Damn! Damn! DAMN!!!!! My Dad died on 10-21-2006 and he had no will, not living will, no power of attourney, plus a lot of debt. However, that is not the worst part! The worst part is that he died in Mobile, AL which is NINE FREAKING HOURS AWAY!!! Since it is out of state and so far away, I have to either mail off for the death certificate or drive there. If I driver there to get it, I waste over $200 and at least a day of vacation. If I mail off for the death certificate, who knows when I will get it! I need that damn thing so I can attept to get his truck in my name. ~SIGHS, then snarls~ DAMN!!!

P.S. - I still miss him.

Liberty's Edge

That sucks.
Sorry about your loss.

No, this started Wayyyyyyy before now. Dagon is just sitting back laughing and enjoying the show!

Thanks, Heathansson. This would not be so bad if I were not in debt up to my eyeballs and work was not a few men short right now. Holiday season does not help either. Plus there are some other complications too. ~sighs~ Ok. I mail the request off tomorrow and hope for a speedy delivery.

Yeah. We've been living on the edge so long, where the winds of limbo blow, that we don't even know what this war is about.

This started, Heathansson, because you are Chaotic Hapless and I am Lawful Indecisive. Combine those two traits together and you have a Law versus Chaos war brewing. So far we are trying to make the Blood War look like a minior squable.

Ha Ha. I have the same alignment as Elric of Melnibone, and you have the same alignment as most of Woody Allen's characters.

And I always thought Elric was more Chaotic Emo.

I mean, Elric! Elric, baby! Cheer up, you're the emperor for crying out loud. Take a cruise, get some sun. You're starting to depress me!

You'd be depressed too if you had a sword that did d100 CON drain every time it hit. You accidentally bump your friend with your sword, and he dies!

(Yes, I have a copy of the d20 Dragon Lords Of Melnibone book...yes, Elric's sword actually does d100 CON damage every hit. The stupid thing is I've never read a single Moorcock book. I just thought Dragon Lords Of Melnibone was a cool title, and thought it would be about dragons. Talk about an impulse buy.)

For someone who's never read an Elric book, you just got lucky and summed up what happens in most of them, and why Elric is so emo...

Ok there's something that has been ticking me off a little: the ridiculously slow connection speed to Paizo. There's some great stuff here but ... I downloaded a download copy of Dragon 337 and it took over an hour to download going at 5 KB/s. I've got a DSL connection and from practically any other site I'm downloading at 300 to 500 KB/s. Even the Paizo boards take over a minute to load where response from practically any other website is pretty much instantaneous. Again not complaining about the material but isn't there some way to speed up the uploading/downloading/posting/browsing around here? Anyone else having speed problems

It's all about the bandwidth, yo. The fastest server in the world can't do smack if the bandwidth isn't enough. ("The fat lady through the turnstile" syndrome - you get a bottleneck with so much data going to & fro.)

Vic has already stated (in another thread) that bandwidth is hopefully being upgraded beginning of next year, which will alleviate the issues (*crosses fingers*). Also, the Online Supplement for Dungeon #139 was uploaded recently, which will suck down the bandwidth faster than a pack of teenagers at a pizza party.

I do all my posting in the mornings, EST. There's less traffic on the site, so it's not bad. If I try to get on the messageboards late in the afternoon on my work computer (which is admittedly slow), it can take 15 minutes or more for the page to load. Usually I click on a page, and then work on something else for a while, and come back when the page loads.

Argh! Must Vent!

G*# D!!n this game can be so frustrating sometimes. My endlessly annoying 6th level PCs just took down my BBEG Young Red Dragon in 1 round. It was cheesebuild city - I mean I knew the players had some major cheese builds but this was insane. 179 HPs and it can't live for two rounds. Its just crazy. Admittedly I had a pretty crazy cheesebuild Dragon too...in fact I think they would have been dying right, left, and centre if it could have lasted into its third round (second lingering Breath would have started taking PCs down). I'm not even exactly sure what I want. I mean I want the players to be able to get all the cool feats and neat races etc. but somehow, along the way, combats went from averaging 4 rounds or so with a BBEG to being nearly completely decided in 2 at most. Either the monster wipes the floor with you or you wipe the floor with the monster.

