I realize that there are multiple core classes and prestige classes made to fit the feel of a Necromancer. However, I plan on using one class and sticking with it. Here are the choices; Wizard specializing in Necromancy, The True Necromancer Prestige Class from Complete Divine, The Dread Necromancer Core Class from Heroes of Horror, and the Dread Master of Orcus Core Class from the Dragon Compendium. Which Class best captures the feel of a Necromancer?

well, you could go with the true necromancer from libris mortis, which includes cleric and mage levels, a desecration aura, and some other nasty stuff.
also, a wizard/cleric with the death domain, or undead domain would be cool. add in a smattering of undead and corpsecrafter feats from the lib. mort. and you've got your bad guy. it all depends on what you want him to do and be. hell, i've had guys calling themselves necromancers that were jsut nobles that liked to dig up dead bodies. make the bad guy the way you think he would be played and then build him around that, call him the Necromancer, and wah lah. there you go.

This question comes up all the time, and the answer is "no."
Necromancy is very popular and no one seems to bre able to do it properly, and True Necromancers are such a badly balanced class they'll actually make you hate your character, and maybe DnD.
This being the case, I wrote over 60 pages of new material for Necromancers at http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=632562
Tome of Necromancy
I also stuck to Rules as Written and wrote another 60 pages on DnD Necromancy. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=599129
Revised Necromancy Handbook
I hope that helps.

I am currently embroiled in your comprehensive Tome of Necromancy thread. If I'm not back in an hour, send someone in after me.
