A character is what a person makes it. If someone else makes it and hands it to them and says "play this" and they have never played that character. They won;t know the difference between cleave, power attack and vital strike... and that many powers do not stack. You say she's new but has played characters past 20 into the 25-30 mark... which becomes essentially "god" mode and instant destory everything. I'd just have her sit down with some of the bard guides and read through them so she gets an understanding and have her create a character. I've seen quite a few of these "I have no time, make me a character asap" posts over the past few days. Sure, I could jump into herolab and create a level 20 bard and paste it here but if anyone else is like me, half the fun is making characters. ![]()
Hey guys, I started tolling the idea of making a druid for an online campaign (roll20). I have never played a druid character in my 15 years of gaming, table top and MMOs). I just realized that druids have SO many choices available to them as what they can do. The only guide I found that I can read up on druids is the treantmonks three part guide. Are there any others that are as comprehensive so I can learn more about the different archtypes, spells, animal companions and what their role within a party is? We're level 1, 20 Point buy and 3000 gold starting. I'm a little more excited about this one as there is a point buy. ![]()
Not really. I went in as lawful neutral which the DM suggested I do as the party was (in his opinion) neutral. Doing some good and bad things but more good then bad. The group has a fighter, sorcerer, rogue and me (monk)... I shoulda known better than to give a good group posing on craigslist for more people. ![]()
Yeah, it set the tone for the whole game though. I never asked how he got the +5 weapon. When he said his first attack, he swung for like 34 or 35 and I mentioned "damn" at such a high number, then he said his damage... 58 non crit at level 3. I asked what he was using and he told me the sword is soo awesome that it always hits and always kills anything it touches. ![]()
I don't know :/ I should have known it would go quickly downhill when he picked a fight with the blacksmith and murdered his wife in front of him and demanded the deed to the shop and the rest of the group was like "yeah, this is ours now". I remained nice throughout the night as I was invited to their house to play their game. Good to know shocking can only be on the weapon once. I don't know if the DM doesn't know or does care. He let everyone make their characters on HeroLab and didn't help. ![]()
Played a new game tonight with a whole new group and DM... There was this level 3 fighter who had a +5 Large Bastard Sword with x5 shocking on it. He claimed it could do 3D8+22+5D6... The guy could literally kill everything in 1 hit. I thought you were not able to have multiple enchants of the same one on a weapon. I'm beginning to think my location is just horrible with these types of players. I tried Dming once but people were upset and quit when I refused to give them what they wanted and wanted to make them earn it. ![]()
Who hired you? Your sorcerer is dead and I doubt the necromancer will. Why would someone who was hired to kill murder someone travel with the party? Wouldn't the others treat you as a hostile threat and potentially eliminate you in your sleep? If your intention is to just kill him... I'd have told you two to settle it or leave the game. It's just creating more and more drama within the party that isnt needed. ![]()
Hey guys... I'm new to playing a spell caster and I made a sorcerer crossblooded and varisian tattoo... My DM told me to google it. I understand how it works with level 1 spells but what about cantrips? Bloodlines are: Orc and Draconic gold dragon (gold dragon because of Huma)!!!
Ray of Frost is 1D3. Do any of these change the spell damage or is Ray of Frost ALWAYS 1D3+0? My reading says that it would increase its power to a level 1 spell doing 1D3+1 and then with orc bloodline it would do 1D3+2. ![]()
Well I'm DMing today and had a question. My guys like lots of encounters and I'm having them use some pregenned characters. With the Brinestump Marsh being so close to sandpoint... Would it be bad to say have some teenagers from sandpoint exploring the marsh and maybe have the party find them? Then they could decide to attack them or sneak by the kids? ![]()
Okay, so I found a cool module they will like I think. I checked out the free RPG downloads here and I decided on the "We be Goblins" This will allow me to get my feet wet DMing and the other characters a chance to play something cool. Maybe they will forget about being extremely overpowered and focus on having fun! Has anyone tried this setting? ![]()

Witches are about to fly with the flight hex. It worked great when the DM had a flying creature that refused to land and kept swooping down picking on the lightly armored party members. I do agree that slumber is extremely overpowering. There are many ways to raise the DC to near impossible saves at low level. ![]()

Oh I don't either. My witch is a chaotic evil and I love having fun. Randomly cast slumber on a party member while they are trying to buy something, or as I did in the game last night... Bard got attacked by a swarm of rats, I glitterdusted them and on my next turn, I attacked their swarm with my swarm of vomit spiders. Then I enlarged him and convinced him to "stop drop and roll". We had the entire table laughing. but I wouldn't purposely kill one just because I'm playing an evil character. ![]()

It was. I don't care about leveling or anything. Only time I get experience is when the other people ask for it. The DM actually has some very thought out "quests" ![]()

Nah, from the sounds of it, it sounded like something fun for his character to do so he could get an enormous amount of experience and take all their loot/gold and beef himself up even more. He never tries anything like that when I'm on the table with my fighter or the other barbarian there because he knows they'd destory him. ![]()
The DM invites him since we play at a card shop. The DM has no problems with him trying to do it. The other plays do but won't stop him because he could kill them in a fight. Others are to scared to die because they like getting experience and like their character. I wanna DM but I am in no way prepared for it. Just because of situations like this. ![]()
well he failed his coupe de grace on one individual who woke up and saw it happen. This individual rarely plays so everyone else in game doesn't know it happened. It's all metagaming... that's why I made the bloodrager... for the sole purpose of murdering him so bad he won't want to play again. My idea is that he is an assassin sent by the one individual who caught him to murder only him. It would be the groups decision to help the bloodrager or just let him do his thing. I wasn't there when it happened. If I was, I probably would have just up and left. ![]()
Okay I figured out what I'm going to do. We are going to kill him and not invite him back. It'll piss him and his girlfriend off but oh well... He thinks he's invincible so I made the a bloodrager. Enlarge person, rage with EWP bastard sword... Use true insight (+20 attack roll)
6D8+6d8+21... This should be enough damage to own anyone at level 6. Would there be a way for him to dodge or escape the massive blow? ![]()
I'm playing with a large group of people... roughly 6-10 on a weekly basis. We have this one person who plays his character in a way that "If his character feels you are helping him, he would like to keep you around". Kind of a selfish character who looks out for himself. Eh, who cares but it really picked a nerve with a bunch of us... but the DM doesn't really care. Last game session this guy ran away when the group was attacked by a giant rock golem thing. The golem destroyed the group... but did not kill them (I have a feeling it was the GM padding the die that kept everyone just under 0 hp). This rogue came back and attempted to kill the whole party ... just so he can become more powerful by looting and selling the gear. The DM thinks its hilarious and he's letting it happen. Tonight, three of us were clearing a dungeon and he came in. He said he didn't wanna join because it was dangerous but as soon as we killed the BBEG and opened the chest, he jumped in and demanded loot. The three of us told him no, it's ours because we did the fight, he said "I'll just kill your characters off then". I like grouping with a bunch of the people but seriously... if I get killed because of some greedy whiner, I'm probably going to stop playing. It's giving a bad taste of the game. I understand the point of the game is for everyone to have fun but it's not fun if one person kills everyone off just to get a +147998 weapon. The three of us made it clear that it is a bad idea to do it... outside of the game... to him... but I have a feeling he'll try anyway with the knowledge of our previous gaming experiences. How can we, the players, stop this? He's also extremely min/maxed as in... somehow having a +17 to perception as a rogue at level 6 and having 26 AC, +11/9/12 to fort/reflex/will saves... Suggestions?
