Thank you! Switched mine too.

Jeff, which days I'd they give you the discount for? Wen I booked Friday and Saturday, they told me it was ful!

Sovereign Court

Any size room? They told me all that the block was completely booked, and only king-size-bed rooms were available besides (at normal rates.. well, AAA rates, which is still way too high for me right now).

I was not super impressed with the woman helping me. I asked if there was a waiting list for the con block and she said she didn't know and wouldn't have access if there was. When I asked who did have access, she got vague and confused and said I would just have to ask when I checked in..

Sovereign Court

I am a slowpoke and only just tired to get a room.. No conblock rooms were left so I think I will be staying offsite. :(

Sovereign Court

It's confusing to talk about them at the table, and I keep forgetting to tell PCs that they're at the encounter that gives them their bonus from the draw.. :( I make copious notes in several places and I still am about 80% on alerting the player.

I have a player who almost never uses either (she rarely remembers to use action points either when we play those games), but that's the player more than the two systems.

I did make print outs of what you can do with hero points and harrow points for each player, so they can keep it for reference. I think that is helpful.

Alternately, you could combine the two systems. Up the hero point maximum to 4 or 5 and let them use their hero points for the bonuses of each adventure (in addition to the other things). Give out a hero point for the reading, in addition to leveling and any other super heroic things they may do.

Hello,

One of my players is playing a monk going into the monkey shen prestige class (an old 3.5 prestige class from dragon magazine). For purposes of monk AC and monk unarmed damage, the prestige class stacks with monk levels for determining those bonuses. I have likewise extended those to include the monk's ability to add their class level instead of their BAB to their CMB.

However, the player wants to know if the monk levels and monkey shen levels stack for purposes of qualifying for feats that have a monk level requirement (cloud step and spider step is what she is specifically looking at). I haven't been able to locate any monk-specific prestige classes within the sets of pathfinder books to help me make a judgement on it.

How have other people handled this? I don't remember that there were any feats in 3.5 that required a certain number of monk levels to get, nor any classes that said that monk levels and its levels stacked for everything a monk got (most stacked for damage and flurry, but few if any for slowfall or ac bonuses, for example).

I am thinking that since Pathfinder's design philosophy seems in part to encourage base classes over prestige classes, and that some things ought to remain completely unique to base classes, that I should say no. There are also very few fighter prestige classes that ever stacked with fighter levels to qualify for fighter bonus feats, as I recall, which is another strike against monk & monk prestige classes stacking in Pathfinder or 3.5.

However, I don't want to punish the player for seeking out a prestige class that helps her play the character she wants to portray. This particular player is also my least metagamey/least inclined to min/max player.

Any advice, thoughts, or comments would be appreciated!

Aaagghhhh! Today a random murder of imps attacked the party and the one carrying the Raktadagger tries to hit one with his shiny new magic sword (not good or silver) and he wails:

How many weapons do I need to carry?? I will end up with 15 daggers on my belt!

Another player says: dont you have that silver dagger?

He responds:but it doesn't work!

Somewhere Viminda chortles as nothing more is thought of it.

Sovereign Court

My players are disappointingly incurious about the dagger. One of them has been carrying it ever since they picked it up. But that it failed to be useful in the encounter with the were-rats has not elicited the slightest bit of interest in anyone.

Sovereign Court

Bryan is so much cleverer and better informed than I am! ;)

It is my impression that reaper in fact has discontinued the proof of purchase program. New blisters no longer have them.

I am also fairly sure I was told this was the last year they would allow you to redeem them for reaper bucks for the auction at reaper con.

My husband wants to make an inquisitor with the Family Subdomain. The Binding Ties power allows him to transfer a condition from another person to himself. Grappled is a condition and he and I disagree as to whether the power should allow one to transfer the condition (he thinks yes, I think no). How have other people handled this power and things like Entangled, Death, Grappled, Helpless, Petrified, Pinned, and Prone?

Sovereign Court

I am running my group through the adventure. When they got into the room with the three vats of concentrated oozing plague, the warmage decided (after being told not to use fireball) that an ice storm would be just the thing! I gave the vats fortitude saves, under the assumption that a sudden drop in temperature would be bad for the metal plus being pelted by bludgeoning hailstones - I don't think they were built to withstand an elemental tempest.

Two of them shattered and oozed all over the place, splitting the party up as some of them made a mad dash for safety and one got plagued. Sadly, it was the monk already paralyzed by the ghoul touch so he was immune. :(

This time around, at least, the party (specifically, the warmage) did more to introduce more deadly danger to themselves than I did! They practically did my job for me.. ;)

I think they're not supposed to be spell-like abilities, but actual domain spell slots.

That doesn't make sense to me. For example, the Glory Domain at 2nd:

Shield of Faith (Sp): You can cast Shield of Faith 1/day per 2 caster levels you possess.

