A chaotic party getting blessings from the Wind Dukes?

Age of Worms Adventure Path

I have a party that consists of mostly CG and NG characters. We are a bit off from returning to the cairn, but I am having a bit of trouble thinking that Icosiol would bestow a blessing upon these creatures.

Should I make it more of a good blessing to fight the forces of evil? That seems to really screw with the whole concept of the Wind Dukes.

I didn't really think about it when we were going through the first mod, but I kept saying that these were creatures that fought on the side of Law in the battle between Law and Chaos. I wonder now if they were like... cool we are looting the enemies tomb.

I'd say, give the party the blessings, but pick one for a scapegoat to curse, to sorta balance things out and maintain order in the universe. Dez, for instance, would fit the bill perfectly.

I had the same question myself. Fortunately I had two LG characters in the party who were very careful to disturb as little in the tomb as possible. The other two characters were neutral. One of the neutral characters followed the lead of the LG characters and disturbed nothing. The other insisted on stealing everything that wasn't nailed down behind the party.
When they got to the final resting place of Icosiel, I had the spirit of the Wind Duke General blow the Neutral pillager from the chamber and gave the blessings to the two Lawful characters and the neutral character that "played nice."
I guess my final answer would be if they were respectful in the Wind Duke's tomb, give them the blessings. If they treated it as another dungeon pillage, I wouldn't.
But that's just me.

Really, the wind dukes fought against the forces of Chaotic Evil more than Chaos. They never really went toe to toe with thew eladrin or the slaadi as far as I know. Aside from that, the arrival of Kyuss presages a world in which society is completely demolished and law and order goes out the window. The 'chaos' that the PCs can cause is probably inconsiquential by comparison. In one way I can see your point, though. Why would the wind dukes bless chaotic creatures given their absolute lawfulness? Perhaps the blessing itself does not focus on the alignment of the bearer, but rather what he or she intends to do with it?

I tend to agree with Phil L. on this. The characters should get the blessing. Also, I tend to draw a distinction between alignment of mortal characters and alignments of the extraplanar entities that the Wind Dukes originally fought. You know how when you read the description fo the Detect alignment spells (Detect Evil, Good, etc.), the only mortals that tend to show up are the clerics that have the aura. I think the Wind Dukes would see it the same way.

"These mortals may not make the appropriate choices, but they are fickle and could change if given the right motivation."

Liberty's Edge

Good points, one and all...
But you don't know Dez. He just deserves to be coised by the Wind Dukes.

Thanks for all the feedback folks... I am just going by what the AP says about the Wind Dukes. I have never run accross the stories of them before. I have read here that they are a fairly big part of the Grayhawk world. I am much more familiar with FR, but decided to play this in GH as it was written.

Oh and Heath... don't worry... Dez will certainly get the short end of the stick... he is a halfling bard.

Liberty's Edge

Make him dance on the table while Dolomite the Wizard shoots magic missiles at his feet. Dance hobbit dance!
I miss youse guys. Gotta live vicariously through you....
