Well, after reading issue 135 Im already startin to gear up for the grand finale. Suggestions on a mini that could work for The Wormgod? Being that Kyuss is a Huge creature, I wouldnt be beyond using an action figure for the ordeal, if one was appropriate.
I am mulling over getting this and converting it, adding a few greenstuff worms etc

You could use a Ring Wraith from LOTR (might be too big), or a cloaked Darth Maul(possibly too small). I'll keep thinking but those were the first two to pop into my head.

I found a 6" figure, by (I believe) Toy Biz,and best of all, it was in the remainder shelf, at Home Bargains, at a very reasonable £1.99!
Cloth cape, detachable weapons, and an empty hood, which can be filled with worms (how about modeller's Green Stuff? Already the right colour!).The same range also had an Aragorn with a detachable rubber raincoat, which could stand in as a Huge Dread Wraith with no lower body, if you stick it on a base with a peg up the middle...

Wow, those are sweet!
I used a ring wraith figure to construct my Kyuss. I used apoxy putty to cover the arms with worms. His mace was crafted from a paint brush, apoxy putty, cardstock, and various spikes from other old minis.
Apart from the mace it was actually quite easy to create.

If I ever get there in the AP, I'm using Cthulhu from Horrorclix.

Okay, it's not 100% right, but it's got the right feel and it's a good size (friggin' huge!).
Well, if you consider a 30mm "average human" mini to be about 6', then that statue is 68' tall...true 1/64 scale would be over 85' tall. Either way, that's well into the Colossal size category, not Huge. Are you planning to cheese him as a Colossal and say "my players won't know the stats anyway" or are you going to up-stat Kyuss to a Colossal?
By my math, a Huge creature shouldn't be more than a 6" action figure, right?
Oh, and don't forget to increase the size of the spire-top...your big 'ol Cthulhu is going to take up a lot of space ;)

D'oh! Yeah, Cthulhu is definitely colossal. I haven't actually read the last adventure (we're only on Blackwall Keep). I just assumed Kyuss was colossal based on the illustrations on the cover of Dungeon magazine and Elder Evils. Maybe I will use the Nightbringer from Warhammer 40,000 then.

Sure, 'carlturner2@hotmail.com' is his e-mail address. As this is his hobby, and not his job, the turn around for my last commission (all the AoW stuff) was about 6 months.
He uses a copper wire armature for the basic 'skeleton', then molds the model around it using Sculpy clay, then heats it to cure.
The Overworms were just simple WoTC Purple Worms, modified with some 'green stuff' epoxy.
They are all one-offs, per my specifications, as I only needed certain monsters (pretty much all the Aberrations that WoTC has never bothered to sculpt-or sculpted horribly). So, sorry no molds, but I'm sure he could recreate anything he has already done, as I know he has saved all the photos of the customs he made for me.

I don't know if anyone saw this from Reaper:

fyi Reaper has all kinds of good stuff for D&D if you don't mind painting.
Jim
I've got that fig, as well as many others from Reaper I've been using for AoW. Its next on my "to paint" list. The purple worm from Reaper is another great fig that works really well as an urgulstasta.

![]() |

How big is the Reaper figure??
I got their "demonic lasher" for STAP, but it is only a large figure. I will still use it for Demogorgon as it is very cool, but it would be nice to get something in scale.
They have a purple worm in their pre-painted range to be released soon, if it isn't already.

The worm corpse fig is, unfortunately, scaled to medium size. It still makes for a good spawn of Kyuss, though. The purple worm is a pretty big hunk o' metal, usable for huge or gargantuan size. The tail coming out of the ground is a seperate piece (included with the figure, of course) so its size is adjustable.
I also have the demonic lasher, a cool mini. Too bad it isn't quite big enough for Demogorgon. There is also a fig, I think its called the Dark Prince, that is perfect for Graz'zt.

Kang |

Wow, some cool Kyuss minis here, not to mention all the other ones that have been posted...
Note, since some purple worms have been posted and are still being discussed, both WotC's DDM line and Reaper minis have purple worms for your ulgurstasta needs. Reaper's is in pewter (with the separate tail piece that was mentioned) and in significantly cheaper prepainted plastic (without), while WotC's is a fair bit bigger & scarier looking than Reaper's. From the artwork, the ulgurstasta is really more fat and grub-like than wormy, plus they have all those eyes above the mouth, so some conversion work may be desired for either company's purple worm to work really well, but for myself, I opted just to paint my Reaper pewter purple worm in ulgurstasta colours, only with a hint of green added in since the one in the Champion's Belt adventure is a "special" ulgurstasta. Y'know, it being Kyuss's apostle and all...

True, the figs are a bit on the small side, but that's the downside to metal; to make a scale fig of Demogorgon or Kyuss would be very heavy and prohibitively expensive. OTOH, you could use 15mm character figs with the monsters if you want to get dramatic effect. In any event, Reaper has a lot of excellent D&D-able figs (compare their Pit Fiend and Prince of the Undead to the WOTC plastic, for example).

Loki_Thief |

The latest D&D Minis expansion, Against the Giants, contains a pretty good option-- the Yuan-ti Anathema is a Huge, vaguely humanoid figure, with a body made up of a mass of snakes. Not a perfect match for big K, but a good option for the painting-impaired (like me).

