adventure updates

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

Does anyone else think it would be cool if dungeon actually updated some of their 30 best adventures of all time to 3.x.
I would really like to see the tomb of horrors and white plume mountain

Those aren't Dungeon adventures. They are Wizard of the Coast adventures.

Personally, I wouldn't want to see them updated. Quality of adventure writing today is much better than it was back then. Or maybe I should say it's a different type of game today than back then. I like today's type of game better.

The classics DO convert very well. I find 1E stuff the most conversion friendly since the spirit of that version of the game is very much alive in v.3.5. I've been lobbying for an updated or revamped (whichever) version of Baba Yaga's Dancing Hut from Dragon #83. I hope we get to see it.

The system is different now than back then, obviously. But a good adventure is simply a good adventure, whichever version or system it uses. The game system simply makes it playable.

BTW, Dungeon and WoTC are pretty much a married couple. Everything WoTC produces finds its way into the pages of Dungeon. If WoTC was the driver, Dungeon would be the vehicle. Get it? Package deal.

I actually don't find all adventures convert well. npc treasure and items are a particularly frustrating thing to try to convert for many adventures. I also find adventures in different environments, such as the demi-plane in UK1 or the inside of Baba Yaga's hut particularly difficult to translate. But then again, I still haven't gotten the 3e manual of the planes, and that might make the conversion a little easier.

Well, each of our experiences are different. Mine have been fairly easy with conversions, but, granted, there's A LOT of old modules that need converting and some of the formats are a bit rough. Treasures? Throw 'em all out. 1E was notorious for providing too much treasure since it was how you earned XP.

Baba Yaga's hut is a daunting task, I'll give you that. One of the reasons I don't want to even try! Good luck with it. That's one I would rather let someone else do all the work on and enjoy the fruits of their labors ;)

It all depends on what the black hole says next time around. ;)

White Plume Mountian was OK but Tomb of Horrors never did it for me. It was too arbitrary. You pretty much had to be a wizard with lots of monster summoning spells to get through it.