If they're domain spell slots, what level slot do they fall into? Do they need to be memorized via regular spell slots? That makes no sense because shield of faith is already on the cleric spell list. But on the spell progression chart for Cleric, there's no longer a +1 next to each spells-per-day entry to indicate the domain spell slot spell you can memorize. Plus, (Sp) stands for spell-like ability, does it not?

Or do you mean they are spell slots in the sense that you cast them like spells (needing components) instead of like spell-like abilities?

I have a player that wants to play an oriental adventures flavored shaman in the Curse of the Crimson Thrones path I'm gearing up to run next month. Any suggestions for fitting her in, culturally? I thought about suggesting Shoanti, but they seem a little more native americanly influenced than oriental to me. Can an oriental-flavored tribe fit in amongst the Shoanti, or does she belong somewhere else?

Thanks =)

There is no mention of taking a penalty to tumble for moving more than half your speed. Has that been intentionally removed?

Also, it's never been clear to me how the "+2 for each additional opponent avoided in one round" works with tumble. We've always played it that you roll a tumble check for each opponent, and it gets harder each time. If you're rolling past 3 people, you need to roll a 15, 17, and 19 to get past them. But I've always suspected you make one roll for all oponents at the highest number. Could that be clarified in Pathfinder?

Lastly, DC 15 + base attack bonus seems high for tumbling to me.

Barbarian:

Pg. 14 - under the "Increased Damage Reduction" Rage Power, it states that the barbarian cannot increase her damage reduction by more than 3/-, and that the power cannot be selected until 12th level. A 13th level barbarian has 3/- damage reduction. Does that mean this Rage Power is only useful for one level, or does it mean she can't have an overall total more than 6/-? It seems like this could be clearer.

Cleric:

Pg. 22 - under Channel Energy we could really use a page reference for the rule on how it works. Personally, I would rather see the rule for channel energy in with the cleric write-up (since it doesn't need a table for turning anymore) and the Channel Energy amount added to the class progression chart much like the Rogue's sneak attack damage is.

Monk:

Pg. 30 - Does the extra attack a monk can gain (on a full attack) by spending a Ki Point stack with extra attacks gained via haste and other similar spells?

Paladin:

Pg. 35 - In order for a Paladin's mount to Command an animal that is being ridden it must make a DC 21 spellcraft check. As there is no mention of a paladin's mount sharing his paladin's skills (as with familiars), that means that even if you put every skill point (minimum 1) the horse gets for bonus HD, it's going to have a maximum of 8 ranks (+8 bonus HD) for a total of 7 (9 int) before you roll the die. This is a pretty slim chance of success. Is this intentional?

Rogue:

Pg. 39 - Under Rogue Talents, it states that a rogue cannot select an individual talent more than once - does (should) this include the combat trick (feat) and weapon training (wpn focus) talents?

Sorcerer:

Pg. 43 - The feats for Celestial Bloodline struck me as very odd - Mobility, mounted combat, ride-by attack, and weapon finesse? Actually, alot of the feats seem odd, it makes me curious what the criteria was.

Wizard:

Pg. 49 - Under Arcane Bond, it states that if you choose an item to bond with, you may enchant it as if you had the required feat - does the wizard have to otherwise qualify to enchant the item? For example, Forge Ring and Craft Staff require caster level 12. Can a wizard with those items not enchant it until 12th caster level?

Pg. 194 - Under Arcane Schools - "Whenever a wizard attains the listed level, he can choose one spell from his school to prepare every day as a bonus spell." - there is no mention of whether the Wizard has to have the spell in his spellbook in order to prepare it. Is this intentional?

***

I know Class Discussion isn't open yet, but my players are starting to consider what classes they'll play, and I'd like some ideas on how I might handle some of these issues (especially the Rogue, Monk and Wizard).

/ali

Sovereign Court

Sadly, your sample monk is incorrect on at least two counts - First level monks have a +0 attack bonus, so they can't take Weapon Focus (it requires a +1 attack bonus) and monks have to be lawful, so the sample character can't be Neutral Good. Unless these are rules you're planning to throw out? (*hopeful*)

If I were in a 3.5 group that found itself often facing magical traps, I would invest in a wand of detect magic pronto (actually, I've been in this situation - one in which we had no rogue to disarm traps, no less) and use that throughout the entire dungeon to at least help us bypass the magical traps. A wand of detect magic is cheap enough that it was like using at will.

of course, a GM can also refuse to let players find a wand of detect magic.

and then a player can take the feat to make wands of detect magic. *shrug*

It's not that much diferent, just a little cheaper

I listened to wild magic (actually, I think I bought it from audible.com) and read the other books in the series. I'll have to see about listening to wolfspeaker, though. I've also listened to the lioness, terrier, and trickster books from Tamora, and have meant to spend some time listening to the magic circle series, too. I thought Wild Magic was extremely enjoyable to listen to, good work =)

We were playing tonight and the sorcerer had the fey bloodline. She used her first level ability (making someone laugh) and we wanted to know if there was a save.. ? There wasn't anything in the entry itself, or that I could find in the bloodline general description.. am I missing something?

