After saying goodbye to Florence, I spend the evening with the rest of the group at the Wyvern. The next day, I would like to purchase the components for a Headband of Wisdom and a Belt of Physical Might, +2 each. Then head out with Mantooth to the fort so that I can set up shop and begin crafting. I will also find a place there to set up a small shrine to Sarenrae.
I will also help with the cleanup when not crafting, but would like to get a full 8 hours of crafting in.
Matthais Teskerwill
Item Creation:
I will try to increase the speed by 50% for the first two items, this incurs a +5 DC penalty.
Spellcraft checks are DC18 which is Base 5+CL8+5(1/2 time penalty) This would be DC13 without the penalty.
Day 2: Headband of Inspired Wisdom +2 - Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Day 4: Belt of Giant Strength +2 - Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
I do not know how much time we have, but if anyone else has 2k and wants to buy stuff for Belts/Headbands, or any other Wondrous Item, please let me know and I can work on it. I am out of money at the present.
__________
@DMHW - the money from Nexic's lair and the thieves' guild is added and then I deducted 1000 sp, 3700 gp, and 40 pp for the 4k for these items.

Thordak stops in his tracks and looks back. Wah-? You want corn!? Well...That's a little hard to come by in these parts, it's not a nat'ral plant, see... But... Hrm... Oi think Oi might be able to do somethin' for ye. Oi'll have te go back to town and get some...corn things. But it's gettin' late, Oi think Oi'll get somethin' to eat an' stay here fer th' night if that's alright, then Oi'll head out in the mornin'. Now, about that somethin' to eat... He says, turning back to the woods and heading off in search of food.
Bleedin' daft Hippogriff! Wants corn! Oi think Oi'll pick up some corn in Brindol, maybe some seeds, an' see if Oi can teach Lulu how te plant 'em...

"Well, if you don't have corn. That's ok. You don't need to get it now. I just thought you may have still had some. You are still welcome to stay nearby tonight if you want."

Thordak sneaks through the woods with loaded crossbow, eventually finding a hare, nibbling on some herbs.
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
He sneaks up on it and takes a shot with his crossbow.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Critical:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Crit Damage:2d10 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2) + 6 = 14
Konwledge, Nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 to identify the herbs
He collects the hare and some of the herbs it was eating, then returns to the clearing with the Hippogriff. He starts a small fire and skins the hare while the fire heats up. Then, using the same bolt, he cooks the hare rotisserie style with the herbs. (if he has determined them to be good)
Mm, mmh! he says, licking his chops as the hare crisps and sizzles over the small fire. You want some o' this, too, Lulu? he says, offering her half of the hare.
After eating, he gets a drink from the pool and washes his hands and beard of grease. Then he finds a nice soft bit of ground and rolls out his bedroll. He lays his pack and weapons near his head, but is too tired by now to even care about removing his breastplate. Soon he is snoring loudly....
DM Harpwizard
"You want some o' this, too, Lulu?"
The great hippogriff answers you quickly by coming up to you and grabbing the half a hare and devouring it in a few gulps. A moment later, she eagerly awaits any more that you have to offer. However, when she finds that there is none left to be had, she stands guard over you watching to see that you are protected.
The following morning you awake to find her curled up nearby, sleeping lightly. As you rustle, she opens an eye to see what the noise is, but closes it again after she realizes that it is you.

Master Yab, my good man . . . I think today is the day I'm departing your fine establishment! Now, how much do I owe you??
Brooch of Shielding
Oil of Remove Paralysis
Oil of Hold Portal
Potion of Spider Climb
Potion of fly
Potion of Feather Fall
Potion of Expeditious Retreat
plus paying back the HW of course

"Master Yab, my good man . . . I think today is the day I'm departing your fine establishment! Now, how much do I owe you?"
Trabalard shakes Bofus' hand and replies. "Well my good halfling! I am actually sorry to see you leave. I thought you were going to be a load of trouble when I first saw you, but I have been pleasantly surprised. For your room, board and meals, your total comes to 15 gold pieces. I do hope you will consider coming back here again?! Best of luck in all of your travels!"

