Anyone knows more than me on this, beyond the fact that the current X-Men Annual currently on sale at your FLGS/Comic Store has a bomb announcement in it saying Chris is back with the X-Men????
Which title(s)????

Yep, but it's not new. The editorial board has allowed Claremont to "pick up where he left off" after he left the series (and apparently stopped reading it, to boot).
So there's this new "alternate continuity" magazine, set well but vaguely in the past, more or less guaranteed to confuse casual fans who pick up an X-Men book every so often. And, truth to tell, I find the storytelling to be just the other side of awful.
It's the worst kind of indulgence, a blanket show of disrespect to the writers who've developed the characters and plotlines since Claremont passed the torch.

I find the story sucked, true. I couldn't care less if he skipped all the garbage we've seen since 1991 though. What I do like is some real X-Men faces in the line-up (Kurt and Kitty working together again is enough to let me give this a try... and to have Jean and Logan finally together is the cherry on top of the sundae, as I hate that mofo-emo-teen-'tude-Summers-moron...)
So, does that mean Logan is a sundae? :P

LOL! I haven't read it since he's stopped writing, for numerous unrelated reasons(money, time, interest), but does that mean we finally get to see what happened to Havoc and Polaris when they discovered the Brood ship? Or was that the seemingly unrelated storyline where Brood had mutant powers? :D

Claremont?
You might as well just go back and read the old comics. Every time he gets involved with the X-men he tells the same stories.
Phoenix/Jean Grey yawn
Brood yawn.
Great the first time he told the stories; by the third time I couldn't care less.

Will still take Claremont over the garbage we've got in the last 20 years. The only point of light in that abyss of darkness we've been dragged through for the last two decades was Astonishing X-Men (from #1 to the one where Kitty phases the giant bullet through Earth... then after that the comic took a dive with all that Ghost Box crap)

I didn't get in on X-men Forever becasue of Wolverine.
I was excited at the thought of seeing how Claremont was going to handle Logan not the character he's become. Then he goes and kills him in the first issue. X-factor Forever has been interesting, and I will get New Mutants forever (though I expect Illyana to die in issue one, since she's one of the main reasons I'd get the book, that and I hope to see a Dani/Rahne relationship like was hinted at in the old book.)
Personally, I like the idea of seeing how the 'old Masters' take their old plotlines. Busik/Perez Avengers Forever? Wolfman/Perez Titans Forever? Grant/Breyfogle Batman Forever? Being able to read a book or three w/o 8 other titles is nice now and again.

Exactly. Marvel/DC have to review their business model if they expect to survive on people buying 10+ titles a month. Less and less people have that kind of money nowadays, and the younger folks don't buy anything period.

All the X-Books need to follow the example of the single good decision that has been made about Spider-Man in the past few years. They scrapped the titles except for Amazing. Similarly, I think they should do the same with the X-Books...there are just too damn many of them, and it seems as if most writers assume you will want to read them all, as many of them are so tightly interconnected that it's like reading the odd pages of a novel if you skip out on one of the dozens of X-Books.

I agree that dropping Spidey to one title was a good idea, and I agree that the X-Books should do the same.
I would get back onboard the X-boat if they would do that.
Disclaimer: I have not jumped back unto the Spidey boat, but it had nothing to do with it going to one title... rather had something to do with the fact that the plot nauseated me, and because I had grown fond of the Ezekiel / new Tony Stark spidey suit / Peter Parker unmasking elements...

How many active X-titles are there these days, anyhow? Including the splinter teams like X-Force or X-Factor ?
Not counting the Forevers...
Uncanny X Men,
Astonishing X-men
X-men: Legacy
X Force
X Factor*
New Mutants
Wolverine: Origins
Wolverine: Weapon X
Dark Wolverine
Deadpool**
And I think Cable.

So for Second Coming, you need to be getting four or 5 books every month. This doesn't include recently cancelled titles like SWORD (Beast Lockheed, Agent Brand) or limited series like Hellbound (spins out of Second Coming, a team going to rescue my favourite blonde Russian mutant)

Bleh. That's horrid. They really should chop that list down to one or two titles. House of M was a brilliant idea that could have helped chop down the extreme amount of characters, but somebody made the brilliant decision to only use it to depower mutants that nobody had used since the early 80s instead of actually cutting the roster.

Worse, they've repowered the 'big ones' (Magneto, Quicksilver, Xavier...)
One of the concepts I like about New Mutants is that Dani's on the team as a 'former' mutant. No powers. Now if only the writers would remember she has been trained in hand to hand by Wolverine, was a deep cover SHIELD agent, and had other skills besides being a target...
The Roster would then have a specific function.
Sam - Combat leader, tactical and strategic situations.
Amara - Heavy combat, ettiquette, possibly mystic.
Bobby - the Face of the team, also he has a lot of political/business contacts through the public face of the Hellfire club. The fact that he is also a combatant helps, but I want to see him be the faceman.
Rahne - in desperate need of character rehab (thank you X-force! Just because a character has claws doesn't mean she is a psycho killer) She'd be a second line (defensive) combatant, and would be one of those who helps fledgling mutants who don't like their powers.
Xian - Councilor. She not only uses her possession powers to take out foes, but to teach others how to creatively use their powers. "Ok, we can extend your energy bolts so you can fly. I'm going to take control to show you how..."
Dani - Pilot, second in command. With her SHIELD contacts (assuming we get SHIELD back post Siege) She'd also be the one to serve as a diplomat from the mutants to the government entities. Also to whatever Asgard ends up as. I'd also want to have her start with the mystic stuff, both Cheyenne and Norse. She'd also serve as a foil to...
Illyana - Teleporter, mystic, wild card. The current Illyana has moved beyond 'oh no, my demon soul is going to corrupt me'. I'd write her as she's trying to find her soul. She'd be, if not comfortable with Limbo's magics, at least practical. I'd play up the fight to keep Limbo under control. The scene where she's summoning demons to fight Roberto in the danger room is just part of the practicality I'd see in her.
(in my New Mutants)
Sam: We've got to protect the McGuffin from the mob! Amy, I need a wall of fire, Dani, get the McGuffin! Illyana I-
Illyana: I could send them all to limbo and let the demons play with them, just a second.
Sam: No Illyana! Can you make a barrier or something?
Illyana: Oh yes, I forgot, innocents... One wall of force coming up.
Doug would be sidelined, joining the X-club. His new power as written would make him a natural programmer and geneticist.
My New Mutants would be travelling the world(s) helping solve problems with mutants and humans, finding new mutants (thus the title) and dealing with them either being accepted or taking them to Utopia. They'd also be tasked with fighting mystical threats, and maybe other worlds as well. I'd love to see them have to go back to whatever Asgard is becoming, because some Asgardians are showing the X gene, for example.
