Silicon Sorcery Idea - JADE EMPIRE!

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Liberty's Edge

I just finished the game the other night and thought how awesome the various components of the game could be translated into DnD. This would be a great thing for Silicon Sorcery.

You could start small with all the NPCs and villains.

Then you could implement combat styles and magic.

Demons, monsters and spirits would be nice, too.

And then, of course, there's the gems, flying machines, floating rock and magic weapons.

So, how about it? That game has SO MUCH that would fit into DnD. :)

I think doing a whole series of articles on one computer game is a bad idea. Rather, one article on what you think is the idea that fits most into dragon is probably the best idea. Also, make sure it's accessible to all those who haven't played it, as too few silicon sorcery articles have been in the past.
Other than that, it's a good idea. I've always thought that non-d&d RPGs work well in dragon, as they fit well but have new ideas to offer. I recommend sending it in.

Btw, shouldn't this be in article requests?

I agree that it should get article treatment, but it would be difficult to keep it to one part because there is so much about the game that is great. Besides, they did a multipart treatment for the characters from War of the Spider Queen, and I'm sure that not everyone read that. So why not do the same for Jade Empire. You could do one article on the PCs. Another on the major NPCs (I'd love to see stats for Death's Hand and Sun Li). Then one on the matial arts styles. And so on, and so on.

Silicon Sorcery requires the cooperation of the game's publisher as well as Paizo/WotC, as a recent unpleasant experience of mine brought home.

I'm not sure how much cooperation BioWare would give on a Jade Empire article, or how much input Microsoft would have into the decision, or, for that matter, how MS would feel about an 'X-Box Exclusive' game being highlighted for pen & paper play.

Regardless, I'm fairly sure one installment the current, fairly lengthy Silicon Sorcery format could cover those aspects of the game not already addressed by, say, the Oriental Adventures book - and that the good folks at Paizo wouldn't want to do more than one piece in that format.

Well, if we can get just one article out of Paizo on this, that's better than none. I say, "Go for it!"

What he said!

Ok, just found this one...

As I mentioned earlier, it'd be great to see a Chinese based setting.

Now, if Bioware/Microsoft (whoever owns the rights) isn't all that cooperative, there still are elements that can be expanded upon which they can't exactly pitch a fit about. A lot of Jade Empire was inspired by The Water Margin. And since those books have been in print for centuries... it's public domain.