As we shake hands, I attempt to nimbly remove his ring--the same one I tried to do when we first met.
Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20 <--ppfffwwwew--that's technically a success. But does he notice???
Assuming he doesn't notice, I'll dole out my coins to him . . .
OK, fifteen crowns . . . twelve, thirteen--HEY!! How'd THIS get in here?!?! You may wnat this back my friend. *wink*
You'd better believe I'll be back again. Will be my pleasure to cause trouble here!!

Thordak nods to the Hippogriff and crawls out of his bedroll to go relieve himself in the woods. He then returns and sits for a while silently.
Prepared Spells for today: speak with animals, gravity bow, Badger's Ferocity
After a while, he stands and rolls up his bedroll, repacking his pack and replacing his weapons. Hrmhrm! He clears his throat. If the Hippogriff is still asleep, he will give it a small tap on the shoulder, then cast speak with animals.
Well, Oi think Oi'll make moiself on moi way... Oi dunno when i'll be back--It might be a bit--but Oi'll come visit you soon, alright? An' Oi'll try to bring ye some corn next time... Until then, fare well, Lulu!
He leans in and gives the Hippogriff a hug around the neck, then shoulders his pack and begins to leave for town, unless Lulu has more to say.
Plans are to go to the market and pick up a couple of things. Then to the Harp Wizard...

Bofus and Mantooth spend the next few days cleaning out Nextic’s old lair and turning it into a base of operations.
1. Please tell me if any of the traps are rearmed or any additional traps added.
2. Are any food items or supplies restocked in the storage room? An inventory would be helpful.
3. Other preparations?
Meanwhile, Matthais is able to use the small office as a quiet place for his work crafting items.

During the days of cleaning, Mantooth takes several visits to the stock room where he will have moved any useful items into. He keeps his eyes out for any food that may be around that is viable to keep.

On traps: I need to review the traps that were in place before, and see if we want them re-armed. I dno't have time right now, but I'm hoping ot review the thread over the long weekend.
On inventory: see above. Also, see below.
Other preparations: what I'm most interested in are the following:
-setting traps, but not so much damaging traps as those that cause delay and incapacitation (pits, needles w/sleeping poison, etc.) or warning (noise, etc)
-preventing the place from being found in the first place. What kinds of trails are there, and can the trailheads (at least) be hidden effectively?
-along these same lines, does there appear to be any reasonable way to actually move supplies into this HQ in a clandestine manner? Any passages to little-used trails, roundabout routes to Brindol (that's still the largest settlement nearby, right?), stuff like that?

@Bofus, Mantooth, Tirion, and Thordak
While cleaning outside in the courtyard, Thordak arrives at the gate with a large horse-like creature with a hawk’s wings, talons, and hooked beak. It appears he has returned with the hippogriff he tried to befriend last week!
@Bofus
• There was a path for a carriage that came off of the dawn way on the north side of the lair (South side of the Dawn Way). There is work that could be done to hide the entrance to that path.There was also a footpath on the other (south) side of the broken bridge that spanned the stream. The path led back to outer walls of Brindol.
• The mosty deadly trap was the pillar in the opening rook with the pressure plates that released arrows out of the pillar. Do you want to reactivate that trap or simply keep it disarmed?
@Mantooth
There was a list of items in that storage room in Nextic's Lair. I have not found it yet.

OK, that's definitely a #1 priority. I'll take 20 on a Disable Device check to hide that puppy as well as I can (total: 37)
There was also a footpath on the other (south) side of the broken bridge that spanned the stream. The path led back to outer walls of Brindol.
OK, I think I'll ignore that for now.

Hmm, let's leave that disabled; perhaps the group can confer on whether we want such a deadly trap?

Greetin's folks! You all remember Lulu, right? Hates slavers, loves corn? We feed her an' Oi broke her outta some chains? So, Oi went out te check on her an'... well... she followed me back. I grin at Thordak's request. The belt I can help you with. So, you want to be more agile, they gonna call you the Nimble Dwarf?
As far as the breastplate goes, I am afraid that I cannot help you as I have not learned how to create magical armor or weapons. You might want to talk to the Harpwizard or your armorer about that.
But hey guys, you should see what I did learn to do.

