I would have to be an Elven Fighter/Cleric, as I have had extensive melee training and can pick up almost any weapon and use it effectively and like having a higher connection. I would likely go with a medium armor like Chainmail. Bastard sword and buckler, Twin Sais as backup (always loved the heft of twin sais, not to mention how adaptable they are to most situations). Oh yeah, always wear a helmet. Heal, Restore, Remove Disease, Protection from Evil, its all good. Elven because who doesn't want to live as long as possible.

I don't have any idea how I missed this awesome thread.
I'd be a Dwarven Evoker in Full Plate Armor, Arcane Spell Failure be damned.
Why?
Dwarf: No speed penalty in Full Plate! How cool is that?
Evoker: I used to blow things up for a living and since I rather liked it I'd rather like to blow things up in a D&D world as well.
Full Plate: I'll never fear being caught flat-footed at the back of the party again! Also, see entry "Dwarf".

Funny thing, friends of mine are actually running these games. You don't choose a new race, but the DM made a 12 sided room challenge that through decisions you make gives you your class.
But I should answer the question posed: I'd be a gnome bard. Why? Because I'd be able to act silly for a living.

Koga: The Ninja Trick |

Considering everything, The Koga would be a chaotic good drow bard. Why a bard? Because of the way he acts, and is always classfied as a "poser", and being a chaotic good drow is going to obviously attract that accussastion. Exsept he wouldn't wield no damn schmitars, what is this? Arabian Nights?! Real men use rapiers!
Also he wouldn't be your typical bard, he'd be your woodsy replacement bard as expressed in Unearthed Arcana, losing the ability to lore, inspire greatness/confidence/heroics in exchange for resist nature's lore, animal companion, and wild empathy.
That's assuming we're talking decent level of power here, if we're talking just a crappy npc character here, The Koga will probably be a black wizard. Hyboria Age has them. The Koga DOES practice black-magick and the effects are not that far off from the drawbacks presented in this class..

Bill Lumberg |
I am torn between choosing a first level commoner and an epic-level archmage.
I would want to be a commoner because I would not want to live long in a world without hot showers, deoderant and toothpaste.
If I were an archmage I could possibly get back to the real world... were I would again become a first level commoner.
(what a depressing thought)

Joex The Pale |

Hmmmm.... So many choices, lemme see. The thought of mastering Magic with all it's attendant potential for deceit, destruction and sneaking into female dorms is massively appealing. (C'MON people!! Fly, Invisibility, Charm Person? Be honest now!) Of course, I would most likely multi-class that with rogue. For many of the same reasons. So, I'd most likely be a multi-class Sorcerer/Rogue, intelligent and charming, (I'm so damn modest it hurts) with spells that would assist me in living a nice comfortable life with as few nasty critters attacking me as possible. And Human, or course. Gotta stay with whatcha know!

Peruhain of Brithondy |

I would want to be a commoner because I would not want to live long in a world without hot showers, deoderant and toothpaste.
All highly overrated. A few weeks of fieldwork in a remote part of rural China made me realize that medieval technology isn't as bad as its cracked up to be. (Of course it took a while to get used to worrying about personal hygiene so as not to offend the 2nd level aristocrats around me when I got back).
What I'd like to be: a handsome, youthful, half-elven bard who wanders the country, collecting songs, exploring, and charming the peasant lasses. I suppose I'd be devoted to whatever saint or god governs roads. I'd carry a rapier (if I could afford it) or a quarterstaff, but would regularly say my prayers to said saint or god in hopes of not having to use it.
What I'd probably be: a slightly overweight, middle-aged wizard with a penchant for lecturing and pontificating, knowledge (history) +30, diplomacy -4.
My son and I have had this conversation at least twenty times.

Kyr |

I think I would like to be pretty close to the PC my avatar was named for:
Elven Bard - long lived, able to travel, decent with sword, bows, spells, magic - even healing magic.
Although, if I could create a homebrewed tailored race - I would create something along the lines of an "Heir to Wind and Sea" a sort of genasi with both air and water elements in his background. Waterbreathing, swim speed, feather fall, etc. elven life span.
The perfect class would be a bard, warlock, sorceror combo.

Bloody Root |

I would arrive as a 1st level mongrelfolk commoner with 4 ranks in perform (human beat-box) and skill focus (perform).
Soon after arrival I would realize my meta game knowledge of the DnD world is highly sought after by adventuring groups.
After years of instructing adventurous types I would probably end up as a commoner 3/rogue 1/wizard 1.

![]() |

In Forgotten Realms, I would play a human cleric of Kelemvor, for these reasons.
1. Who wants to live for centuries?
2. I want to be certain of where I end up when I die.
3. Not many things say "Heaven is on my side" like the granted power of death touch.
4. Adventurers love clerics. Commoners love clerics. Not many classes have such fan diversity.
5. Enforcing justice in death (and through death) gives a warm sense of purpose.

