We will be using the World Serpent Inn extensively in the next Campaign Classics issue of Dragon.
That's not what I was talking about in the editorial, though. :)

Relax guys! I have it on VERY poor authority, that it is none other then the Inn of the Vulgar Unicorn. Erik acquired the rights to the Thieves' World series novels just so that he could satisfy his dark obsession. ;-)
'Erik Mona' is Gygax's new non-de-plume.
Now THAT is funny... on oh so many levels!! ;-)

I have no interest in writing on Rary at all.
Now, writing about Robilar is a different matter which I am very keen on, and Erik has queried me on this at times in the past. Perhaps in between installments of Maure Castle and Pied Piper's many projects I have slated, as well as some other free-lance activities, I can find the time to do some justice to the subject matter. When I ask such things of Erik or James they are sometimes, erh, burdened. There are so many good projects brewing at Paizo, can't blame them in the least for being busy, of course (Keep Going! Heh.). Please note that this is a subject I would love to expand on in more concrete ways, such as in book form, to do his history, holdings and adventures justics, so snippets in the DUNGEON, for instance, might only whet the appetite and not fulfill that end. IOW, I'd prefer writing a major related work (or series) on him, and perhaps including those short stories and adventuring tales as well from the day, of which I have many extant (Journey to the City of the Gods, and others which did or didn't appear in DRAGON's Up on a Soap Box).

That sounds like an interesting project (or idea for a project.) I don´t know if just telling the story would do the trick, but if it were an adventure in which, for some reason, details of Robilars life would be very important, and the PCs have to piece it together, or even relive it as viewers, might just be a piece that all those intrigued by the often-hinted-at history of Robilar would love to have.

Haven't you ever read Edgar Rice Burroughs?
Funny you mention that. I was just talking about him yesterday. I know that many authors, for one reason or another, milk their theme for all it's worth and more.
But there were a few year when Stephen King mentioned his writing schedule and his book count seemed to greatly exceed his pages per day quota. I'm not saying I know diddly squat in the way of the truth of the matter. Only that I got a feel he may be employing a writing staff the way Rembrandt may have employed a painting staff.
Do you remember this illustrated book of ERB's children's stories, taking place mainly in Africa? I loved that book as a kid.

For sure. The adventure I have in mind is already outlined and the stories themselves could poasibly fit in somewhere if not in a separate book by themeelves. This is all Greyhawk related, so WotC would have to approve of it, or opt to do it themselves. Ideas, Ideas, but something which is indeed close to my gaming heart.

CO-rrection! (not that anyone particularly cares but I didn't want to take the chance that I might send someone off on a wild goose chase for a non-existant book)
That was Rudyard Kipling's book of African children's tales or some such. The EGB book I had was a color illustrated book of Tarzan. Still have it around here somewhere.

Lol. Hardly... dass gud. You don't happen to remember the TV show do you? Because Sean Cassidy and Parker Stephenson didn't exactly exude manliness.
Going back to the 40 year old virgin you-know-how-I-know-you're-gay game. You know how you know I'm gay? When I was nine I wanted to be Sean Cassidy. There I said it. I had posters up on the walls that came out of teen magazines. Oddly enough, I grew up to front a hard rock band before an audience of thousands. When I was eleven I won a disco dancing contest at a place called the Teen Club on Fort Devens, in Ayer MA. I wasn't an army brat but I could get on base. I was a rock/disco kid. They say the only one to ever be born in captivity.
The only upside is that I dance real black.

hey, Lets not knock the Gor novels too much.
Thanks to the ridiculous overreaction by the PC movement in the early 90's those novels are now rarity items. It makes me laugh that the better novels of the series..#1 to about # 6 are the easiest to find and the cheapest, while the crap filled later novels #20 to 25 are almost impossible to find and go for $50+ at used book stores, all because political correctness reduced their print runs..
sorry, back on topic, I hope the secret project is greyhawk related, Greyhawk city update would be great but what I would really like is more adventures in the land of black ice or in the sea of dust or farther west of that..
Give me wilderness with some ancient history and lost civilizations...yummy..

By the way are there 3.5 stats for Robilar
Rary was in fact Brian Blume's PC, somehow put together with Robilar.
There are no current 3.5 stats for Robilar, as I have not pursued the project to that point as yet, sorry. Only OD&D/1E stats exist, and these can also be found in the initial release of TSR's "Rogues Gallery," (co-authored/compiled by Brian Blume, in fact), copyright 1980.
I hope to find time to sculpt the adventure notes into a useable form and pull together all existing material and stories, published or unpublished on him, and have, since you've been inquiring, been organizing a file for that in my spare time (very litte these days, but if I drink enough coffee I seem to find some). The material is quite extensive, including an old map on Otto's Holdings, which was drawn and populated after the sack of Robilar's Castle (post-ToEE debacle).
I appreciate the continued interest, as it is encouraging, to say the least. :)

Ernie Gygax's 2nd PC, Erac (his first was Tenser), died of starvation within the depths of Greyhawk Castle (second version, which I was the co-DM for). None too happy with the result :O
Ernie crafted a new PC and just named him, "Erac's Cousin." He was pretty neutral until turning to evil ways when the Gods (specifically Zeus who he called upon with a Gate spell) forsook him during yet another adventure DMed by myself and EGG, the result of which "Erac's Cousin" ended up in the Demonworld I had designed for the campaign and had to find his way back. In the process he lost his two vorpal blades and upon returning alive abandionned the gods and started worshipping devils instead. The tale is recounted in "Robilar Remembers"(on PPP's website, I believe) and I have written a second Greyhawk Demonworld adventure story (unpublished) in which my brother Terry (playing his 3rd Greyhawk campaign PC, "The Monk With No Name") and two other campaign stalwarts ended up there by mischance.