Sigh. I guess I should not complain to much as my players had fun and I'm hardly blameless. My first 'adventure' was some huge Dungeon and 30 Sessions in of course my players are power gaming. 90% of the time they kill monsters. Still its not even the powergaming that bothers me so much - its that the players and the monsters are becoming eggshells with sledgehammers.

Always annoying, that. Probably teaching you to suck eggs, but work out what your PCs tactics are, and deliberately counter them. Slightly unfair, but if they are that tough they need to know that not every encounter will be easy. Restricted access (a bridge with guards, flight, up a cliff) to the target makes things tricky as not all of them are mobile, especially the fighter types. And BBEG with good ranged attacks are probably a must (though the dragon would have had that).

In addition, as a combat prolonger, there is nothing like a meatshield screen around the BBEG. In our last encounter, I had two meatshields: four mohrgs, and a defence-spec'ed cleric, before they got to the lich, all in the same encounter. And slightly related - there is always attrition: if they like to sling about the rough stuff, run them up against some weedy mooks so then can waste their best spells and powers, and THEN bring in the BBEG, plus meatshield(s). And you can up the CRs if you wish.

My guys are power-gamers, so I need to counter them. It can be a little bit of an arms race, but I have found that just chucking a monster at them doesn't always work anymore. And it can be fun: they nearly always survive what I throw at them, and I'm not very restrained. Fun to think up the challenges, and a warm glow of pride when the PCs work well together to defeat them.

WHAT

THE

HELL?!

The manual states that Practiced Spellcaster is a feat that can be taken in Neverwinter Nights 2, so I says to myself, "Great, I'll make an eldritch knight by staggering fighter and wizard levels. That leaves me with a cleric's BAB and, with Practiced Spellcaster, I'd only be one level behind in my spellcasting for many effects!"

Now, I'm also making this character pursue two-weapon fighting, which makes the feat selection crucial and delecate, with only one or two slots open to maneuver with. It's quite possibly more complicated than it needs to be, but hey, I'm enjoying the challenge.

So I get to 6th level, my pre-appointed spot to take Practiced Spellcaster, and, what do you know? It's not in my options! I look and look over all the feats I'm eligible for for about 15 minutes, and it just isn't there! As stated in the Complete Divine, it's only supposed to require 4 ranks in Spellcraft, which I had at 1st freaking level. Now I'm 6th, and the feat isn't there. Unable to do anything at the moment, I took a substitute, but now I'm really pissed, since it will take until 12th level to get another slot that isn't needed for my two-weapon fighting path, and I don't know if this feat will be there or not!

I traveled back over the abysmal official messageboards and braved the forums, searching for some information, and Lo! I found a thread tangentially related to this topic. So, I registered and looked forward to posting and asking what was the deal, but after getting myself all official and logged in, I CAN'T EVEN FIGURE OUT HOW TO FREAKING POST ON THE DAMNED THING. I HATE BIOWARE'S FORUMS! ARGHH!!!!!

I also hates the bioware forums. I feel your pain.

That being said, I have an uneducated guess. Maybe you can't take it until you would receive the maximum benefit (i.e., you can't take it until you have 4 levels in a non-spellcasting class). So, once you hit your 4th fighter level, maybe then you can take it.

That's the only thing that I can think of that makes remotely any sense, as well. In which case, here's hoping for 12th level. If it doesn't pan out then, I'll have to wait to 18th and hope I can figure out what's going on. Grrr.

Just a thought (I don't have NWN2 yet, or I'd rip apart some of the 2da files and look for you) but was your sixth level a fighter level, or a wizard level? It's entirely possible that Practiced Spellcaster isn't in the feat list for fighters, and if that was the case, it wouldn't be selectable. However...my understanding was that eldritch knight was actually a selectable class in the game. Is this not the case? I swear I've seen screen shots that show eldritch knight as a selectable class.