Kyr |

Elven Bard
Its kind of my professional role now, to inspire and enhance the fighters (well I call them sales men) and wizards (the managers), I gater information, even do a little healing sometimes.
I would probably multiclass (if I survived long enough).
I would focus on the bow.
I study martial arts but would rather not rely on my ability to successfully punch or kick armored men try to hack me to bits with razored steel.

Koga: The Ninja Trick |

The Koga wonders if his alingment would still be chaotic afterall these spellcasters have presented themself, forcing him to learn "anti-magick field" and take the feat "permanency" (And The Koga hates meta-magick feats) simply to "nerf the munchkins" and bring order to an otherwise chaotic world of sorcerey..

simon dumais |

I woul surely be a dwarf brewer/favored soul/warmage/mystic theurge. So i could blow things up, heal my dwarven companions and finish the day drinking beer and eating mushrooms. I could complain about anything and still be a typical dwarf like all the others. Favored soul of moradin and warmage so i can be a lazy spellcaster who never has to pray or memorize spells.

Sharoth |

~grins~ Well, I would have to say Elan Psion (Gelestalt Telepath / Telekentic). The mind is the most powerful weapon, you know. Plus, having a long live is always very nice.
If events occur the way I would think they would, Human Commoner (and soon to be slave to someone). Or soon to be dead and then reanimated as a zombie. ~grins~
By the way, farewell2kings, What is PTSD?

Doc_Outlands |

PTSD - Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, aka "combat fatigue," "shellshock," etc.
As for me, Half-Elf Rogue/Sorcerer/Ranger(Bow). My experience in the SCA says there's no effing WAY I'm gonna make it as an armored fighter! I am, however, occasionally good with people (copier salesman) with *some* combat-training (Marine Corps & general archery), so I'm not totally helpless.

Tequila Sunrise |

Human Wizard without a doubt!
Human because: I want to learn quick. I would almost go Gray Elf, but I don't want to be weak of body (I'm too much that way in real life). I also wouldn't be any other race with +2 Int because they are all slow learners (+LA) so far as I know.
Wizard because: I want IMMORTALITY! I might get bored eventually after I've collected a library's worth of spellbooks and a museum's worth of magic items and as a result start helping folks out of the goodness of my heart or start sacrificing babies in order to achieve ascension, but more likely I would just fall in love with someone, spoil her rotten and live out eternity with her in my floating tower.

Carnivore |

Fighter, human, heavy type.
Martial arts, wrestling, football, military, SCA heavy combat, bouncer = fighter.
Feats sunk into weapon focus (longsword) and improved shield bash from fighting with them SCA duke types.
If I lived to around 6th-7th level, retire in a medium sized town and open an inn. Assist local militias in area defense and swear fealty to the local lord/baron. 99% of the time telling tales and selling drinks.
It'd be nice to have the inn by a river too.

Laithoron |

As a quick peek in my photo gallery might reveal, my race would certainly be "High Elf":
http://forums.worldsunknown.com/index.php?topic=72.0
Going further than that however, in terms of Tolkien's works, the nearest comparison I can draw would be to say that I'm 1/2 Vanyar and 1/2 Noldor.
As for class progression, there's a short answer and a long answer. ;-)
SHORT ANSWER: Multi-class Ranger/Divine Prestige Bard
LONG ANSWER:
Several months back, I spent quite a long while (weeks really) plotting out how I would have turned out had I been born into my own Middle Earth-like campaign setting. The result was that I would actually follow the following gestalt advancement upto 20th level:
Gestalt Class: 1-5 Wilderness Rogue; 6+ Prestige Divine Bard
Standard Class: 1-6,8,12 Shaman (see Oriental Adventures); 7,9-11,13-20 Ranger
After 20th, Gestalt advancement would end and my "alter ego's" continued advancement would be in a single prestige class that expands divine spellcasting and bardic music with truename magic. (This was prior to Tome of Magic coming out so I used the Words of Creation from the Book of Exhalted Deeds as a starting point.) His focus at that point would lay in using epic spellcasting to carve out his own other worldly kingdom in much the same way that Lothlorien was formed...

I would so be a dark elf. They're my favorite race. I know this is going to make me sound really bad, but I'd have to a priestess of Vhaeraun. I don't know how many people are going to recognize him, but he's a drow god from the Forgotten Realms who opposes Lloth (his mother) and wants the drow to return to the surface. He's also a god of theives and tricksters, so I maybe I'd multiclass as a rogue. (I'm not really a bad person, I promise. . . just my favorite deity happens to be evil. . . I suppose I could get away with being CN though.) ^_^

Gwenfloor |
Depends on the Campaign Setting
Greyhawk: I would be a Grey Elf Expert (Alchemist/Herbalist(/High Handcrafter, because I want to be a pharmacist when I graduate college. The High Handcrafter Prestige Class is from The Shackled City Adventure Path.
Forgotten Realms: Sun Elf Wizard/Master Alchemist(from Magic of Faerun)
DragonLance: Tinker Gnome Master(PC Class version of Expert)
Eberron: Human Magewright of House Cannith
Dark Sun: Human Expert sage living in Urik
Ravenloft: Male Human Expert/Mad Scientist (Prestige Class from online Ravenloft document)

The Jade |

I would definitely be a human frost mage or a snow-elf of some kind. I'd love to not be affected by cold; you could take naps in the snow and walk through arctic wastelands without any discomfort! Amazing!
But when passersby ask your character if he's in private school you might think that they asked him about keeping his privates cool and then he'd have to throw snow balls at them in protest. All so unsavory.
Seriously though... I know where you're coming from. I once had an NPC who was immune to fire and he slept in a bed that was kept magically and permanently ablaze. Aside from fending off touch attacks while he slumbered it was all quite useless but off the scale on the neatometer.

