Hi,
My Pc's are in a bit of a tight spot, well 3 of the 4 are anyway. They got to the Passage of the Face and found all the clues that something bad could happen but still went on. They even tripped the trap and waited to see what would happen. To make things short:
The cleric has the ring of feather falling from the hive room. She is tied to the sorcerer and the barbarian (5 foot slack between them) and to the rogue who has 20 feet of slack and is already on the chain. The trio just got pushed out of the hallways and are about to fall down. The rogue is only ten feet off the ground so he wont get pulled off. But the trio think that the ring will save them all.
Will the ring save three of them? Or will it save the wearer? Or will all three fall due to the weight?
The DMG, PHB and DMG2 don't have an answer either way. I know they can try and grab the chain but I don't think they will. The spell sayes it can effect up to X people per level. So if the ring was made at a third level spell or higher would it save them all? Their are no weight restrictions that I can find. I could work something out, but I wanted to feel around for some ideas first.
Thanks

Well, I don't have my DMG or PHB in front of me, but from what I recall of the spell, then there is no weight limit. I think that the two characters who are tied with five feet of slack to the wearer of the ring should wind up safe and sound, and that you could pretty justifiably reduce the falling damage for the rogue by ten or twenty feet for being attached to a feather-falling character. The essence of the situation is that your characters were well-prepared for this challenge, and you should probably reward them for that.

From the SRD:
"Feather Fall...The spell affects one or more Medium or smaller creatures (including gear and carried objects up to each creature’s maximum load)..."
If the two tethered outweigh the cleric's maximum load (most likely they do) then I think they would all fall at the normal rate.

Well, that knowledge about the weight limit trumps my earlier thoughts. Gotta go with Vyvyan on this one. They're all in for a fall.

As the ring is most likely overloaded (great info, thanks folks), I'd relate that the ring's magic seems taxed and though it seems to reduce the rate of fall, everyone plummets in a heap of arms and legs. I'd treat one of the d6's damage subdual damage (cumulative to the d6 subdual dmg if you use that alternate falling damage rule) and the rest real. The rogue effectively takes only subdual damage.