Yep. That is the reason I could not get through all of ERB's books, though with Conan and REH they were shorter slices (at times) and more easily digested, and set in an ongoing story line, pieced together in short, interesting ways. I don't read King either, spare me the 50 pages of run-on character descriptions and background please. :/ YMMV.
Yeah, ERB is a bit of acquired taste. First you need to like that plot, then you need to be into reading it 50 times. :-P
But if you do, then you can wallow in Pulp Heaven with him.And yes, REH is the same, just in short stories.
I like King though, and other writers with extended background expositions like that. I find it an fascinating contrast with the short and sweet Pulp style. It is definitely an acquired taste though.

3.)Who are your other famous characters?
4.) When you played TOEE it was Robilar solo?
5.) How long did you guys play?all day at night
6.) Do you guys still play to this day?

Maure Castle was my Favorite module!
1) Those titles didnt exist when we were playtesting the game in 1973/74. So, no. But he went to China via a slide in GH Castle and came back alive the long way... ToEE (in its original, unpublished MS form) was the only "published" module (besides the original Tomb of Horrors, again in MS form) which I went into, and there is an interesting story regarding how my character came out of semi-retirement that day to do so... It was a spur of the momenet adventure. Ask later. ;)
2) Castle "El Raja Key". (my intials are in there). El= "The" and the R-J-K is interspersed, so... "The Castle of RJK," or "Rob's Castle". WG5 is a handy reference for that, as is the article by EGG reprinted with permission in DUNGEON #112, but they were Mordenkainen, Yrag, Bigby and Riggby.
3) One of my "famous NPCs" was OTTO, of course. I only played one other PC for 1 adventure, which was Nedlog (a shape-changing golden Dragon) and just to start a new PC in the 2nd Greyhawk Castle. I played an elf prince in David Sutherlands game--lots of fun.
4) Robilar went solo and Quij (his orc companion) remained outside with the griffon steed and the flying carpet.
5) When playtesting D&D we were playing/DMing almost every day of the week for many, many months, sometimes until we dropped. My longest marathon game took place in Tucson, AZ (lived there for 3 years) and was about 60 hours straight. :) Can't do those anymore, wouldn't want to, either!
6) I play at cons. Erik and James, as well as my own publishing concern, keep me way too busy otherwise, that and posting here, at PPP and at DF or the Acaeum.
No Prob. I'm seemingly tireless today.
I am very glad you like Maure Castle. Erik's idea to revitalize a classic (WG5) was a superb one, and guiding hands such as his and James Jacob's lend much verve to it in the long run, too. :)
And no thanks would be complete without including Lisa, of course. :)
More on the horizon, too, which I am very happy to say. :)

It depends on where you try to get them from. The various packs contain mostly random minis, so that is no guarantee to get a complete set. If you want that you could trade for them or maybe buy the singles off the internet. I know of Paizo and Strikzone selling them, and of those two Strikezone is usually has the lower prices. Some of the rare, large, and huge minis can get expensive (I think Paizo had the Drizzt mini for like $200).
As far as Greyhawk minis, I know they did Mordenkainen. Not sure who else.

Tell me about it. There have been many discussions on these boards about the way WotC has been selling minis. I keep hoping that the company will start offering some non-random sets (such as all orcs, or maybe all drow).
However, speaking of separate minis, have you seen the iconic dragon minis? I have both of them, and let me tell you that even if I never use them in a game, they are still cool to own. The colossal red is friggin big!

I just got my first look at the picts which OJ kindly linked me to. I'd want to collect specific minis for set battles in my campaign and am _way less_ likely to invest in something which is a "cracker jack surprise" in every box. I'll stick to metal for the real deal until WotC changes their marketing strategy, which is no doubt working for them right now, so more power to them as a business.

There are some hefty prices on some, and others appear reasonably priced. They (WotC) certainly could use some more Greyhawk, after all it is the "default" setting. Go to e-bay if your looking for individual pieces; although I must warn you, monsters such behoder and other great classics carry a hefty price, but for some reason paizo seems to have doubled or even tripled prices, e-bay is where you'll find more reasonable prices. Check out my store crafty collections.
Yes the miniature game sell boosters with random contents. The way around this is to buy by the case. Online dealers sell cases for around 90.00 dollars 8figs per booster 12 boosters per case thats 96 figs, thats a dollar a fig. cases also insure a good chance of getting the whole set minus 4-8 fig.
I have like 4,000 mini's
