Hey all,

Just looked at the 3.5 conversion of Tomb of Horrors on the WOTC website. Now, I'm not complaining that they are updating this module and giving it away for free, but wouldn't that have been a good adventure in Dungeon? It sure would have boosted sales of that one issue.

Just curious ...

It probably would have been a good Dungeon adventure, but it would have also taken up over half of the magazine. As it is, I think that WotC updating old adventures and putting them up on their website for free is an excelent move. I hope they do more!

Oh yes, more converted modules, I am sure most people would love that!

Most traditional modules would be too long to appear in Dungeon, but you'll probably see a homage to various modules, significantly shorter, of course, every now and then.

I missed ToH back in the 1e days, and after hearing years of hoopla over it, I was very keen on reading a copy of the 3.5 upgrade. It just wasn't for me; I thought it was actually a quite boring TPK waiting to happen. I like me some logical design, plot, and interesting NPC interaaction.

The maps scheduled for map-a-week at the end of the month (11/29) are from the next revised adventure.... Sooooo ... sometime around the end of Nov I would say ... I don't have the adventure from production yet so I'm not sure of the exact date...

Awesome. I really hope they do this for more of the old clasic adventures.

ASEO out

Oh, don't worry about that! As long as you don't do it more than two or three times a year, the boosted sales and raves from the fans will more than make up for the few complaints you get about devoting half the issue to a converted classic.

I am going to print out the module and peruse it, chuckling evilly, during breaks in my game. I know one player in my group will probably need new underpants, he he he he

I agree, Maure Castle and the Isle of Dread are awesome!

i love the adventure. i have ever since the first edition. i ran it, killed three pcs. then 2nd ed came out with the return to the tomb of horrors. ran that, killed another 4 pcs, just with the extra stuff. sure, it can be a TPK, but what the hell. this is an adventure where the DM gets to be mean for a change. so, i'll run the 3.5 version and be really mean to my players. why? because most of the time i'm not as mean as i should be as a dm. this adventure is one of the best, a classic. so what if it doesn't have any standard elements from your cookie cutter dungeon adventures? it's a special event dungeon that tests the players on thier thinking, not on fighting. besides, Gary wrote it so you know it has to be good.
No NPC interaction? so what? TPK dungeon? sure, why not? every player should go through an adventure once in thier lives that puts the fear of god into them. this is the one. you don't want to run it or put your players through hell? good, don't. this is the adventure where the big dawgs pony up to the table and play the game, and only the strong and mentally savvy survive. so roll on, and may all your hits be crits!
