I am getting the following error when I try to import these files into Hero Lab:

Thing 'iAaWKarWra' - Bootstrap thing 'wMaulaxe' does not exist.

Any ideas on what may be causing this error? Thanks.

I don't work for AAW but I do do Hero Lab work for Lone Wolf and from that error it looks like they have a prereq of requiring the Adventure's Armory package since that's where the wMaulaxe is from.

Still getting this one:
The data files could not be loaded due to errors. Hero Lab will now attempt to load them in recovery mode. Once loaded, you can access the editor as normal to correct any errors.

The following errors occurred:

Thing 'rAaWVemp' - Bootstrap thing 'abRPDivChT' does not exist on the Epilogue

Working on getting some updated files uploaded but in the meantime check out this info from our Hero Lab file developer:

"Technotrooper’s Error –
He needs to have the Adventure’s Armory package.

Sethvir’s Error –
The files that I just sent you should correct that error."

Hey folks. I am the Hero Lab dev for Rise of the Drow.

I just sent updated files to the folks at Adventure a Week.

Technotrooper: You need the Adventure's Armory package.

Sethvir: I updated the file and sent it to Jonathan for release. In general if you get an error like this in the future when loading a por file try reloading (ctrl+r) or recompiling (ctrl+c) it after you open it. If you cannot do this, make sure you have debugging enabled in the devleop menu.

If these files require other optional data packages to work properly (Adventurer's Armory), that dependency should be stated in the description prior to purchase. Are there any other data package requirements beside Adventurer's Armory? Thanks.

Wasn't even loading a .por file. Just running the .hl file into Herolab and after it loads in, trying to open Herolab and then it throws the exception.

Out of curiosity why did you choose to release the files this way instead of directly through Lone Wolf's store where things could have been integrated to not have a $100+ entry point just for the user to use the program?

Yep. It looks like this can get pretty pricey pretty quickly. There are some fairly obscure (and expensive when you add them all up) data sets that are required to make these files work. Wish they were more standalone.

Just pulled down the latest update from Drive Thru Rpg for the epilogue and the .hl file is now there.

Loaded it up and...

The following errors occurred:

So I went into the editor on the Vemp race and removed the bootstrap thing that is listed saved and reloaded the files and it now works. Whatever Bootstrap thing 'abRPDivChT is, still isn't present in the latest iteration of the file on drive thru.

Thanks.

Lone Wolf would not allow us to load our Rise of the Drow Hero Lab files onto their site. Apparently they went with a model which prohibits the amount of content they can have available for download due to limitations enforced by the Apple app store. This was apparently the only way they could have an iPad app and are now stuck with it. Thus, they are wary to have any 3PP material and are releasing primarily material by Paizo and other major publishers from here on out. If you disagree with this new business model I would recommend sharing your feedback on their forum or contacting the high-ups at Lone Wolf. I for one think this format greatly limits their ability to grow as a company.

We built the content for Rise of the Drow as a book first and foremost then hired a professional who converted it to work in Hero Lab. The pre-requisites were not something we consciously decided upon but rather the results of converting a book into a digital product in regards to statistics.

Hopefully this answers some of your questions.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Colen from Lone Wolf here - I'm the lead developer of Hero Lab. I wanted to expand on Jonathan's comment above and explain things in a bit more detail. :)

Because of the 5+ years of Paizo's Pathfinder content we include in the full Pathfinder data set these days, we are currently running into three challenges:

1) Even on a relatively recent tablet like my iPad 3, after you download and install a new Pathfinder update for Hero Lab, the first load of a character (which builds the full data set for you to use) takes over a minute. :( The CPU in the iPad can only work so fast, and there's so much data included that it just takes a big chunk of time to load. The second and subsequent time the app starts it's much faster, but that initial load time is still a big pain point for us, as it's people's first experience with our iPad app.

The more content we add to the Pathfinder data files, the longer this load process is going to take for all our users. Because of this, we're currently being more restrictive than we'd like to be about which content is sold through our store (and thus included in our full Pathfinder data set).

2) In addition to taking too long, loading all that content uses up a lot of memory. This means that some of our users with the iPad 2 / old iPad mini are having problems loading Hero Lab - in the wrong circumstances, Hero Lab tries to use too much memory to load the data files and crashes. :(

Again, adding more content to Hero Lab only makes this problem worse for those users, so we're currently being as careful as we can about it.

3) Finally, the data files we update every month have got really big - almost 200mb of data files and stock NPCs. We obviously want these to be as small as possible, as we'd prefer that our customers didn't have to download over 200mb of data every time we updated Pathfinder. 200mb is already more than we want to be distributing, and again we're trying to stop the size from expanding too much.

Now, these are all issues that can be solved, and we have plans that will help resolve most of them, but it's going to take us some time to do so. We have a tiny team working on Hero Lab, and we're currently focusing all our energy on getting the full Pathfinder version of Hero Lab for iPad (which will let you build characters as well as play them) out the door.

Once that's out and in good shape, we'll be able to spend more time on problems like this. We are definitely aware that it's not working as well as it could, and we're hoping to be able to fix that in the future.

Regarding the other issue, of many other packages being required to use the Adventure A Week content (and other data sets that various people are selling / making available) - this problem is also on our radar and is also one we are hoping to fix in a future release.

Thanks, and hope this clarifies Hero Lab related things. :)

Colen

Thanks a lot Colen for weighing in on this subject. I've received quite a few emails and complaints about this so finding a solution in the near future would be very much appreciated by both customers and publishers alike.

Please don't take my messages as negative in regards to Hero Lab as a program, we use it often and love the functionality of the software. We appreciate all your hard work as the main man behind the programming scene and we look forward to seeing it evolve.

-Jonathan

So has the compatibility issues been resolved?