Thanks

Are these images going to be on the front or the back of the shirt? I'd need to know that before I bought or pledged to buy anything.

I like the goblin t-shirt best, but as I've recently ordered the existing back and white one, I'm unlikely to buy another one, so I guess I'll be waiting for the next round of designs =)

Very rarely have I played a rogue and used sleight-of-hand for stealing stuff. Most often, I've used it to conceal things on my person (but I think you're technically supposed to use hide for that in 3.5). One time I was being held hostage and successfully got a dagger without my captor noticing. Boy was he surprised by my sneak attack..

Anyway, it doesn't make much sense to rename it theft and put it with open lock, because there's things you can do with sleight of hand besides steal things. I prefer the Open Lock + Disable Device & the Escape Artist & Sleight of Hand combinations, if combinations must be made.. =)

You could also combine sleight of hand with bluff, because when you don't have access to psychic paper sometimes you have to distract the guards by shuffling alot of papers and assuring them you belong.

Hmm.. I removed something from my cart and added something else and the discount was working again..

Although, I did at the same time receive my "Your Pathfinder #8 has shipped" email.

/ali

Sovereign Court

I meant to order these when they were initially released, but of course I missed the date and let time wander by and now they're all backordered.. *sigh*

Can anyone tell me when they are expected to be back in stock? I'm trying to decide whether to hold the rest of the items until they arrive or find the module I want soonest at a LGS instead.

/ali

Sovereign Court

My discount is missing as well.. :( And it didn't come back when I tried again later!

I think a better way to show half-elven adaptability than a weapon bonus is to let the player choose at creation whether they've been more influenced by their elven or human heritage.

If raised primarily by elven principles, give them elven weapon proficiencies & elven language choices.

If raised primarily by human principles, give them the human skill bonus & the human language choices.

The additional weapon choice being moved from half-elves to humans seemed unnecessary. Humans get enough for being human as it is, IMO.

Sovereign Court

I am in favor of keeping the 3.5 skill system mostly in tact for players with the following changes:

1. Get rid of cross-class skill distinctions.

I've been playing in a game for over 2 years where we have no cross-class skill restrictions. It has not broken the game, nor taken away anyone's "niche" - my druid is still the expert at knowledge: nature, but she's also competant at climb, jump, move silently, hide, and tumble, because she's an active sort of person who likes to climb trees and observe nature without disturbing it. It leads to more rounded characters, and a fighter with a bit of diplomacy or knowledge: history is more interesting than one that can only jump, climb, intimidate, swim, and ride.

2. Consolodate skills as presented in the Alpha document.

This gives the low-SP pcs more bang for the buck, and allows the rogue to do more interesting things than pick locks, disable devices, and spot/listen/search with their skill points.

3. Let the max-rank-system as presented in the alpha release be an optional rule for NPCs to be created quickly and easily. I don't think NPCs have to have the same creation rules as PCs.

/ali

Sovereign Court

I dislike the 3.5 weapon size system because it hurts smaller PCs who usually already suffer a strength and/or con penalty and also have a hard time getting any loot because weapons found on the monsters you kill are almost always medium or larger. It sucks to have a -str penalty AND do a d4 instead of a d6 with a short sword because you're short. It's the same problem as the 3.5 size penalty for grapple combined with the strength penalty for size. It may be more "realistic" but it's alot less fun (or feasable) to play a gnome giant slayer.

I would like to see sizes and different dices discarded and have a short sword, long sword, or great sword be the same regardless of the size of who is wielding it. Then no one has to worry about how or whether it can be wielded and small people don't get double penalized.

/ali

Sovereign Court

I'd also like to see the conjurer getting an ability more conjury - being able to pull JUST the thing you need out of your pocket would be great. Perhaps they can conjure a mundane, non-alchemical item of a certain GP value that goes up as they level?

To be a charter subscriber, you had to sign up for an ongoing subscription before a certain date—just transitioning issues to Pathfinder didn't count towards "charterhood."

Well, this seems to be the place to get answers.

When I placed my order on the 7th of December, everything was listed as "ready to go in one day" except for a miniature that said 3-5 days. I thought it'd be no problem to get it before Christmas.

The website still shows that my order is awaiting shipment. I've got two order of the stick books - Origins of the PCs - Are these experiencing the same delay as mentioned for Dungeon Crawling Fools in another thread?

If I need to cancel all or part of my order, how do I get ahold of someone? I sent an email on the 12th and still have received no answer.

Thanks,

With regards to Elementalist & Wild Mage - I am fairly certain that both are in the complete arcane. Also, there are some elemental-like classes in the planar handbook (Elemental Warrior comes to mind), and there might have been a spellcasting equivalent as well.

The animal lord was re-written for the complete adventurer. It was kinda gutted, but the wildshaping at will ability WAS a little broken (my husband is desperately hoping our GM won't pick up the complete adventurer and make him "update" his character to fit the new writing of the class). ;)
