Kiss the Frog!

Two new PDFs for the Pathfinder RPG are available from Frog God Games!

In the early days of Third Edition D&D, a small company called Necromancer Games partnered with White Wolf Publishing to take the RPG world by storm. Necromancer's "Third Edition Rules, First Edition Feel" products set a high-water mark for d20 products, but as third edition slowed down, so did Necromancer Games. But now that the Pathfinder RPG has reinvigorated the scene, Bill Webb—half of the Necromancer Games team—has decided to come out of his slumber to start Frog God Games!

The Slumbering Tsar Saga began its journey years ago as a single mega-adventure for Necromancer Games. It then became a trilogy of adventures, and then a trilogy of mega-adventures, and now it comes to you as a monthly series of PDFs designed for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, each the size of a full adventure in its own right. After all 14 PDFs have been released, the entire work will be collected into a massive hardcover book containing over a half million words of pure First Edition-style adventure.

Something Stirs in the City of Evil. Over the distant northern hills, beyond The Camp, and past the Desolation stand the pitted walls of Tsar. A hundred armies have crushed themselves against this bulwark in futile attempts to breach the city. Even the combined might of the Heavens and Earth were unable to break through in the final battle of Tsar. So why was the city suddenly abandoned on the verge of victory, and what waits for those foolish enough to enter the Temple-City of Orcus?

In Slumbering Tsar: The Desolation, Part 1—The Edge of Oblivion, the sleeper awakes as Slumbering Tsar arrives. Here at the very edge of the Desolation is where it all begins. The Edge of Oblivion details the environs and inhabitants of The Camp, the wretched settlement situated on the edge of nowhere, and the events that lead adventurers deeper into the Desolation. Starting at 7th level, the Edge of Oblivion provides the doorstep taking players into the mind-shattering oblivion that awaits beyond.

The adventure continues in Slumbering Tsar: The Desolation, Part 2—The Ghosts of Victory. The Battle of Tsar was won, or so the history books say, but that victory came at a cost of thousands of heroes and stalwart defenders of good. The Ghosts of Victory provides the players' first steps into the wasteland that is the Desolation in the areas known as the Ashen Waste and the Chaos Rift where the Army of Light once encamped. Every victory comes at a price, and none know this better than the ghosts of those who paid it.

Written by Paizo-favorite author Greg Vaughan, this epic fantasy adventure is sure to please those looking to combine Pathfinder RPG rules with a First Edition feel!

Hey Elorebaen, I'm the Chuck referenced above. The basic problem with bookmarks is that they aren't incorporated into the code of the industry standard distillation process (PDF X1A) so when a PDF with bookmarks inserted in InDesign is incorporated into a PDF document, anyone not using the latest Adobe Acrobat reader (at least) will see a lot of the art as black blocks. That was a huge headache trying to figure out what was going on there and everyone in the industry is basically waiting for Adobe to fix it... and they probably don't care because it works with their readers. (Try reading a Paizo PDF with a non-Adobe PDF reader... ugh.)

I was hoping that a Table of Contents would help alleviate the pain of a lack of bookmarks.

Chuck, I really appreciate the additional explanation. I use Foxit Phantom for PDFs, and would love to never see Adobe Reader ever again *grins*

Let me be clear, you guys are a doing a great job both with customer service and the quality of your products. You have my loyalty.

A table of contents definitely helps, and, quite frankly, should be there regardless of whether there are bookmarks or not. But, if I am being completely honest, no bookmarks in a PDF devalues the PDF. It is not a big deal, but buying a product and then having to do work on it devalues it for me. Now, this does not mean I regret my decision to purchase nor will it change my decision to purchase for all of the reasons stated above (ie loyalty), but it does mean that the PDF is devalued for me. As I mentioned, I really do hope some way is found to include the bookmarks at some point in the future, and I just wanted to be clear and offer honest customer feedback.

All the best.

Softcover sold out as well; but more will be here next week. I was able to ship all orders made prior to Tuesday today. Sorry for the delay, we had no idea:)

Hardcovers are still being processed--I insisted in a beefier binding that is taking a bit longer than expected...never fear, you will get them the day after I do (well, they will ship then anyway). They have to first go to Texas (Matt to sign) and then to me, then to you.

I could have made Christmas, but I wanted this to be a book you would have in 30 years; so I made the binding, well, better.

They are debating on whether they will do another run of hardcovers or not. They wanted to do just a small run as collector books. HERE is a forum topic from the Necromancer Games forums asking for feedback on whether or not to do a second hardback print run.The overall response is defiantly yes, but it will ultimately be up to th FGG guys as to whether they do one or not. But my money is on yes, and soon.

Coolio. Thanks, 'killa!

EDIT: Oops. It's for S&W, not the Saga series.

Lol yeah i thought you meant the S&W HC. The Tsar hardcover wont be ready for quite a while, they are not even half way done with the single modules yet.

WHEW. That means I still a chance to order the HC. WIN!

Review posted for Swords & Wizardry: Complete Rulebook.

Tsar is still for sale as HC (delivery next summer). More HC S&W--I'll say probably--but its a huge outlay of cash (and risk); so I need to really think about it after I see how we sit after softcovers and modules.

