Church of Wee Jas

Shackled City Adventure Path

The regulators have recently returned to Cauldron after the "rescue" of Zenith Splintershield. The party's rogue Akondo is planning to approach the Cathedral of Wee Jas, as he is curious about their religion. This seems to be an excellent oppurtunity for some foreshadowing. What do you guys think the church's response would be at this point?

I'd think that either Vhalantru/Cagewrights would tell the church they must let him in, so that he would be part of the church and would not be able to go against them in Secrets of the Soul Pillars.

Of course, you could also just do it that he is not allowed to join Wee Jas. Either because he has worked too much for St. Cuthbert, or that they are not accepting new worshippers. That way he wouldn't be able to find out about the Cagewrights plans.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of perhaps having him meet Ike Iverson or Embril Aloustani to make the confrontation in Soul Pillars more personal. I don't think I want him joining their church at this point in the campaign.

why not?

Have the church keep secrets from the initiates. Makes sense for a god of knowledge. You know, the tower and innner sanctum are off limits to everyone but priests of a certain rank.

Play up the fact that Wee-Jas is the most powerfull religion in town. So they get lots of new blood. One adventurer more or less isn't going to make a difference. Make Ike a hardass, giving the PC a load of meanial tasks. You know, scrub the floor of the embalment chamber, dust the books in the libraries, clean out the chamber pots, that kind of thing.

Of course, those new initiates are completely below Embril's notice.

Thanks Chef, you're right. I will have him accepted by the church. The betrayal he feels later on will be sweet as pie.

In my campaign, I have foreshadowed that the Church of Wee Jas is behind SOMETHING. The PC's decided they need to get in there and snoop, but have not done so yet. Our Cleric originaly wanted to be of Wee Jas, but I dissauded him, as I did not want the conflict of PC vs his own church and or goddess. After the first adventure, they did go asking questions, and were met with closed doors such as "Sorry, we can only allow the faithfull inside" and stuff like that.

After his initial trip to the cathedral and speaking to some initiates, he now seems more interested in Nerull than Wee Jas. Although things change every session.
