Hi all,

I couldn't seem to find a definitive answer in the forums/online but does the Psi Strikes feat work with ranged weapons? For instance, if my Psychic casts Shield and then uses a longbow to make a ranged attack, does that attack get the +1d6 force damage on a success?

Thanks for you help.

Hi all,

I have a Fighter/Eldritch Archer with Sorcery FA. Let's say I chose to use a sorcery spell slot to cast Shocking Grasp with my Eldritch Shot ability. My reading is that the use of Shocking Grasp in this scenario doesn't trigger Dangerous Sorcery and thus I don't add extra damage should my Eldritch Shot it because the cast a spell action is a subordinate action of Eldritch Shot. Is this correct?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi all,

Let's say I have an Int-based Elf Psychic who took Otherwordly Magic to get Produce Flame. At level 2, the Psychic takes Ancestral Mind.

Does Produce Flame effectively turn into a Psi Cantrip via Ancestral Mind? Or does Ancestral Mind just make the Produce Flame an Occult spell with which I can use Int as the casting stat instead of Cha?

Thanks for your help.

Hi all,

I have a battledancer swashbuckler close to leveling to 10. I'm having a hard time understanding what Derring Do applies to.

I understand that it applies to Tumble Through and Performance checks when I use Fascinating Performance. I assume it applies to Performance checks when I use Leading Dance too (although I'm not even sure this is true). What I'm wondering is does it apply to any Performance check I make? The parenthetical "...any skill actions listed in your swashbuckler's style" makes me wonder.

I guess what I'm wondering is what is the range of actions Derring Do applies to.

Thanks for your help.

Hi all,

I'm putting together a character for a new campaign. He's a human with an 8 Intelligence (I'm using voluntary flaws for backstory reasons). I've never played such a low INT character so I'm not sure if he starts with 2 languages or just 1 language. Here's my reasoning for each possibility. What do you all think is the correct interpretation of the rules.

2 Languages - under the Human ancestry entry it states Humans start with Common and "Additional languages equal to 1 + your Intelligence modifier (if it's positive)" Since my mod isn't positive, I don't add the -1 modifier from my 8 INT and thus I get the "Additional language equal to 1"

1 language - The "+ your Intelligence modifier" takes precedent over the parenthetical which means my -1 modifier does negate the additional 1 language

As I think about it more, I believe the 2 languages reading is correct because otherwise I'd have to completely ignore the modifying phrase "if it's positive". But my GM can have strange reasonings at times and I want more than my word and a reading that benefits me to back me up.

What is the wisdom of the boards?

Hi all,

I plan on playing a Starlit Span Magus and am looking at Expansive Spellstrike as my 2nd level feat which opens up some nice cone and line AEO spells. With that said, does the feat allow me choose the direction of the cone/line (e.g. sideways/backwards wrt to the target of my Strike) or must it always move "away from me" (i.e. direction is unaffected just the origin point is the target of my Strike as opposed to me)?

Basically, I'm wondering if the following clause "if you're not adjacent to the target (using a reach weapon or starlit span, for example), choose any square adjacent to the target as the source" allows me to choose the directionality of my cones/lines?

Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom.

Hi Boards,

Imagine I have a Starlit Span Magus with a wizard dedication via the free archetype rules ('cause my GM is awesome that way). And let's say that at level 10, I'm thinking of taking Advanced Arcana for Bespell Weapon. So here's my question:

Does the non-cantrip spell I cast via Spellstrike serve as an appropriate trigger for Bespell Weapon?

I think the answer is no because the cast a spell action is a subordinate action of spellstrike.

But on the off chance that the answer is yes, do I get the extra damage from bespell weapon on the spellstrike itself or just on a normal strike I make before the end of my turn (which admittedly would be a -10 MAP).

Thanks for your help!

Hi all,

If I'm a bard that has both Cooperative Nature and Inspire Competence does that mean I get a +4 to my Performance check to Aid?

Also what, if any, interaction is their between Cooperative Soul and Inspire Courage? Let's say I'm not an expert in Athletics but am an expert in Performance. Can I apply Inspire Courage to use Performance in place of Athletics to Aid an ally in tripping?

Many thanks for your help

Because the Rogue Dedication feat doesn't allow you take a racket, that means if I take Basic Trickery I can't take feats that have Racket prereqs like Brutal Beating or Unbalancing Blow. Is that correct?

Hi all,

I'm trying to think of all the ways an Eldritch Archer can increase the cantrips he knows past the 1 he gets from the dedication.

Let's assume the base is an elf fighter. So there are Ancestry feats like Otherworldly Magic or even Elemental Wrath.

Short of taking the taking the Basic Eldritch Archer Spellcasting feat, or another spellcasting archetype, are there other ways?

Can I use the Learn a Spell action to add new cantrips to my repertoire? I think I can but am not sure.

Thanks

Hi all,

I'm intrigued by the Oracle class because being racked with unwanted power sounds like it would be fun to RP. With that said, I don't want to gimp my character because I don't know what the f%@! I'm doing (I normally play martials). I'm interested in the battle mystery and ancestor mysteries but don't know what to prioritize and where to "take" the character build-wise. Can y'all help me out?

Many thanks!

