Liberty's Edge

Thank you. Already squared away at my bank.

Liberty's Edge

I attempted to make the charge and after it declined knowing that it must be in error I attempted again. I can see that the funds were deducted from my banking account twice. From what I have read on others threads this is probably an issue with the address not matching up (we were just in the bank Friday requesting it to be updated.) Can you reverse these two charges please please?

Thanks in advance,

John

Liberty's Edge

Thank you. They are shipping me a new one. Hopefully this one is more indefatigable.

Liberty's Edge

So I got it this Saturday Feb 1. from Amazon and I just noticed the binding is 70 percent off on the title page and working its way inward to about 25 percent midway in. I know that this is not a problem of all the softbound books because I ran all of Kingmaker and it is still with me.

Very sad.

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If that was a PFS ruling I would have to go with the OP.

I have never carried to a table nor have I had any inclination to do so but I have seen it done and not been offended or threatened. You will never need to fear a law abiding citizen. Any organization that ostracizes members for expressing their legal rights does not need me.

Long time gamer looking for a home game. I am out in Rita Ranch but I travel well and am fairly available.

Thanks in advance.

Gobsmacked!

Thank you for the catch. I will adjust the vision. I will switch out the club for a light mace and give up on carrying a Scimitar until Bladebound kicks in.

Thanks again.

Liberty's Edge

First off thank you for taking a look. This is my understanding of how to set this up from everything I have read. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Liberty's Edge

Hello,

Did you find a group?

John

Liberty's Edge

@Humphrey Boggard It really depends on where you are coming from. I moved to AZ in the summer from Colorado. Poor tactical positioning. I imagine if you were coming from equivalent circumstances (say 2 inches from the sun) then it would not be a problem.
@Taijutsu I have to check with my players tomorrow. Will let you know.

Liberty's Edge

@ Taijutsu Did I meet you at PFS on Saturday? We talekd about Wheel of Time. I have four players now but we just started the campaign I might be able to work something out.
@ Humphrey Boggard Don't move to Tucson in the summer it is a trap! That is a way off. Hit me up when you get to the city.

Liberty's Edge

So we have finished our last campaign and are looking at starting our new one. Unfortunately that will be after the holidays. Looking at starting January 5th. Bimonthly Saturday evenings. I play with my wife and my step daughter (14) both of which are pretty new to roleplaying. Looking to add 2-3 players.
Golarion campaign Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition. If this is what you are looking for drop me a line.

Liberty's Edge

That is the crux of your problem then. The Adventure Paths are stated out for a 4 person party so if you are going strictly by the book for xp/loot then are going to end up 25 percent short with 5 players. Short term it is bearable but, since all APs are long term that will cause problems.

Liberty's Edge

One of my former players is an exile working in DC now. Actually 2 but I am not sure how much the other one plays anymore. Will ping them when I am on their schedule.

Liberty's Edge

I apologize if I missed this but are we calculating this on a 4 person party? If you have more they are going to be poor. If/How you rebalance that is a different discussion.

Agreed you are doing it right and if you just finished the catacombs that is not a long enough measure for you to worry about it. Also it is going to vary based on how much they sell or keep if you are doing standard devaluation.

Liberty's Edge

Rereading Queen of Demons by David Drake. Book 2 of the Lord of the Isles. Love it. Great writer

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the writeup. Very good stuff. Starting my own campaign soon after City of Golden Death.

One query though did you use the Town Square Flip Mat in the beginning or print it out yourself?

Liberty's Edge

Jacen that is very great. Much appreciated for sharing.

Liberty's Edge

I will know if a few weeks. We are playing bi weekly due to the wifes schedule. Rerunning Crypt of the Everflame for 2 of my players who missed it on Saturday if you are interested in that.

Liberty's Edge

If you are in 85737 I am about a 45 minute drive from you (I know because my wife did clinicals at Oro Valley Hospital.) We are finishing up one game now and then starting Rise of the Runelords. I am not sure if we have space or not yet. Also it is a mixed experience group. Take it or leave it I imagine. I can't and am not offering anything at this juncture though.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you angelroble. Your search fu is apparently very strong.

Liberty's Edge

Hmmm I am up about a month and have not received it or I would be passing it around (thank you free time at work.) So if you could host or at least partially share that would be greatly appreciated.

gunslingeraz AT gmail.com

Thanks in advance,

Liberty's Edge

Love the write up so far. I don't generally care for SciFi/Fantasy but love what you have wrote so far.

