When you reach the main deck, it’s quickly apparent that you are on a sizable ship in the middle of the ocean, far from any land. Port Peril and the mainland of the Shackles are just an ochre haze many miles astern.
Figures cluster around the ship’s mainmast, looking up at the higher deck on the stern, where two figures stand. One of them is a broad, muscular Garundi man with a shaven head, a long beard bound with gold rings, and an eye patch. Clearly the captain. The other is a younger, balding man with a long black ponytail, wearing a long coat and carrying a well-used cat-o’-nine-tails.
At this point, you also notice that you six are not the only new recruits. Four others are standing with them on the deck, set apart by their relative cleanliness and their apparent unease with their newfound situation. A dozen or so other pirates, clearly existing members of the crew, stand about on the deck or in the ship’s rigging.
“Glad you could join us at last! Welcome to the Wormwood! My thanks for ‘volunteering’ to join my crew. I’m Barnabas Harrigan. That’s Captain Barnabas Harrigan to you, not that you’ll ever need to address me. I have only one rule: don’t speak to me. I like talk, but I don’t like your talk. Follow that rule and we’ll all get along fine. “Oh, and one more thing. Even with you new recruits, we’re still short-handed, and I aim to keep what crew I have. There’ll be a keelhaulin’ for anyone caught killin’ anyone. Mr. Plugg! If you’d be so kind as to make pirates out of these landlubbers, it’ll save me having to put them in the sweatbox for a year and a day before I make pies out of ’em.”
At the end of his speech, the captain walks away, leaving behind the man with the cat-o’-nine-tails. This is apparently, Mister Plugg, the Wormwood’s first mate. He looks down at you and the other impressed captives and smiles unpleasantly.
Darkness, and pain. A major headache it seems. And something else, a taste of nutmeg still on your tongue. dc15 alchemy, dc10 nature check . As you open your eyes you see morning light coming through a crack in the wall. The window that would be. It seems you partied harder than you remember as the room is still swaying, and the floor seems to be creaking. As you try to sit up, suddenly the door flies open.
“Still abed with the sun over the yardarm? On your feet, ye filthy swabs! Get up on deck and report for duty before Cap’n Harrigan flays your flesh into sausage skins and has Fishguts fry ye up for breakfast!"
A short man with a beard braided into straight dreads and a long black leather jacket stands in the doorway, about half a dozen forms behind him. As you look around you notice two things. Firstly, you're not alone, there are nearly half a dozen other people in seemingly the same state as you. Secondly, you seem to have none of your stuff. Even your overclothes seem gone, having been replaced by a cheap shirt and short trousers.
Yes Madame Ming has 3 traits, because i gave her the foul hand drawback.
That's where the brand of Besmara comes from, it gives a minus to some skills i'll be using.
Can be removed though.
You know what, I'll let the group decide. I didn't add in the option of drawbacks, but I'm open to allowing it if nobody minds. Anyone wanting to add that of course is free to do so.
Hello! Looking forward to plundering the high seas with everyone.
It seems like the crew is:
Which I just realized is all female! With no overlap on races. Very cool.
I had not realised it was all female until others pointed it out. I mostly took on characters based on backstory, and also I wanted a party that covers most bases, but not all of them so there is something to work towards.
I'm considering whether to add a sixth to the party, she's an old friend and has played many campaigns with me, though never this one.
On one hand, she didn't apply through the thread(as i forgot to mention I was running)
on the other hand she's fun to play with, and she'd be willing to play a bard, giving you both a buffer and a librarian.
I'll start the intro thread later today, and then we can get going. Feel free to give me any feedback or questions.
if you wish to make minor alterations to the sheet, take until Saturday.
I do have one question for Madame Ming, you seem to have three traits instead of two, is that correct? Just wanted to check.
Ok, after a day and a half of comparing sheets, backgrounds, and even a coin flip in one instance, I made my decision. It wasn't easy, there are enough really good applications here for three or more tables, sadly I only have time for one.
So my picks are:
Madame Ming
Ellie Dewblossom
Liz Ardoc
Brunnhild Liefsdottir
Lily Tuvol.
Your post had me looking at race and we have six half-elf applicants. DM could take us all and still have room for two more elves.
Will they be standing atop each other in a trenchcoat?
Deadline is roughly 14 hours. I will take a day or two to review, yes, that is long, but despite having already been looking at the entries, I'm going to have a closer look, also to reduce overlap and increase synergy.
GM katataban, do you have an expectation for posts? Like once per day or five times a week? Also, what application are you planning on using for maps?
Sorry, don't know how I missed this.
I was thinking a minimum posting of once every 48 hours seems fair, though I will ask players to try to post more often, especially in combat situations. Absences can simply be pm'ed to me. As for maps, something simple, like google draw maybe. I'd rather not commit people to using extra software to play.
Unfortunately i personally don't have the time at hands, since i already run several campaigns atm, but this here looks a lot like there could be several groups starting.
