How compatible is it with previous generations?
I have the M&M Wild Cards book (as a 'bible').
Can I run Black Shadow vs Green Lantern? Perigrin vs Hawkgril? Radical vs Superman? Yeoman vs Green Arrow? The Great and Powerful Turtle vs Steel? Kid Dinosaur vs Beast Boy? Fortunato vs Felix Faust?
I'm not the most experienced with the system, but I'm pretty sure all the tweaking is pretty minor, like converting 3.5 to PRPG

This is based on the new edition of MnM scheduled to come out soon. You can head over to mutantsandmasterminds.com and check out some of the blog posts on the differences. I haven't actually seen it yet, but I understand that there is some streamlining and a few adjustments but I bet its still mostly compatible, or enough so to play the confrontations that the poster mentioned above.
Personally I want it and the companion books to run periodic Brave and the Bold (the comic not the cartoon) style one=shots.
EDIT: The Quick start rules are up so we can all take a look.

Wow! I really think I'd like to have this. Maybe not to ever run a DC Heroes game (since I'm running two separate Pathfinder games) but as a DC Comics fan (and fanatic) I think I'd enjoy it immensely.

It's actually really compatible; most of the changes are cosmetic, and the end numbers (attack bonus, damage, saves, effect rank, ect) shake out to about the same with the following differences:
Skills: You only get 2 skill points per power point spent now instead of 4, but they also compacted the skill list down to about two-thirds its former size, so it's not as bad as it seems at first glance. Still, pp don't go as far in skills any more, so your 2e stat blocks will be a tad more skilled.
Impervious: Impervious now lets you ignore attacks of up to half its rank, not its full rank, so now it's more of a "I don't have to worry about mooks" power than a "no one can touch me nyah-nyah" power. If you make the same mental adjustment to your 2e stat blocks, it won't cause any problems.
Affliction Effects: DCA tossed out all the save-or-die style effects and rolled what they do into a power called "Affliction", which works similarly to damage saves. If you barely fail a save against the power, you suffer some minor effect (like being dazed or slowed or confused). If you fail your ave by a litt,e you suffer a moderate effect (like being blinded or immobilized or made into a slow zombie). And you only suffer the major effect ( like being pinned bodily or completely mind controlled) if you really flub a save, or get hit again and again and keep failing your saves by a little. I personally really, really like this change, but it will skew fights between 2e and 3e characters that rely on non-damaging powers unless you adopt the same rules for the 2e powers.

I picked up a copy at GenCon and talked with a friend of mine at the Green Ronin booth about it. During the design, they basically were given access to an entire portfolio of original stock art of the iconic heroes to draw from and use in the RPG hardcover. It is very, very cool. Big thumbs-up!
Just my two-cents,

I know what you mean. I never played the old DC Heroes RPG much, but I really enjoyed the Legion of Superheroes Sourcebook that I bought for it. Very encyclopedic!

I still have the Titans book for that somewhere. It was right in the Danny Chase/Troia error, before Joey went nuts.

Hmm... y'know I wonder...
Kingmaker every other Sunday...
High level Mwangi Expanse action every Monday...
Maybe I could attempt a third game... :P
I did like the idea/ideas I had floating around my head (using existing comic-book storylines, involving the players heroes in some of the bigger events in the DCU... up to and including "Blackest Night").
Hmmm...