That NPC didn't happen to accompanied by a levitating box of king-sized french-fries and a talking milkshake did they? ;-)

Gericko |

I'd be a cleric of a god of merchants. Then as a side, I'd be an expert merchant who owned a magic item only store. Buying and selling items to the rest of ya will make me rich!!!
Rich enough to buy that "rez" insurance policy so that each time someone breaks in and kills me for my money and items I'll be raised. ;)
Sure I'd adventure, but I'd be rich enough when I started it to hire another priest with wands of Cure Serious to be my own personal healer. I REALLY don't wanna die.
Oh, has there ever been a good lich? ::kidding::
....I'm such a wimp!

![]() |

I'd be a human commoner, the guy that the other villagers call crazy old Christoph. I'd spend the rest of my days unsucessfully trying to reinvent electricity, and fill the children's heads with wonderous tales of hot showers, television, and the ability to procure a good meal in five minutes, with very little work. "We were all kings," I would say. "With access to powers and abilities that would make an ambitious, hark-working archmage jealous."
I would cry alot.
That seems about right... However, for argument's sake, I'd want to be a spellcaster - when leaving hot showers and CDs behind, I most certainly would want magical power in return, and lots of it. Make me a Wizard - I'm a natural bookworm. Add a few levels of Cleric, most probably of Boccob - being wrenched into a new reality would make even me a believer. Then add Mystic Theurge - I prize flexibility and wide-ranging knowledge - before topping off with Loremaster levels, as I am an annoying know-it-all and a natural pontificator. I'd have a tenured position at Greyhawk's College of Magic, with a spacious and comfy office/lab next to Kieran Jazlucian's near the top of the pyramid. And I'd still reminisce fondly about the days of Thai takeout, swimming at the rec center and writing on the PhD thesis - come to think of it, my future plans correspond roughly to this, if we drop all the magical power. How sad...

Crimson Avenger |
If I gotta choose...
halfling rogue of the OL/FT/DD variety. I'm insatiably curious about how things work, and love to take stuff....apart (think kender with a tinker habit)
for neat appeal...a Dark Sun Thri-kreen psi-warrior/monk
for pur power....the advanced adventurer from the egology of..
the coppers of my giving in the number of two

Stebehil |

What I would be:
Human expert/warrior with the following skills: Profession: Carpenter, Profession: Engineer/Architect, Knowlegde: History, Knowledge: Local History, Knowledge: Trivia, Heal (with one skill rank). Warrior, as I learned fencing, martial arts, shooting a bow, and a little bit of real sword fighting, not to mention LARP-fighting. Perhaps I would be a dwarf, as I can be very grumpy at times, and much more silent than my girlfriend likes. I would be a 6ft.6in. tall dwarf, but who cares ? :-) A little bit gnomish blood may have been mixed into it, as I´m the king of bad jokes at times.
What I would like to be:
Perhaps a human Archmage, as I´m absolutely fascinated with the possibilities of magic (does anyone here know the Ars Magica RPG ? I´m a HUGE fan.) Definitely living in a City, as I´m basically lazy and like to be able to shop in the vicinity. No lonely tower in a remote mountain range for me...
Under 3.x, I would perhaps be a dwarven Wizard, as I like dwarves. (My group says that I´m play them well...)

Ah, so the legend of Biggius Macimus has spread to all corners of the realm!

Valegrim |

Well, I am not a heritic and my faith is unshakeable, so as the D&D world does not have Christianity; I couldn't be a Paladin or Cleric as would be my desire.
Assuming we get to pick something upon which are personality is based which has no real world crossover; I would be a trollborn human (1st ed viking book), with major celestial bloodline with class of Wild Monk variant class and becoming a Master of Shapes as prestige class.
If we ourselves just got popped over; I would be ranger/warrior/monk; with a lot of monk levels and a bunch of modern soldier skills that dont translate and hopefully end up in a teaching job at some monestary :)or become a Partiarch of a large farm.

Brehon |

Human Bard. But not with any of that singing garbage. Perform (oratory) and Perform (comedy) all the way. I already know way too much about stuff that nobody else cares about (like a lot of gamers, I suspect) much like bardic lore. And that magic thing can't be all that hard to figure out. After all, even elves can use magic, so how complicated can it be?