Perhaps some people will find the time and courage to step, running some more games of this?
It does seem very popular. If only I had the time to run more games atm.
Quick round up of questions. If I missed anything, please let me know.
"Are aquatic elves playable? It lists the RP as unkown?"
Sorry, no.
Aquatic elf is 14 rp. Not sure why d20pfsrd classes them as unknown, their race page itself states the 14rp
"Would you be open to giving everyone Power attack/deadly aim/combat expertise/point blank shot feats for free/as combat options? I've always seen them as something that should have been built into the system base not as feats (maybe combat expertise can stay a feat) And it would help sword+pistol style builds and help just give people a more piratey feel by letting them throw things or switch hit a little be easier."
This sounds like an intriguing concept, but also a huge balance shift. I've been looking it over, but at this point I feel I'd need to do a lot of rewriting to account for the new powerlevel.
"It's rather long still with already a lot of applicants^^"
I'll be honest, I hadn't expected half the people we already have by the deadline. I already dread having to choose with so many great characters.
"I'm hoping you will allow the Lightning subdomain as a choice for a storm druid."
I'm pretty sure lightning was meant to be an option for storm druids. Would be rather silly otherwise.
Every once in a while I get the urge to go out to sea and hunt for booty. But with COVID and the restrictions on travel, I'll have to settle for a play by post experience.
Skull and Shackles is one of my favourite AP's, and since my first run 9 years ago, I'm planning to make this my twelfth completed run.
I'm looking for five people that I can volunteer into the life of piracy.
I do really want to stress I'm looking for people who are in it for the long haul, to experience all six

Noon strikes and the gathered crowd filters into the building while the
children who have gathered run off to play. When you all enter the town hall, guards positioned at the front doors direct them to the council chamber, the entrance of which is just past the main hallway. Just before the meeting begins, the guards move to stand outside the chamber’s southern door.
Once inside the council chamber, you see that the room is set up as an
auditorium, with a carpeted walkway separating several rows of benches into two sections. The carpet leads to a small set of steps and a raised dais. On the dais is a large desk separated into five parts, where the Breachill Town Council’s five members are seated, talking quietly with one another as they wait for the meeting to start. On the desk, situated in front of each chair, are tarnished bronze plaques bearing the names of the council members. From east to west, the names are Jorsk Hinterclaw, Melma Ann Sendari, Greta Gardania, Trini Sprizzlegig, and Quentino Posandi.
Melma, Greta, and Quentino are humans, Jorsk is a dwarf, and Trini is a gnome. In all, there are 40 townspeople in addition to the PCs and the councilors assembled for the meeting.
With a sharp rap from her gavel onto the desk, a stern, dark-haired woman with a deeply furrowed forehead and kind eyes brings the assembled crowd to a hush. “Welcome, neighbors and friends...” the dark-haired woman begins, her rich voice washing over the room, “...to the Breachill Town Council’s monthly Call for Heroes. I am Council President Greta Gardania, at your service. On behalf of my colleagues beside me, I promise you all that we will hear and consider today’s petition with the utmost discretion and care. There is no existence without community, as our town charter says. Today, our agenda includes one petition. Miss Warbal, our very own ambassador to the Bumblebrashers of Hellknight Hill, requests the help of heroes for a matter of utmost importance. Let’s hear her concerns in her own words, shall we? Miss Warbal?”
At this summons, Warbal emerges from the front row of benches. The well-dressed goblin woman makes her way to the foot of the dais’s steps. She clears her throat and begins her address to the council.
“Esteemed councilors,” Warbal says, with a frazzled tone to her voice. “It has been more than a month since I’ve been able to contact the Bumblebrashers. I fear that something terrible has befallen them. What’s more, I have seen my people’s distress signal coming from the top of Citadel Altaerein—”
Before the goblin can continue her petition, the door on the western side of the room flies open, as a young man, his eyes wide with panic, runs in shouting and waving his ink-stained hands. Billowing black smoke and flames follow him into the room: “Fire! There’s a fire! Everyone flee!”

“You are adventurers! Are you not? You are just the heroes I hope the council might hire on my behalf. But please, there is a system in place for a reason. Come with me into the meeting and listen to my petition. If you are up for my task, I beg you to offer your services to the
council. You might be my tribe’s only hope!”
As the party walks North towards the town hall they notice the large Well pumps just outside the town hall, seems the town may have had some fire problems in the past.
In front of the town hall a sizeable crowd has formed. Several kids, upon seeing the adventurers approach run towards them to gawk.
Harley, Karen, and Cris:
Within the crowd you see a well dressed Goblin woman who seems rather distressed. If you come closer you hear her talking to herself: "My Bumblebrashers, Why haven’t I heard from my Bumblebrashers? Are my people trapped in the citadel?”