Fireday, Rova 21, 4710
Two weeks in the month of Rova pass very quickly. The weather is mixed with some rain, but for the most part you experience warm days and cooler nights as the season slowly leaves summer and works its way into autumn.
Thordak spends every day learning to fly, mounted on this magnificent hippogriff, Lulu. Little by little he learns how to control her direction and maneuver her through various turns and climbs.
Mantooth, Tirion, and Bofus spend their time enjoying themselves, but also working arond the ruined keep getting it cleaned up and ready as a new home away from home.
One afternoon, while in Brindol, one of you run into Lars Ulverth.
”Greetings, gentlemen. I have a small but hefty pouch of gold for you and your friends. This came from a woman named Laurastar Gavlan. I was not sure how to get a hold of you, but here you go anyway. She included this note with it."
Lars Ulverth hands over the following sealed envelope with a sack of coins. Upon opening the letter you read the following.
My dearest Mantooth, Matthais, Thordak, Bofus, Cebrë, and Florence,
I hope this letter finds you well. I write to you to thank you kindly for rescuing me from that terrible slaver, Nextic Karastone. You have been most kind and I personally wish to reward you for such services rendered. Enclosed with this note you will find a small sum of one thousand gold crowns. Although this sum is not what I hoped it would be, I do hope that you know that it comes with my eternal thanks and appreciation for all you have done for me. I wish you all the best and hope that this note finds you well. Should you ever find your way to Dennovar, please be sure to look up the Gavlan family. We are humbly at your service.
Sincerely yours,
Laurastar Corrina Gavlan
Upon finishing the letter, Ulverth comments, ”I believe that Lord Jarmaath would also like to see all of you at your earliest convenice. When you have some time, please make your way to Brindol Keep to see him. Fare well, gentlemen.”
Thordak son of Throtgar
Thordak helps Lulu set up a nest on the top of the keep and trains with her daily, slowly growing better at learning to ride as she learns to carry his Dwarfy weight. Towards the end of the second week, Thordak deems Lulu ready to go into town with him.
Alright, you ready te go into town again? Oi've got someone Oi'd like you te meet, an' his name is Professer Mantaray or somethin'... but folks just call him The Harpwizard. He's a nice fella, Oi swear! Now, remember wot Oi told ye about goin' into town, right? No bitin' folks, right? An' if we get stopped by guards, we gotta give 'em a little show, right? Now, Oi got this fer you...
He reaches into his pouch and pulls out a large silver necklace, which he drapes around Lulu's neck. Now, Oi'll tell the guards it lets me control ye, but like Oi said before, it's an ordinary necklace.
Ride: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Saddling up Lulu, he rides her to the city limits, then lands just outside and dismounts, leading her up to the guards on foot. Mornin' boys! Oi'm comin' to see Professor Maturation--wait, no, Matriculation--Bah, Oi'm comin' te see the Harpwizard! he smiles, hoping Lulu is behaving behind him as he says this.
DM Harpwizard
@Thordak
" Mornin' boys! Oi'm comin' to see Professor Maturation--wait, no, Matriculation--Bah, Oi'm comin' te see the Harpwizard!"
The expression on the guard's face is priceless. He watches you approach the gate and he appears flabbergasted!
"Holy Hippogriff!! Did you just come in riding that beast through the air?!!! I never knew those creatures were tame."