Hi all,

The monk has a number of stances that say while you're in that stance, the only Strikes you can make are that stance's unarmed strike (e.g. Crane Stance, Mountain Stance, Stumbling Stance). The exact wording of the clause is "The only Strikes you can make are [stance's strike] unarmed attacks."

I'm wondering if I can use feats like One-Inch Punch or Disrupt Ki while in one of these restrictive stances? I think I can but am not totally sure. What say you all?

Thanks in advance for you help.

Hi all,

I normally don't play casters so am having a hard time understanding what kinds of spells I can cast from a wand if I'm a fighter with a sorcerer dedication.

Here's the set up:

Level 8 Fighter with Sorcerer MCD (bloodline gives access to Arcane spell list) and has taken the Basic Sorcerer Spellcasting feat. I've selected True Strike (lvl 1), Blur (lvl 2) and Haste (lvl 3) as the three spells in my repertoire.

Let's assume that I find a wand of Resist Energy (lvl 2 arcane spell). I believe I can cast this spell from the wand because a) it's on the arcane spell list and b) it's lower than the highest level arcane spell I can cast. Although please let me know if I've gotten this wrong.

Now let's assume I find a wand of Fly (lvl 4 arcane spell). Using the wand can I cast Fly? It's on the arcane spell list but higher than the highest level arcane spell I can cast. If I can use the wand to cast Fly, is there anything extra I need to do?

Many many thanks for your help.

Hi all,

Need some advice. I'm planning out feat progression for my lvl 2 lizardfolk monk with sorcerer dedication (Detect Magic and Electric Arc are the cantrips)

Stats are Str 16 Dex 14 Con 14 Int 8 Wis 12 Cha 14

At level 3 I get a general feat and was thinking about Shield Block because there's no room in my build for Stand Still on other reactions so I thought Shield Block might be something to explore. But then realized that with my 8 in Int, it might be rough succeeding on repair checks to fix the shield and so I'd likely get Assurance Craft at 4

So my question for you all: is investment in Shield Block (and likely Assurance Craft) worth it for the reaction and the up to 9 HP it'll save me per fight?

Btw, I say up to 9 HP as I'm a smart enough player to know when NOT to absorb HP so that I don't go passed the shield's BT so that I'm able to retain the passive AC bonus I get from it when I use the raise shield action. Caveats to this general strategy will apply such as going past BT to keep me from going down, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi all,

Monastic Weaponry has a clause that says "You can use melee monk weapons with any of your monk feats or monk abilities that normally require unarmed attacks, though not if the feat or ability requires you to use a single specific type of attack, such as Crane Stance."

I understand this allows me to Flurry with a bo staff for instance. But I can't figure out if I can Disrupt Ki or deliver a Shattering Strike with the forementioned bo staff.

I'm hoping the wisdom of the boards will provide some enlightenment.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

I need the wisdom of the boards (again) because I'm torn between two options: choosing Wholeness of Body (WoB) for a defensive ki option or choosing Perfect Strike (PS) for an offensive option.

Here's the situation: My lvl 5 tiger stance monk has an 18 Dex, 16 Wis, has Battle Medicine, Godless Healing, and Assurance (Medicine) so can guarantee herself 2d8+5 HP during a fight. And she's taken Student of Perfection Dedication.

Thinking ahead to level 6, she can take WoB which, at lvl6, allows her to restore 16 HP, or perhaps more importantly (?), allows her to try to counteract a disease or poison affliction during battle.

Or she can take PS which would allow her to reroll a missed unarmed strike.

Other Ki powers she has is Ki Rush (which I use surprisingly often) and Ki strike.

So what are your thoughts WoB or PS?

Hi all,

At level 4, my monk will take the Student of Perfection Dedication and with this raise Athletics to Expert. I was also thinking of taking Assurance (Athletics) at the level 4 skill feat. I've read a number of posts about its utility as 3rd action Trip without MAP. I'm definitely interested in going this route but most of those posts are theory-craft so I was wondering if anyone has any actual gameplay experience with Assurance (Athletics). What do you think of its utility? Is it as useful as you had imagined?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi all,

Let's say I have a monk who's given handwraps that are etched (stitched?) with the grievous weapon property rune. And let's also say said monk does NOT have the Brawling Focus feat. Does the grievous rune grant my monk the critical specialization when I crit with an unarmed attack even though I don't have Brawling Focus?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi all,

Some background:
Normally when you attempt to Demoralize a target, if it doesn't understand the language you're speaking, you’re not speaking a language (i.e. roaring or yelling incoherently), or it can’t hear you, you take a –4 circumstance penalty to your check to demoralize it.

Intimidating Glare allows you to demoralize with a look, so when you demoralize this way, you don't take the -4 penalty to your check if your target doesn't understand your language. Mechanically Demoralize loses the auditory trait and gains the visual trait when you demoralize this way.

Battle Cry allows you to attempt to demoralize an observed foe when you roll initiative.

My question is, if I have both Intimidating Glare and Battle Cry, I don't take the -4 penalty with Battle Cry if my target doesn't understand my language, correct? In other words, is the "you can yell a mighty battle cry" portion of the Battle Cry description essentially turned into flavor text if you also have Intimidating Glare?

I think this is the way they interact but wanted to check the wisdom of the boards.