Harley, and if notified by the others, Kari:
You remember that the Bumblebrashers are a small local goblin tribe that lives in Citadel Altaerein, the abandoned Hellknight keep to the northeast.[/b]

So I started my subscription with 1.01 1.02 and 1.03, Does that mean I need to buy 1.00 seperately, as it was not available when I started the sub, or will it be part of next month's batch?
As the adventurers are talking amongst themselves, the bells of the town hall start ringing, signifying that the call for heroes will soon start. The few regulars in the bar get up, and slowly start making their way across the street to the big hall where petitioners will officially request the adventurers' help. As they walk out, they each throw a copper piece at Ezya's feet.
Knowing that Europe is a less important market, it would still be nice if some of the shows could be hosted at times accesible to European players, we'd like to contribute as well.
13.00 pacific means 21.00 in the UK/22.00CET/ 23.00 in Russia.
16.00 pacific means midnight in the UK, and later for the rest of us.
In the end I realise that chances are slim, but who knows, maybe one episode every month or every two months could be aired at 13.00 Pacific to include your European customer base?
Oh yes, I needed to open the discussion thread, done now. If people want to form connections pre-game, please let me know as it will effect the campaign's start a bit.
Sorry for the late reply, this is not usually me, but I had a very sick kid needing hospitalisation over the weekend. I will be going through all the applications today, and will choose the table within the next 24 hours.
So, was just checking the challenge point adjustments, especially the level bump mechanic.
It says, "Increase the Hit Point totals of all enemy creatures by 10 or by 10%, whichever is higher." which make sense for tough single monsters,or at later tiers, but imagine an encounter of say 5 goblins at 6 points each, they would then all have 16 hp, an increase of 167% in HP. Seems to me that it would turn a relatively short fight for 5 level 2 players into a rather long fight. Is this WAD or was this an oversight
So today, I tried to buy the Pathfinder society subscription. There must have been some kind of bug, either on my end, or yours because i got like 5 messages saying transaction declined due to insufficient funds. Checked the card account, made sure there was sufficient money, tried again. Again, same message.
To my surprise however, it seems that the money was taken out of the account both the first and second try. So now I paid 24 bucks, but no products.
Historically, when the term primogeniture has been used it has been presumed to be agnatic or at least male-preference primogeniture rather than absolute primogeniture. Remember that in RL, almost no nation used absolute primogeniture until the late 20th century.
Actually there are hundreds of examples of agnatic-cognatic and even full cognatic primogeniture throughout history. From the Basque and other Gallic kingdoms to many tengri nations. But even if they hadn't it makes no difference to the subject.
"Crystal"}I'm the developer for War for the Crown, and I specifically elected to go with the word "primogeniture" rather than delve into pedantry about specific subcategories of a tradition that was getting overturned before the PCs really become involved in the action. [/QUOTE wrote:
So what they're saying is, they specifically chose the wrong word in order to not sound pedantic? That explains so much.
Primogeniture, litterally meaning the firstborn is invested. Meaning that the firstborn child of the ruler inherits all titles.
Since Eutropia is Stavian's firstborn, the worst thing to happen for her would be losing Primogeniture. And then, what to replace it with? Salic inheritance? Ultimogeniture?
From the context it looks like that what she is trying to get rid of is agnatic inheritance, but the AP keeps telling me she wants to get rid of primogeniture. What is the reasoning behind this?
So, I'm currently using what seems to be the last version of the UCAM sheet, 5.4m. Everything seems to work, except the taxation. No matter to what level I set it, it just stays at 1 loyalty.
I have a pdf in my cart that I'm wanting to purchase. I click on the three numbered buttons, but nothing happens, when I get to the third page, it tells me that once submitted, the pdf will be added to my account, but there is no button to submit the order. I've tried via chrome, edge, and firefox, and none of them display any buttons to complete the order.
As the prospective Starfinder society agents speak amongst themselves, the shuttle takes off.
"Good day, passengers. This is Absalom station control. Your shuttle is on approach to docking bay 94. Please be aware that due to traffic density you are being controlled by station operations. Any attempt to manually alter course would risk fellow travellers, and is therefore strictly prohibited. Your E.T.A. is approximately ten standard minutes."
After months of searching, asking, and hoping, you finally succeeded in tracking down a member of the now somewhat elusive Starfinder Society. Where they used to be everywhere, recent events have left them somewhat sparce. Sadly, you cannot join their ranks without being introduced by one of their members.
Finally a Dwarf named Duravor Kreel contacted you, and invited you to come to Absalom station where the society's headquarters are located. Though you had to make your own way to the station, he did provide you with a ticket for a shuttle between the station's outer docking rings and the station's habitat facilities. Duravor explained that several prospective members would be in the shuttle, as it was easier to deal with all of you at once rather than going through everything five times.
So after travelling for quite a while, you now find yourself in the shuttle Okimoro which is on its way to the habitat's docking bay 94. The cabin is nearly empty, only five passengers including yourself. These must be the other recruits.
There's about fifteen minutes until the Okimoro wil dock.
