The Grand Stair stretches behind the scenes of the multiverse,

the Doors upon its unfathomably vast span leading the way to gossamer worlds of limitless variety and infinite possibility. With all those options, they can't all be nice.

Brokeworld is a dump of cosmic proportions, haunted by tragic Unmade and infested with ruinous gremlins. Choked with the pervasive influence of the Umbra, Brokeworld is a place that reminds us that in time all things will break down, and all designs, no matter how perfect, will crumble into chaos. If you go, beware; and if you make it out alive, be sure to wipe your feet.

Gossamer Worlds: Brokeworld presents one of the infinite possibilities within Lords of Gossamer and Shadow by Jason Durall, powered by Erick Wujcik's Diceless Roleplaying.

5/5

Infinite worlds lie on the Grand Stairs - here, we get Brokeworld in a 6-page pdf, of which 1 page is the front cover, 1 page the editorial, leaving 4 pages - so what is Brokeworld all about?

In in-character prose, this little supplement introduces us to the Brokeworld, a cosmic dumping ground for other gossamer worlds - plagued by size/shapechanging gremlins that propagate via fecal matter, roamed by the Unmade, broken practitioners of Eidolon, this world not only is notoriously hard to leave, its domain table also makes sure that poor saps stranded there have their good stuff slowly drained and means of taking control etc. all are present - a truly destitute, apocalyptic vista indeed!

Conclusion:

Editing and formatting are top-notch, I didn't notice any significant glitches. Layout adheres to Rite Publishing's purple-bordered two-column standard for LoGaS and the pdf even comes with bookmarks, in spite of its short length.

Written by Matt Banach, who has proven his mettle for the weird before in RiP's superb Faces of the Tarnished Souk-series (which remains my go-to benchmark for NPC-supplements - and there's a KS currently running!), Brokeworld is a captivating read of a supplemented by a superb top-notch artwork by Trung Ta Ha. Mechanically interesting, with ample narrative potential, it makes for a great place to integrate into a LoGaS-campaign and should also act as a neat inspiration for planar adventures of other settings. Final verdict? 5 stars + seal of approval.

Endzeitgeist out.

Gossamer Worlds: Brokeworld

5/5

Author: Matt Banach; Cover Artist: Trung Ta Ha; Supplement for the Lords of Gossamer & Shadow (Jason Durall) from Rite Publishing; System: Erick Wujcik’s Diceless Role-Playing

Price: $1.49

Brokeworld is where everything we have ever discarded goes and where the universe’s constant decay is manifested inexorably. This product describes a plane in the Lords of Gossamer & Shadow game setting, using the Diceless rpg system.

Digital Content/Appearance: 6 pages – 1 cover page, 1 titles page (credits, logos), 4 pages of content with one graphic (a reprint of the cover) and one chart that fits this supplement into the Lords of Gossamer and Shadow setting.

The layout is very pleasant. The 5 content pages are mostly two-column justified with a purple (mauve? lavender?) top-down fade border, visually easy on the eyes.

The graphic, used for the cover and again as a half-page inside, is imaginative and evocative.

The content is absolutely great. The concept is an excellent one and the descriptions are very illustrative and inspirational. Banach uses a nice narrative flow that reminds me of Planscape while being something I could still follow (whereas Planescape descended into jargon and phonetic idiolect). He references a couple of creatures (or creature types), a bit about the nature of the portals and a bit of descriptive geography, wrapping up with a little adventure seeding. This product may be specific to the Diceless system and the Gossamer setting but I really feel that the content is adaptable to other systems and settings. I very much look forward to knocking together my own random encounter tables and using Brokeworld for a side quest in my Pathfinder campaign.

There was only one typo that I could find. I also found the big primary portal onto the plane to be a little difficult to visualize; I felt that it seemed small and low for a portal that drew detritus from everywhere in all the universes and slowly filled this place up.

I highly recommend this purchase. It is very affordable and easy to bundle with a couple of other digital downloads a GM might make and it is a nice, mid-length read. If your party goes to three or more random planes, Brokeworld should be one of them. Any environment that is reminiscent of urban decay or rot or discarded uselessness needs this short supplement to help flesh out its details.

We lover our diceless tabletop game :)

Woo hoo! I am very pleased and excited to once more be getting Endzeitgeist reviews. Thank you again for your attention and kind words - I have always found your feedback exceedingly valuable.

There are more Gossamer Worlds on the way. With an infinite multiverse to choose from, it's gonna take a while to work through them all...
