do i think martials should be able to move and full attack? absolutly

do i think pummeling style should work for all kidns of weapons? absolutly not.

There is absolutely a issue with game balance in general.

things above level 12 shouldnt be "if you havent prepared for every possible detail, you get TPK'd, if you have, you 1-2 turn own everything"

This means damage both on enemies and on characters is VASTLY out of control, yes its cool to do lots of damage i know.

This is made worse with the simple fact that defenses scale HORRENDOUSLY in this game, and any of them that are remotely good soon get nerfed under the guise of "not fun"

Combine with martials lack of narrative power and casters ability to both emulate everything a martial could do as good or better then they could, along with being able to do things that dont just end fights, but circumvent entire encounters.

yes there is a big balance issue in this game.

now i love this game, but its true.

i think defenses need to scale with offenses.

i think offenses should be scaled back on nearly all fronts, people shouldnt be gibbing encounters usually and most encounters shouldnt be gibbing the parties.

martials need more narrative power in some fashion

casters need there exploitive toys taken away, but not removed from the game.

you want wish? only a few magical beings should possess it, like genies...players shouldnt get wish.

same for teleport, you want teleport? better find something that can do it for you and convince it.

resurrect? better find an angel or something.

This would make the gameworld far more compelling when these truly game breaking spells still exist, but you have to seek them out instead of recording them in your spellbook.

i know people dont like having there fun taken away, so no doubt people will have convinced themselves that none of this needs done.

Are there any good house rules against the problem Linear Warriors - Quadratic Wizards?

I really like this thread, but i do not think that the general balance of caster vs martial is that hard to fix.

i mean, making it perfect? impossible

but making it standable, very doable

I see casters as quite weak starting out in the game, id like to see that buffed slightly.

but they soon outstrip martials. this is also an issue.

early levels they do not have enough spell slots or spell choices to really maintain anything, and are very frail.

midrange casters dont really have this issue, im talking full casters.

martials however are sturdier with stronger physical stats for doing that damage thang.

high levels casters do things that either martials cannot replicate, or straight up break the game.

so here are my very rough ideas, many if not all have been repeated.

1) edit/remove all spells that literally break the game. allow otherworldly beings to have them tho, this creates a world where a demon/angel/dragon etc are truly feared as they ahve abilities mortals cannot achieve.

2)bring non spell abilities like fighter feats/talents/ki/etc up to par.

3)need some way for full casters to contribute when starting out other then the occasional spell every other battle without fear of running dry and being useless.

4) give martials the ability to accomplish some of those things that casters can.

if my group doesnt let me use the old crane style then ill simply scrap any attempt ever at making a

1-monk, ESPECIALLY a MoMS monk

2-any unarmed fighter ever

3-any one handed fighter ever

guess if we are not casting spells we are not allowed nice things :(

So almost anyone ive known or heard about who plays with friends at a actual tabletop...eventually starts hourseruling things.

Some may be large, some may be small. But everyone seems to do it.

I want to make a thread where people will post there houserules they use, and why, and there experience with them be it good or bad. at the moment we have little in the way of houserules because we have started our first campaign in pathfinder, after wich...we will compile our experiences nad houserule as we see fit.

About only thing that comes to mind is the way temp hp works with a barbarian, we didnt like the feat tax or sudden death syndrome, so now it acts s actual temp hp and goes first. We havent had much experience with it yet tho, we have one barbarian, and there has only be one isntance that it saved him. he merely went below 0 hp, isntead of dead.

most know what ragecycling is. my issue is while i want to do it, and i believe its intended to be done. i cant fathom a non game-y way to roleplay it.

why does the barbarian need to stop raging, then start again to re-use his rage powers? with it being a free action its entirely a formality in of itself.

its clunky, un-intuitive, and as ive seen it, impossible to roleplay.

and thats the catch, my group is big on not exactly reality, but understandability. it makes no sense, so its frowned upon.

ok, sorry for the wait.

first, im well aware pathfinder isnt balanced with gestalt in mind, but our playgroup has gotten very good at eyeing up things nad balancing accordingly. also the DM tends to gestalt the enemies as well. making it more realistic.

as for my AC breakdown, at level 6

10base
2 bastion stance
4 crane style
2 dex
4 wis
1 monk ac bonus
1 ring
1 amulet (gets replaced if i use barkskin)
1 robe

robe is deflection, amulet is natural, ring is armor

thats 26 AC, i can increase that by 2 with barkskin, and by 4 by using a piont of ki (so obviously not permanent) thats 32 AC at my highest, i could go a bit higher if i used total defense.

at 20 the 70 AC assumes unrealistically good gear, lets do the numbers

10 base
4 bastion stance
4 crane style
4 dex
4 wis
5 monk ac bonus
8 bracers
5 ring of protection
3 barkskin (+5 if i used a wand)
- 2 (huge size penalty for wild shape)
+6 (bonus natural ac from wild shape)
+1 dodge
+1 ironhide (im a dwarf)

+3 from headband of wisdom
+3 from the super unrealistically expensive belt of +6 STR, DEX, CON

+4 ki

im at 65 right now, i dont have the paper in front of me where i figured out 70. i apologize. this is of course not sustainable. sustainable would be

56 is sustainable if i dont count barkskin or ki.

and of course i could go higher still with cats grace.

i not not believe for a moment that letting a monk be something other then lawful makes it not itself anymore. but thats my thing, i grew up with kung fu movies, i watched a lot of documentaries about different martial artists and monks.

i can easily say theres plenty non lawful.

also inquisitor can get there wisdom to initiative. make a high wis/dex based dervish inquisitor and when the DM ask for initiative rolls slam your fist on the table and state "I GO FIRST"

i agree there is nothing challenging about 3x20=death, however it happens so rarely for us we dont mind it being there.

plus we may be more sadistic then your average group, we roleplay hard, and more then once we have had to fight eachother to the deat because of alignment differences.

not too mention almost every campaign 3 or 4 of them try to figure a way to build a skin bridge O.o..........