Anyway...that might be your problem. Sorry I can't be of more help.

My 6th character level was my 3rd fighter level, as I'm alternating between the two to keep my base attack bonus up. While it is true Practiced Spellcaster is not a fighter bonus feat, I wasn't getting one of them that level, anyway. I was getting general feats intrinsic for reaching 6th level.

Eldritch Knight is, indeed, a prestige class that was included in this incarnation of the game. That's what I'm going for at 9th level, but I really want Practiced Spellcaster to keep my caster level as close as possible to my character level.

I realize that, but assuming that NWN2 uses the same basic systems as NWN1 for how feats are defined, each class has a list of feats from which it is allowed to pick, and it is entirely possible that practiced spellcaster is only allowed to be picked by caster classes. I'm not saying it makes any sense, I'm just saying that that is the way that the game was made for NWN1, and NWN2 runs on the same basic engine. I'd suggest trying to get it on a caster level, and see if it's not available then.

It's a pity you aren't in my game. It's all robbing temples and ignoring plot points. All the Macguffins and dark lords are in the background being dealt with by more... er...upstanding heroes, while my PCs are hustling for their next bit of coin. Here's a summary of last game:

Me: A great octopoid monster erupts from the ground while the mad priest rants about the coming of the great lord from beyond. People are running everywhere screaming as buildings collapse. You even see Captain Argo's airship lurching into the air, obviously deciding this town is done for. What do you do?

The PCs: Er... lets jump in that flying pirate ship and get the *&%# out of dodge! Plus that captain dude thought we were cool when Raveness beat him in that drinking contest last night. Maybe we can join the crew?

It's fun, but sometimes I feel like I'm in a Knights of the Dinner Table strip. Not because of the hack and slash, but because of the shady morals of the PCs.

That's why you allers need a player like me.

"Paugh! Enough of this talk! Boris Bloodaxe charges the orcs hewing left and right. Orc scum, I will show you red slaughter!"

I don't mind taking down the Dark Lord, half as much as the fact that if I then tried to take over his kingdom, the GM would have kittens.

Or more likely, say, "Okay, your character becomes the new Dark Lord. Roll up a new character for the next quest to find the Macguffins of Plotpoint." :P

You know that is absolutely hillarious. A DM in our town got in the Temple of Elemental Evil II or whatever its called. Anywhoo, he ran us through few low level adventures to establish us as "heroes". Now we finally get into the game and our group is contacted and asked to essentially help save the world from the spreading evil. We played about three game sessions before our party imploded. Keep in mind I am playing a Tiefling Warlock, I am the one in the group that is supposed to have that touch of darkness. Well our group just fell apart. There were complaints that we werent getting paid enough, my argument being how much do you charge to save the world? So our group of " Heroes" split up cause I was the only party member playing a good alignment (CG). I thought the purpose of playing D&D was to live out the role of the hero or anti hero. I guess unless there are interesting things to kill and an absence of plot, its just not worth playing.

You'd think they would smarten up a bit and realize that the silence treatment is only a punishment to them. Yeah, they must be counting typed words also for the men. Wow, all the pain of a nagging wife with none of the payoff......That sucks. I don't even try to understand them, I just try to look mean and act slightly rude to drive away the stupid ones. My wife was surprised when she found out who I really am because I hid it well behind a wall of contempt and crudeness.

Is this woman your boss? If not, start with the caveman talk...."Uhhh!?!" Then make up a slightly off-color "issue" you are having(nothing too much or HR will get involved) and ask her opinion on it. Something slightly chauvanistic like "yeah, so what should I do? My wife's friend came over and, long story short, she's pregnant.....What do I do?".

She will leave you alone because she will think you are a scum-bag......it isn't always bad that someone thinks that of you;)
Just make sure you tell your wife of any wierd plans like that so the "concerned co-worker" doesn't call your wife to tell her what a fine person you are...
