also has several district feats that PCs from Sasserine can take; these feats aren't reprinted elsewhere.

Yes. The aforementioned district feats, information on how the city watch works in each district, notes on the black market and exotic animal trade, and a few more tidbits are not repeated elsewhere.

It's primary function is to give PCs something to familiarize themselves with before the campaign begins, or for DMs who wish to expand the Sasserine adventueres.

We have no plans to do similar products or guides for the other adventure paths or campaign arcs, althgouh we'd love to do them going forward (mostly for adventure paths).

In any case, remember that the whole Savage Tide Player's Guide will be going online as a free PDF fairly soon, so getting the info from it shouldn't be a problem. If you want a nice, full-color hardcopy though... I think it's worth the 5 bucks! :)

It is most defintely worth $5 - this is a very high quality production, plumb-full of useful information and stunning cartography.

Even if you have no intention of running The Savage Tide (what are you thinking?!?) it's a fleshed out port city that can be dropped anywhere. I mean the only thing I am still left wondering about is what the beaches are like...

The beaches in Sasserine are pretty nasty, alas. The city's canal system doubles as its sewer system, so what washes up on the beaches is pretty nasty before it gets carted away by a dredger for incineration. The area surrounding the city is mostly marshland... the transition from marsh to sea is mostly soggy mud and bullywug-infested saltmarsh, for the most part.

Lounging on the beach isn't a big attraction in Sasserine as a result. :-)

Liberty's Edge

I just ordered mine last week...

I hope it will get fast across the Atlantic !

Can't wait to read it (and Dungeon 139), since I want to start a new campaign around the end of this month.

Argh..., get faster, get faster, you little STPG !!

Thanks for the info James!

And congratulations on the new job as Editor-In-Chief.

(same question as on other post)

Hi everybody,

I'd like to have a piece of information about Sasserine, since my Dungeon and my STPG won't arrive here in France before next week.

Is Sasserine a city with lots of mixed races, a kind of "land of opportunities" ?

The thing is that there could be a bugbear PC, and maybe other strange races, and I'd like to know if this could be ok in Sasserine, if he would get at least indifference, or better, tolerance ????

Thanks.

I was a little disappointed by the Savage Tide Player's Guide. Only 16 pages! It's nice and shiny though, in full color. Not so bad for only $5, but I would have rather more pages over full color.

Most noticeably missing were the race/class guidelines for chargen like Dungeon #124 had for Age of Worms.

Eberron/Forgotten Realms would have been nice too :-)

I got mine last week. Don't know how soon it'll be useful to me since I prolly won't be running the STAP for a long time. But I likes. Also, if I ever run the SCAP again, Sasserine will be a fully detailed city instead of a faceless blob where you can get cool magic items "somewhere to the north" of Cauldron.

Conventional Neutral Good city of 15,650 souls. $40K gp limit with 31,300,000gp assets. 77% human, 6% half-elf, 5 halfling, 4% gnome, 4% dwarf, 2% elf, 1% half-orc, 1% other.

There are about 156 "others" wandering the streets of Sasserine so perhaps there is a Hobgoblin or two? Personally, I imagine a world where monsters are real and rarely tolerated in polite society. But the cool thing is that you can do whatever your heart desires. I say roll with it...

I have ordered mine on August 20 and still haven't received it. Since I am living in Germany I expect the shipping time to be well some time but nearly three weaks? The item also doesn't appear on my order history, but I got the confirmation e-mail of the order. Have I done something wrong?

BTW Issue 139 hasn't arrived in Berlin, too. As I live in Munich and normally don't purchase Dungeon here, I wonder if I searched in the wrong spot. Anybody knows anything about it? (I am just asking as I know there are other Germans on these boards as well)

Can't wait to get either.

Three weeks to Germany is not unusual, we hear.

You ordered it using a different account (the one @web.de). We shipped it on the 21st.

I ordered two copies of the Savage Tide Player's Guide the week before last week (either that or last week actually; my memory is so poor since my last birthday. *sigh*). Hopefully I will get it sometime this week or next week. Since I live in Canada (that much is obvious, eh?), I would imagine that it would take a while for my order to arrive. It was also the first time I actually decided to get a subscription order. The idea of running a campaign with pirates and dinosaurs was too good to pass it up. Only thing missing is ninjas, ;)

Plus, the writers of the adventures are all good folks (Pett, Vaughn, and Logue, to name a few), so I know the overall campaign path will be worth it. All I need now is a case or two of grog for me and my players (primarily for the players as running a game while hammered out of your skull is not necessarily a smooth way to run a game, unless it is all roleplaying. On the other hand, it does provide ample amusement for the wives and girlfriends of the gents playing the game).

I look forward to the year full of good times ahead.

Cheers.

CB out.

Thank you very much Vic! I just wanted to be sure that I am going to hold this lovely guide in my hands.:)

I preordered 4 copies, then picked up 2 from the Paizo booth at DragonCon because I couldn't wait to get them. I'm providing a copy to each of my players, and keeping one for myself.

There's a lot of good info packed into a very small package there. I find that just having named NPCs and locations makes it easier for me to give them a bit of personality when my players decide to go there.

I'm hoping my players use the different districts of the city to give their PC backgrounds some flavor. Can't wait to get my hands on the next Dragon so I can look over the affiliations. I love the idea of having a player attached to the Scarlet Brotherhood. Hopefully someone will rise to the challenge that will present.