Since I was specifically going back to brindol on occasion to look for signs of Miss Galvan, I'll assume I bumped into Ulverth.
Ah, thanks Captain!! I'll make sure all my friends konw about this. Would you be so kind as to tell Lord Jarmaath that we got yoru message, and if I can get my friends gathered for tomorrow, we'll come by the keep forthwith!
I bring our loot back to HQ.
So, we've been talking about scrolls and stuff--I say, unless someone has a smaller purchase they were looking to make, we put all of htis in the group pot and get some neat scrolls! Maybe Haste or something??
Thordak son of Throtgar
Well...usually, they're not! But Lulu here, she's a good friend o' moine! With that, he proceeds past the guards to the tower of the Harpwizard, unless they have more to say. You boys have a good day, then!
Matthias, I also gave you a belt and deducted 2,000 gp. Should I assume that I have it now or? I guess I'll just wait for you...
DM Harpwizard
@Thordak
The guards wave you through but exclaim, "Well just make sure the creature doesn't get loose!"
You walk across Brindol with the magnificent Hippogriff at your side, drawing lots of attention from passerbys. Within several minutes you come upon the steps of Brindol Academy, where you know Deitrovicca Manturiel has his laboratory.
Do you leave Lulu outside or bring her inside with you?
Thordak son of Throtgar
DMHW: I forgot to list my spells for today, but I'll do that now:
Lvl 1: Animal Messenger, Speak with animals
Lvl 2: cure light wounds
Thordak takes out some bread crusts and waits for a pigeon to come to him, making sure Lulu doesn't eat it, then casts animal messenger. He ties a small note to its leg and waits outside the building as it flies up to the windows to peck at Professor Manturiel's office window.
Dear Harpwizard,
Outside with Lulu the Hippogriff (friendly).
Please come talk!
Sincerely,
Thordak, son of Throtgar

Oh, hello Professor! Oi'm lookin' te get moi armor here magically enhanced, an' Oi saw wot you did with Bo--Er...the halfin's armor, so Oi was thinkin' o' somethin' like that, if'n yer able! he says, tapping himself on his armored belly. Oi've also got a query 'bout Lulu here. he says, putting an arm on her feathered neck. May we come in? Oi was wonderin' if you could open a portal to a...like a trainin' camp so Oi could train Lulu how to protect herself, see, 'cause if she's gonna be followin' me around, it might get dangerous, so Oi was thinkin' o' that... Are either o' those ideas possible?
DM Harpwizard
@Thordak
"Are either o' those ideas possible?"
"Hmm?" The harpwizard considers as he strokes his beard pensively. "Let's go inside and see what we can do." The professor escorts Thordak and Lulu through the hallways of Brindol Academy until finally they reach his office. Once you arrive, the harpwizard gestures to a comfortable looking chair and offers, "Please have a seat. Can I put the kettle on and make a spot of tea for you and perhaps a bowl of water for your friend? So tell me, Thordak, what you are looking for me to do with this armor you speak of? You realize that I can't simply enchant just any suit of armor. It needs to be of the finest quality. You know, something made by a master. Is this armor of the quality that I have described? Does it have any magical enhancements on it already?"
After listening to your response, he also considers your request and then asks, "And please, tell me what is this training portal you are speaking of? For what purpose would you wish to go through a portal when there is so much room in this world?"
@Bofus
"Ah, thanks Captain!! I'll make sure all my friends konw about this. Would you be so kind as to tell Lord Jarmaath that we got yoru message, and if I can get my friends gathered for tomorrow, we'll come by the keep forthwith!"

