Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

Hi everyone! I run a small website called the Archives of Nethys, and I have a question about style feats.

I've been away for a while (honeymoon, yay!) and am working on a few updates now that I'm back. I noticed a strange trend with some style feats, mostly called out in the PFS Additional Resources, and I'm wondering if this is just a PFS thing or if this is coming on board as a new rule.

In "Blood of the Moon", it was clarified that "Wolf Trip is not a style feat."

In "Dirty Tactics Toolbox", it's said that the Kitsune Tricks and Kitsune's Vengeance feats are not style feats.

Now, all of these feats are labeled as Style feats in the book. In the past, style feats have almost always come in three's. One base feat, and two more that require the first as a prereq.

All of the above feats still require the base "style" feat as a prereq... but aren't style feats themselves?

Using the Rules forum since I'm trying to figure out if this is a bigger change that's coming to the rules (IE: Style feats are only ever the first feat, not necessarily the ones that come after it... for some reason) or if this is just a PFS thing.

Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

So all of the style feats before (crane, snake, monkey, etc.) only the first feat is a style feat and the others are just combat feats that can only be used in that style. I'm pretty sure the PFS guy, John?, was asked about this and commented that it was an error and that only the base should be a style like the norm for styles.

Chess Pwn is correct: This isn't a change. Check out Ultimate Combat, where they came out (even the first printing), and you'll see that the first feat is the only one that ever has the Style tag (except when errors happen).

Good to know, thanks for the quick answers guys! Admittedly I hadn't looked in past books, I was in Dirty Tactics Toolbox at the time and all three feats there were labeled Style feats.

So in this case the corrections in PFS additional resource are actual errata, not PFS-specific rulings. I'll update my other feat tags to make sure they're correct, thanks again!

Technically, they are PFS-specific rulings. However, they happen to be PFS rulings that are, from a rules standpoint, "correct", so to speak, such that were there to be FAQ or errata, I'm sure the PFS rulings would be incorporated.

But do those feats still count as "style" feats for purposes of abilities that let you choose bonus "style feats" (such as the Master of Many Styles monk and the Unarmed Fighter) Or are those bonus "style" feat choices limited to only those with the word "style" in the name?

They are not style feats, but they are "feats in those styles' feat paths" as specified by Master of Many Styles.