Liberty's Edge

Wow could someone shoot that to me

gunslingeraz AT gmail DOT com

Thanks in advance,

Liberty's Edge

Are you in Beckley? I have people in Beckley WV. I am on the MST right now but they only free time I have for a project is while I am at work overnight M-F. And would need to get more people. That being said getting together around a table is best.

Liberty's Edge

Don't worry about it. I am on company time. I just hope that it helps.

Liberty's Edge

Oh and Imperial Outpost no clue how far that one is either.

Liberty's Edge

I hate lazy DMs. The only thing that I am sure I always do right is prep. I don't know the area but according to my VL down here Samurai Comics http://paizo.com/forums/dmtz5bj6?Pathfinder-Society-in-Phoenix-AZ#4 . I am not sure how far that is from you though.

Liberty's Edge

No worries. No one likes to be LFG. I would keep an eye out for Pathfinder Society events in your area. Check your local game store. It is a fix for the jones but you can also meet a lot of good people. I have gotten a couple of invites through those channels. Also look on meetup.com I believe your local RPG group is east valley dungeons and dragons. There may be an equivalent Pathfinder group or they may play Pathfinder. As I said it is out of my zip code but I know people who know people.

Liberty's Edge

Sorry we are in SE Tucson but I do recall someone posting for Phoenix recently. Not sure about the drive times as it is all one big sprawl to me when I go up there.
Good luck.

Liberty's Edge

Max dex on Banded mail is +1 and the same with Full plate. You are putting a lot into dex which is only going to help you with ranged and skills which you are already eating because of your ACP.
Toughness is OK. Dodge and shield focus I am unsure on. Generally speaking offensive feats are better than defensive. I think this is either on purpose. If you were impossible to hit it makes the game just drag. By forcing PC's and antagonists be offensive it speeds things up.
I would go power attack and weapon focus.
My level 3 archer Paladin is almost untouchable at 20 AC. Of course the tactics are different.
Hope that helps.

Liberty's Edge

When it comes to survivability I don't think anyone can argue with a Paladin. (Yes the internet will always argue with X no matter what X is.)
So let me make my case for a Paladin. Archer Paladin or otherwise. At level 2 you get Lay on Hands which is plus d6 hit points Cha mod all the time and you can help others. You get huge save bonuses. Also a pretty decent damage dealer.

Just my 2 cents. I don't really do the flat fighter. Good luck.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you LF.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you so much. That was what I was looking for. Thinking about reading the thin book about Goblins too since they make the first book fun.

Liberty's Edge

Anyone have any suggestions for additional reading before running RotRL?

Thanks in advance,

Liberty's Edge

I will second Paz down the line.
Begginer Box is cheap and a great gift too. I ran it for my 13 year old (girl) and my wife (non gamer.) They both had fun.
Then I ran them through Crypt of the Everflame which is a good playthrough.

Liberty's Edge

So thank you everyone for your help!

I started up on a 2H build last night at work. I really wish I could show it to you but WSUS (Windows Server Update Service) had a sub setting that if you did not have it set to download and install and then either propmpt or automatically restart within X days of a critical update that it would take it upon itself to install and if neccessary restart. So three days later at 0300 all our production servers on the Virtual Cluster started rebooting on thier own. At work by myself. Worst night ever. Friday the 13th.

So I have to have this done by tomorrow 1100 but I am almost there and will post up when I can.

1st level 2H paladin assuming even STR thinking 18.
Best feats Power Attack & Fast Learner or Power Attack and Power attack and Furous Focus?

Also is there some link for suggested 1st level gear for Paladins?

Again thank you so much everyone.

Liberty's Edge

Oh and thank you everyone for all the help. Sorry I am trying to swim upstream.

Liberty's Edge

Bodhizen! I have read your excellent guide and the accompanying discussion. Both are great. I was really looking for a way to make this work even on a subpar level.... which by the rules seems implausible.
I mean for the meager benefits a shied gives you to make it even more cumbersome to work out. For either sword and board to work or even twf you have to be using small or a buckler (+1ac) which lets be honest you are just carrying for the magical bonuses on it. Which I will not have to worry about for a while.