Shoggothic |

This may be a dead thread, but as I am about to embark on the 'Champion's Belt' adventure, I figured I'd share with all of you the idea I had for the "Apostle" Ulgurstasta in my game. It is an old Mongoose miniature for the defunct Starship Troopers miniatures game called a 'Burrower Bug'.
Even though they are out of production, I have found them MiB (there are 2 per box) on eBay for $20 or less listed a couple times a month. Hope this helps anyone still looking for a good Ulgurstasta mini! See link for pic.

Shogg

Shoggothic |

That's an awesome suggestion for the Urgulstasta!
Yeah, after an exhaustive search, I found it to be the only miniature that even comes close to satisfying my requirements for an Urgulstasta miniature.
I'm also trying to get a hold of a ringwraith action figure to kyussify
Try searching for the 'Witch King Ringwraith' action figure by Toy Biz on eBay/Google, as it has the best shroud for a Kyuss figure. Avoid the 'Morgul Lord Witch King' action figure, as it has the lame crown and the shroud isn't as cool. Also, make sure to buy the blister-packaging version of the 'Witch King Ringwraith' and not the gift/special edition-packaging, as it is about $10 cheaper on average for the exact same figure.
Hope that helps! Hale Kyuss!

Shogg

Asberdies Lives |

I know this thread is years old, but my group is finally getting close to the end (halfway through the Wormcrawl Fissure now), so I've been looking for a figure for Kyuss. I don't want to hit the pivotal final battle and have to drop a "huge" potted cactus or something on the grid.
Last week at a toy store, I found the "Raven Spawn" figure from the McFarlane Spawn series. It's about the right size, although I'll need to build a 3" x 3" base for it. Definitely looks deathy and cloaky and has a pretty sweet executioner's axe. You lose the whole worm component of Kyuss, which is a really cool characteristic, but short of sculpting something yourself or covering "Raven Spawn" with rotted ham and live maggots, I think it would be hard to find something.

Pop'N'Fresh |

I bought the 11" ringwraith poseable action figure from Lord of the Rings off Amazon. It was 19 bucks or so, pretty cheap.
The only downside is that I'll need to find something to use for his mace. I was going to make some green worms out of modelling apoxy similar to what another person did on the boards and stick them all over the figure's hands, feet, and inside his hood. Then paint a couple yellow eyes into it and voila, done.
I'm confident I can find a Huge (3x3) base at a hobby store to glue him onto.

I will be using one of those for my mini also, but I don't know much about crafting anything. Do they actually sell bases, or will I have to make my own? If so how will I make it? My figure does not stand up so well.

There is a company called Litko Aerosystems that makes bases up to 3"x3" out of what ever material you want them to be (wood, plastic, etc.). They also do custom jobs, as I had them make some 4"x4" and 6"x6" bases for me for the Gargantuan and Colossal sizes respectively.

These are really great! Do you have pictures of the finished pieces? I'd love to see them in all their painted glory! :-p
I think one version has a "sword swinging action" with a button on the figure's back. This one has plastic robes.
There is a more authentic one out there with cloth robes that stands 11" tall, that's what I got :P
My Kyuss is gonna be BIG
Well, I got the RotK ringwraith and it also has cloth robes (except the head part - that would have been challenging with the figure having... well... no head :-p). So for anyone out there that thinks the 11' figure may be too big, this is a nice alternative.

I had great success with using puffy fabric paint to simulate the "worms" on my Kyuss mini. You have to be patient when adding layers of worms. The stuff takes a few minutes to dry, but then you add a new layer of "worms" by using small linear dabs of the fabric paint. I use partial blacklights in my game room so I used florescent fabric paint and the effect was stunning!! I'll try to get an image up. My gaming group thought I bought it!

Actually, I am having Andy over at Dark Platypus Studios recast them all in an rtv rubber, with metal bits for appendages. I am not too familiar with the Sculpy that the original sculptor used, so to be on the safe side I'm commissioning Andy to make molds of them and recast them in a super-strong material, with the added bonus of having the ability to remake as many as desired. When they get painted up, I will send you a link!
On a side note, Andy makes the best Gelatinous Cube mini I have ever seen (I own 4), and I have commissioned him to sculpt and cast, some other creatures that have long been neglected and were in dire need of a good miniature. Check out the Phaerimm he sculpted and cast for me here (scroll to the bottom of the page to view the 3 pics of the Phaerimm):
How big exactly is that Burrower Bug?
If you follow the link to my painter's website, Middle Pillar Path Painting, you can see that although it is on a 4"x4" base (gargantuan) that the figure isn't THAT big, but is still intimidating. Short answer, the miniature appears to be about 1/2 the size that it appears to be on the cover of Champion's Belt, in comparison to an average humanoid. Pages 3 and 4 have the Burrower Bug painted and on it's base for you to see:
Middle Pillar Path Painting Age of Worms gallery.
Hope that helps!

I plan on using a ring wraith for Kyuss, as well.
Finding a good Avolakia stand-in was a nightmare, but I think the Star Wars Dice Ibegon figure works great. It stands on its own and fills a 10x10 nicely. It comes in a two pack with Trinto Duaba, but you can usually find Dice alone on ebay for pretty cheap.
