Pushed the big shiny Submit button, and now all my worries are over and it's just a small matter of waiting...
I know we can't really discuss our submissions as such. Still, I find myself curious as to what form of objects will be most popular. Will there be a glut of capes? A crate of candles? Apparatuses of every description? Only the judges know for sure...
Feel free to chime in (oh yeah, chimes...) once you've submitted too.

Probably a lot power-gaming type items. I like stuff with flavor (mmmmm...blood) and interesting origins. Funny items might also get a favorable mention too. Who knows.
I figure that since combat is something almost every player is assured to encounter, people will be enticed by battle-ready items moreso than simple utility items which are only usable to circumvent complex dungeon obstacles. Because, really, when someone is browsing the Wondrous Item aisle at Wal-Mart, the thing going through their mind is "I could seriously take out Baphomet with this stuff..."
So I really think other people should submit combat-related items.

I submitted a utility item geared towards offering magical alternatives to non-casters. I mean, casters already have so much utility in spells they can cast. They can even go the item creation path, if they so chose. I think that wondrous items are worth more in the hands of the non-magic user, giving them the option to really show what makes them stand apart from an NPC Schlep.
EDIT: Changed "Wizards" to "Casters" to better represent my statement.
I'm going to submit closer to the end. If I do it now, I'm almost guaranteed to think of a new idea, and then I'll spend the time until the announce the top 32 just second guessing myself.
Although I've got a pretty cool item that as far as I know, hasn't been seen so far in any WotC or Paizo product, OGL or not.*
*Of course, that may be because the concept sucks. But its original at least ;-)

You do realize that then you will have multiple alternatives. And then you face the choice of picking the "best" idea, which leads to second guessing ;>
I just reworked something that I thought up a while back when I thought about entering WotC's DnD Design Test.
Having regrown my nails after the Open Call, I'm now ready to start eating them again - my submission just went in.

I've just put mine in. I'm hoping that the desire for real world mythological monsters also reflects a desire for real life mythological items. I've had a vague idea for a cool item drawn from the real world knocking around in my head for some time now, and this contest has given me the proper incentive to finally write it up.
My biggest worry is that someone looks at the pricing and says, "This is all wrong, toss that entry," before they realize my toy is cold iron (+2,000 gp to add magic powers!).
Ach! It's more stress inducing than the GameMastery Open Call!

In the interest of fair disclosure, I needed to get my entry in before I leave the country for a while, so that certainly motivated me to submit earlier rather than later.
Still, on the whole, I think it was the right way to go. After all, if you're regularly going to spend 40 hours writing 200 words, you might be in for a slow, slow career as a Superstar.

Where's the rush?
I'm actually surprised that so many have already submitted, especially since the due date isn't for another 12 days. Sure, I've written the first draft, but I'm going to take the next ten days or so to let the idea marinate, just in case I come up with something better, or I realize I've made a mistake somewhere.

I'm thinking the same thing.
The only thing I'm worried about is "Judge fatigue". Maybe they're more excited in the beginning and by the time they get to the last day they're not finding our items so wondrous...
Or maybe it's the opposite. Maybe they get swamped with a million (I may be exaggerating a bit here) entries so they quickly read through them. Later when the flow slows down, they feel they can take more time with each entry...
OR MAYBE...

The judges are professional designers in their own right, I wouldn't be worried that they would be unfair in any way. Every entry will be given the same amount of time as another.
We'll I'm a professional programmer and I get tired/bored and sloppy with my work, so I'm allowing for that.
But our point is the same. You can try to mirco-analyze the contest as much as you want, but you should really
... relax and have fun. :)