Oh, yes, of course! This armor is of the finest quality! It's Dwarven-made! Thordak says, taking it off and showing the Professor the fine inlays and then turning it around to show the family stamp. Moi Grandfather gave it to me when he...went back to the earth--Tragic, you know, they said both his livers failed... Thordak drifts off in thought.
Oh, but yeah, here it is! An' as to magical enchantments, Oi've never noticed nothin'... but then again, Oi only dabble in magic an' it's pretty new te me to be honest!
After listening to your response, he also considers your request and then asks, "And please, tell me what is this training portal you are speaking of? For what purpose would you wish to go through a portal when there is so much room in this world?"
Oh, so Oi was thinkin' maybe a place where Oi could have some extra time an' maybe some tools te teach her how to get through battle. Oi was thinkin' like maybe some obstacle courses, an' some targets an' dummies an' things. Oi'd like te practice shootin' moi crossbow when Oi'm on her back, too, see... Oi dunno, maybe it's not realistic... Oi guess Oi was jes tryin' te not have to try an' hurry all the time, ye know? But Oi suppose Oi can train her in the real world as easy.
DM Harpwizard
@Thordaak
The white bearded professor begins to make a cup of tea for you as he listens to your tale.
" . . . Oi guess Oi was jes tryin' te not have to try an' hurry all the time, ye know?"
After bringing over and laying down a steaming hot cup of tea in front of you, the great wizard sits down and comments, "Thordak, my fine dwarf. I am aware of all of the great deeds you have done for this city. Your reputation has grown quickly in the short time that you have been here. If you are truly in a hurry and have need for a place to fly and train this hippogriff for battle, then I would life to be able to help you. There is a world that contains a floating island in a sea of clouds. The island has many cliffs and it may serve your purpose well. I know just the piece that will allow you to access that world. The island has many fruit trees and small animals for hunting and I think you and your hippogriff would be able to use it for a short while. In the meantime, I will see what I can do for your armor. So, if you are ready, I can prepare the gate for you and you can begin your practice right away? However, before you go, I should ask if you have some money to help with the cost of enchanting your armor?"
Thordak son of Throtgar
Oh, yes, that sounds wonderful, Master Harpwizard! Thordak says, clapping his hands together in delight. How's this fer a start fer moi armor? he says, clapping a pouch of gold down on the table. There's a thousand crowns for ye!
DM Harpwizard
@Thordak
"How's this fer a start fer moi armor?"
"Thank you very much, my fine Dwarf. Now let's see if I can get you into this world. Take care of yourself. Now when you pass through the arch, you will find yourself on the floating island of Lamurentia. It is a wonderful place and I think you will enjoy it. You will find plenty to eat in the trees and you will meet a native tribe of Yazarians. Please let them know that I sent you, and they should be very kind to you. They may also be able to help you with your combat training. I will open the gate again in what will appear to be about two weeks. I should have your armor by then. Are you all set to go? Now, let me remember that piece of music to open that gate."
The harpwizard sits down at this concert grand and begins to play a very haunting melody. Within moments a swirling green and blue mist forms in the archway against the wall of his office and while the wizard plays, he nods for you to enter.
As you and Lulu enter the misty arch, you suddenly pass through and find yourself in a rich green field under a beautiful blue sky. From the neighboring trees about a dozen long bearded winged creatures (it looks like a cross between a dwarf and a gargoyle) fly down from their branches with spears drawn. A very powerfully looking one lands in front of you and calls to you in a strange dialect of the dwarven tongue.
"Where in tarnation did you come from? Speak up wingless one!"

Oi'm Thordak, son of Throtgar, sent here by the professor they call The Harpwizard! Oi mean you lot no harm, Oi'm just here because Oi wanted te train moi friend Lulu, here. he says, patting Lulu on the shoulder.

"Harp who?" The creature says gruffly. "Do you mean old Syriendar? Hmm, you are a strange one, but at least you have a beard. So what happened to your wings, Thordak, son of Throtgar? It looks like your pal is going to have to give you a ride if you want to get anywhere!"
The rest of the creatures laugh at their leader's gruff humor.

Just so that I am doing something, during the week, I will work on stone crafting. Make some stuff for the hideout, say a series of statuettes for our fallen comrade as well as trophies of our victories. A little drake to show the victory over Trask and the drake. A halfling breaking a set of shackles for the slaver, and anything else that anyone can think of.
Craft(stonework): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 <-- Cerbre statue
Craft(stonework): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 <-- Drake/Trask statue
Craft(stonework): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 <-- Halfling/Slavers statue
So some are good and some ok.

Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 Doh!
O' course Oi've got a beard! No self-respectin' Dwarf-- no matter. Are you sure you haven't seen the Harpwizard? His real name is Professor Dietrovicca Manturiel? Tall fellow; long beard, pointy hat?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Really? Wow...
Anyways, no, Oi never had no wings, on accounta Dwarves don't have wings... But Oi've been learnin te ride Lulu here! That's wot brings me here, come to speak of it. Oi was just lookin' fer a nice place te practice ridin'. He says, looking around at the landscape and also for a possible escape route.
Wait... the Harpwizard never told me how Oi was goin' te get outta here again! Oi hope it's not another one o' those zappy puzzles...

"What do you mean you are just here to practice ridin? Grrrrr! I'm not sure I like this! I'm just not sure you belong here. I admit you have a nice looking beard, but without wings, I am not sure how you are going to get anywhere. How do you expect to feed yourself? You don't plan on bringing in others of your kind do you? That's just all we need, a bunch of bearded wingless lolly gaggers!"
You do not sense any evil, but a fierce pride and very protective of his people and his land.
