Hi All,

Having recently switched to PF, I am currently enjoying the nuances of the Pathfinder World.

I thought it might be cool if we could build a strategy game (in the same flavour of Diplomacy/Risk) of the PF World where people act as the Rulers and create empires, diplomacy directing resources, armies and the like.

Would Paizo allow us (or better still!) to create the Rules/Map so that we can all build our very own Empire. (hmmm I thinking I have a megalomaniac streak!)

Also, thinking of such as PF groups/chapters as sort of the 'hero/ine' specialist single units so I could allow PC's to affect World events a la 'Butterfly effect'.

Am I alone in this view or does anyone else share my vision/insanity*

Is there anywhere we can see about the Overview of the World and relations of PF Nations?

Yours despotically,

Steve

Hi,

I have been following the conversation and excepting the snapples references ot has been interesting (I presume snapples are a drink of some kind?) and in answer to the previous question is that do I expect an honest answer about PF from these boards and the answer is "Yes".

I expect people to answer that. (Perhaps not the PF people) but they ignore the postings at their peril. So, it is in their interest for a successful new release of PF (when that happens!) People who cant constructive (please note the important word - Constructive) then they risk the situation with PF & 4E and WotC problem with a breakaway branch such as Paizo.

So, I would argue that this is the perfect place to cricitize and get your opinions across...

of course, your game are crap are a waste of space... but when people put the reason why it should interest the developers/publishers/etc.

Where else is there that is better than here?

And Lastly, yes I have been playing AD&D (2nd ed) until quite recently so I have been out of circulation for a while and it has been interesting. The last discussions I was involved in were such as "Is EGG and TSR being too restrictive of creative freedom by setting themselves up as the absolute authority, etc?"

In some ways everything changes and in other nothing...

Still fascinating, and pass me my walking stick youngsters...

Regards

Steve

Hi,

I don't know if it is possible - If I could find a way I would be hassling Paizo about it. But, does anyone know/or have a good idea about locating/searching the Paizo website for a particular type of adventure?

For instance, my ideal is an one on one, puzzle-based, role play heavy, urban adventures and it is hard to find them. Partially due to the great variety but also I am sure there are people who want to avoid this kind adventure and buy good old fashioned dungeon crawls, etc.

(My wife plays but she gets bored of just hack 'n' slash so I need to find those more interesting/different adventures)

But, there seems no structured labeling schema which make finding your favourite type of module easier. So, my question is twofold:

My first qn is to Paizo directly:

1. Is there anyway that Paizo can make adventure definitions a bit more structured so people can easily work out what kind of adventure is what they are looking at? (yes, I know they can be adjusted, etc...)

And:

2. Can anyone recommend any good role-play heavy, (usually) urban, adventures which allow good problem solving, etc. Such things like Rogue's challenge, Some early freeport stuff, Raven's bluff kind of stuff you can push my nose to?

Lastly, yes I know some the PF stuff have been perfect - That is why I subscribe but any others, more obscure companies/modules writers, etc out there?

Thanks to all those who reply in advance!

Kind regards
Steve

Hi,

Just thought I will add as my first post was regarding going 4E or PF. We can safely say that are designed to allow a person to role-play in a fantasy medieval world with magic.

The thing we want to know is how do the systems compare with matching the flavour of old type AD&D? What does PF do well and 4E does not. Let's discuss these things as I have tried both and I do think the new 4E do stray more into a World of Warcraft thingy than PF. My goal is to have a system that allows me to play D&D and as an oldster who has only just left AD&D 2nd Ed. I wanted a system that allowed me to continue with my Campaign but with the same flavour. Otherwise you would play something like Runequest!

So, would it not be best to discuss these points?! Also, as 40 years odd gamer we have gone through these kind of arguments before. They are vital discussions to ensure we get what we want. The game companies want to give us a product that we go out and buy all their publications. It is in their interest to give us what we want!!!

Let us tell them. I think this 'conflict' between PF and WoTC is great! Lots of good adventures that I can use from both sides, etc.

I personally think that after examining the 4E publishing sequence is that it seems you have o buy somewhat more than the customary 3 core books to 'get back' to what I would call core D&D which is a bit mercenary. So, I don't like that and PF seem to be more 'honest' but it is based of 3(.5)version of D&D so it was constrained(?)/supported(?) by a previous version of D&D.

Were PF faithful. Is it worth are meaningful questions to debate! So, what do you guys think?

What is NOT good is people bringing in terms such as NAZI's and Holocaust. This is a game and anyone trying to insult and cause pain and discomfort have no place here. I am an English chap married to a German so I think when people start trying to pile on guilt/accusations/whatever with a trowel it is bad news. All of you surely conclude this is not an appropriate discussion and those who meant to hurt people with such words should be a ashamed of themselves. The Holocaust was an event that is too big to be discussed in a games forum. If you want to discuss it somewhere else then go somewhere else...

Games, if I remember correctly, are meant to be havin' fun but hey, what do i know?

So let us examine the differences that 4E has given us... I like the extra races and some classes are OK but a bit samey... What I do see is that a lot of re-badging has been done such as certain spells and rituals can be compared. I do like the attempt to allow low level parties to have more abilities though...

stay safe and keep calm..

Steve

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your incredibly swift replies, all of you. You have simultaneously, reassured me that I have not wasted money in the purchase of v3.0 books, given me a resource which glancing through looks exactly what I wanted, and a plan to consolidate with the final edition of the PF rules. - sweet!

Thank you for the warning about the power levels which has caused the main problems in converting modules which eventually, has made me decide to upgrade now.

I have played since the early 80's and the hardest thing is to teach/show my player(s) on a new game engine. I didn't want to be in the unenviable position of having to switch systems as that would have caused chaos and would have got in the way of role-playing! And it has caused me to undergo the much put off, inevitable process of converting my campaign world...

I am thinking now of looking into Paizo's ready built campaign world in taking the strain off me. I will, though, miss the 'grittiness' of World of Greyhawk and 'weirdness' of Planescape though.

I look forwards to posting again and if anyone has anymore suggestions, hints and help I am not above taking your good advice.

Again, thanks.

Regards

Steve

Hi All,

Can I clarify that yes I have been locked (metaphysically at least) in the equivalent of a Nuclear bunker and that yes I have been playing AD&D ver2.0 until now. (I buy new adventures and create my own NPC's, etc.)

Anyway, to my question, it is no longer feasible for me to continue the way I have been going on. I purchased D&D v3.0 last week but have found that I should have got (it seems) v3.5. Do I have to bite the bullet and purchase the v3.5 rulebooks or is there somewhere out there a cheaper upgrade path? As I dont think D&D v4 is the right way to go.

Can I get away just downloading/buying the Pathfinder Corebook?

Can anyone advise me the best way to go, please?

thanks in advance for your time and consideration

Steve