Happy New Year (almost) !

December 28, 2010

Well, I ran out of softcover rulebooks, but am told more will ship to me Friday. Hardcovers should arrive around January 7, along with Strange Bedfellows and Ursined, Sealed and Delivered. Don't miss these releases; both are solid books--Bedfellows makes a great level 1-3 adventure as a starter for S&W, and Ursined is on eof the best short adventures I have read in many years. I love a situation-based, physical hazrad module that makes you have to think--great stuff. Thank all of you who have not received your books yet for your patience. I shipped another 75 or so this morning (all but 14 softcover orders have been shipped). Still have another 120 or so to ship, mostly the printer-delayed hardcover. Keep the faith (and I mean Splinters of! Tsar 6 is still being edited. Its huge, and I have to beat Greg a bit harder. Next up are Jungle Ruins, Nothland Saga Book 1, Hex Crawl Classics Book 1 and the Ultimate Book of Adventure Design. The UBAD (as we call it) is a 225 page+ resource book for gaming on the fly or pre-planning adventures. If you are old enough to remember the 1e DMG, you will remember with fondness the tables in the back that detailed how to write and populate a dungeon. This book takes it further, in that it provides literally thousands of items, locations and features for the DM to use during play. Want a fountain in a room? No problem...roll 1d100, and the fountain is described (is it magical, non-magical, secret passage underneath, what does it look like etc.). This brings to adventure design what the Mother of All Treasure Tables and Mother of All Encounter tables did for players in years past.

Don't forget to pick up those old Necromancer books fdrom my Ebay store. Mention this posting and get 40% off retail price at my store when you combine with a FGG order! The store address is http://stores.ebay.com/Necromancer-Archives. Its a great time to pick up those rare K series releases, or a hard to find copy of the Rob Kuntz M series, a Grimtooth's Traps or a ever rising in value City State or Necropolis. The M series and Grimtooths are not available in pdf for sale anywhere. To order and get the discount, you MUST email me directly at necromancergames@yahoo.com. If you order direct from Ebay, I cannot discount the items.

Thank you all again for the faith and loyalty.

He is supposed to be getting more of the soft covers either late this week or next week sometime. For the Hardcover there has not been a solid answer if there will be a second print run at all.

You know, I always thought encountering Tsathoggua would mean my death, or at least the death of my sanity...he is, after all, one of the Great Old Ones. But since encountering him, all he does is occasionally expose me to his sheer awesomeness, and while I'm stunned, he takes my money.

I want both of them.

One question about the Tome of Horrors Complete: Swords & Wizardry version. I was planning to purchase a hardcover of the S&W Monster Book when I returned from my deployment. Will the ToHC cover all of the monsters that are in that book?

Pretty sure it will just have all the monsters from ToH 1-3 collected in it and then made for PF or S&W. So I doubt it has much if any crossover with the S&W monster book.

2011? No way, I will bend time to go back 6 months....oops; and yes, its 2011, not 2010

The Exchange

Toast!

I nominate the Best Product of 2011. At the very least, most eagerly anticipated. :D

Frog God Games

The art will be in black and white since we're princiaplly reusing the art that already exists in the 3.5 TOHR, TOH2, and TOH3.

It is a complete compilation of those three volumes. Yes, there will be crossover with it and the TOH monsters that Paizo has published in their Bestiaries. For the most part these will look really similar, but we did not constrain ourselves to that if we thought we liked another PF interpretation better. So in some cases there may be minor differences between the TOH and Paizo versions--call it regional variations--but I think these are pretty few and far between.

I'm just now getting the conversion turnovers in from our crack staff of PF RPG monster converters and it's looking good, but it's going to take awhile to sift through and edit the 750+ monsters that comprise those three books not to mention getting them through layout.

You're going to see a lot of familiar names from among your favorite PF writers on these conversions, so you know you're getting quality on this.

I'm just excited that Bill has made the announcement so I can finally talk about what we've been working on for the last several months. Yeah!!!

I'm just trying to fathom how huge (thick) this tome is going to be. I assume that some creatures are not going to make the cut. The other question - will there be any new ones making an appearance?

Yeah I am guessing with the number of monsters and allowing for OGL etc we are talking about 800-850 pages or half again the size of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rule Book.

I'm guesstimating at least $199.

Whew! I hope it's not anything like that. We'll have to see of course, but I'd like to see it below $100. The realities of prinitng costs will, or course, be the key. :) We'll see what we can do at our end.

Not $199...probably $99--I have to evaluate costs on that first though.

How does the "Premium Full Subscription" to Slumbering Tsar work?

PDFs now, hardcover when the book is printed?

Will the option be available for at least another couple weeks?

Yep. Imagine it will be available for the near future, as it's been an option ever since FGG started up.

Tsar hardcover will be released next summer after all 14 chapters are done (talked with the printer this morning about it). It will be for sale through about May or so? Originally I was going to cut it off so I could plan printing, but we sold a lot more than i thought we would, so I was able to get a better printing contract--e.g. less time ahead (it is still quite expensive to print)since we are doing other books as well.

Honestly, FGG was started to do Tsar and only Tsar; but as you can see we decided to err....grow and expand:)