So from my time as a Scadian (long past) I carried what D&D would consider a tower and I sure that I could touch myself with a hand without dropping either. That being said D&D nor Pathfinder is constrained by reality. So I would not enforce that nor do I on the Paladin that plays in my game. I can see that the rules are written that way and am not disputing that in any way. I am just saying that it is entirely disheartening and takes any viability out of this build. So back to formula as they say. Holy crap two handing.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you so much everyone.

I am still reading through some of the stuff suggested. I am going to put a newer clean build once I get to work tonight.

Honestly it does not look like I am getting much but +2 AC for a long time +headache from my shield. Is this why 2H is the preffered build after Paladin Archer?

Liberty's Edge

Good catch Tels! I am sure I would have checked that before going. Yep absolutely sure. No but really thank you.

Carn thanks for the look up. I will have to look at that but I am working now and we inexplicably block that domain (but not the Paizo SRD.) It works much better for point buy.

Maybe not just longsword and heavy shield but it is the romanticized idea that I have. I have been running Kingmaker for what seems like forever and PFS is my chance to get away from it.

Again I am deeply indebted to each of you for all the help!

Liberty's Edge

Thank you so much for the suggestions.

Carn, I think that feat is in Advanced Race Guide. I don't have a copy yet. Keep looking for it to be available on Amazon or FLNGS but haven't seen it yet. Not sure if that book is legal for Pathfinder Society yet guess that is something I could ask in the PFS forums.

End Target level is 12 in PFS not much more going on beyond that level.

Thanks again.

Liberty's Edge

I am not sure about where some of those questions lead.

Heavy shield two hands? No but what are you talking about.

Multiclass would be very far off if at all and it becomes unlikely.

Sword and Board in one? You mean like a spiked shield? Not really what I am looking for but as far as answering all rule requirements spectacularly that does it.

Liberty's Edge

Are you trying to lead into TWF ? No I am not interested in that or a buckler. If I could find a way to make a Tower Shield work I would.

Liberty's Edge

So fair disclosure I have spent the last 2 days at work doodling stat blocks trying to figure out how to make a Paladin be what I want it to be and meet the nebulous DPR requirements. Then I spent a time telling myself that a 2H or archer Paladin would be ok. I just could not buy it for myself. Other people can RP what they care to and I think that is dandy but for me my cowboys smoke Marlboros and my Paladins are sword and board.

So concept is: Sword and Board (defensive) Paladin for PFS> High Charisma face style. I think I really just need to get to survive until level 2 and Once LoH and the saves bonus kick in I should be fine. I have played a number of Paladins before but I can't recall playing a level 1.

So since I cannot get this on my own or have no confidence in what I have:

Human
Str 16
Dex 10
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 8
Cha 16+2

Feats Power attack & Furious focus

Traits
Rich (it is a bad choice but half plate)
Eyes and Ears of the City (I wanted to take dangerously curious since I have that Cha but so few skills etc... and hard to sword and board with a wand)

Skills
Diplomacy
Perception
Knowledge Religion

Thanks in advance for all the help. I feel like I am just running in circles.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the responses everyone. I was busy getting married/honeymoon so could not post back. (Sidenote: Wife quote "You spent more time working on that game than you did helping me with our wedding.")

We probably got 2/3 of the way through. I am going to finish it up with a couple of the guys who are still out here soon. Had a lot of fun and scalped some of the players.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you for the response.
I am going to try to push them through it. May pull an extra hour or two but that is all the time I have. I am pretty well prepared.Just need to cut the table talk and save every minute of time that I can. I have 6 players so they may pound through it.

Will know this Sunday.

Liberty's Edge

My search-fu has failed or the answer is not out there. How long to run Tomb of the Iron Medusa in hours please?
I am running it for some of my friends that are in from the east in one marathon session. Will 12 hours be enough?

Thanks in advance,

Liberty's Edge

I pretty much used everyone (involuntarily) as a flanking buddy. Acrobatics helped a lot. I caught 2 AoO but they did not stick. I may have to reevaluate that when they do.
I picked up the equipment reccomended. Helped a lot in the second Scenario.
Worse thing was my dice are out of shape (Confirmed Atheist who never met a dice superstition that I did not like.) I did not miss by a D4 or D6 I generally missed by D10. So two rolls seem much more attractive.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you everyone for your help. I did great other than the dice trying to kill me. 2 Scenarios down, though seriously looking forward to two weapon fighting. Twice the chances to miss!
