My gaming day started after work.

...a nerve-wracking bank to bank running-mother-lode-node with 65 Tier2 recipes/maneuvers/spells

...Got on mumble and joined a philosophical discussion on alignment in MMOs vs tabletop vs real world where there were vast difference in opinion yet not one raised voice

...then a discussion about building a settlement from the ground up

...then listening in on an in-depth economics PFU lecture that turned into a discussion on holdings and outposts

...all the while running an exploring toon around hunting escalation levels in the non-claimed home hexes for the token rush Thursday (Friday?)

...then doing the running-simulation thing to a depleted home hex to join the last battle. The Moloch General went down quickly, but I had moved into an area where the evasion utility led me to fall down one of those unGodly mesas where getting back into the battle was not going to happen. So I just tried to target any mob that my fellow partymates kited into my range. I was able to help with two of the remaining. Looked in inventory to see two blue items and a purple item: Redouble, Death Ward, and Intense Crystal +3 recipe.

Fun times.

Then ran to another hex and in 35 minutes of escalation hunting my toon pulled in 4 tier 2 recipes.

Is the above worth a fifteen-dollar-a-month subscription in an unfinished game? To me it was worth fifteen dollars just that night, but wasn't much different in "fun" than any other night until...

...it all was drowned out by what happened near the end of my game night leading to more joy than all of the above combined. I had found a hex that was at its end and called out for anyone who wanted to help finish it off. It was low level (but hey the boss was already there so why not?). One university student whose toon in her words was only "three or four hours old" ran out from the starter town. We came up on the boss and saw where they had a gaggle of archers and I worried that she would become a human pincushion and lose whatever maneuver that popped, so the strategy was for her to shoot once and run and I would just sit there and hope to shoot the ones chasing her. We managed that and when I got rid of the archers I asked, "I got Rush, what maneuver did you get"?...

Augment

BOOM!

*and so he obliged, and this single is the newbie edit and didn't have to be marked Explicit*

I was working part time on Dreamless time
My boss was Master Xander
He told me several times that he didn't like my kind
'Cause I'd gathered too leisurely

Seems that I was busy doing some node gathering
But different than the day before
That's when I saw her, ooh, I saw her
She walked in through the spawn door, spawn door

She wore a Purple Sobriquet
The kind you find in E E 4
Purple Sobriquet
I knew I wouldn't wear T2 chain much more
Purple Sobriquet
I think I loathe her

Built like she was
I had the nerve to ask her
If she planned to do me any harm
So, look here
I left all the loot from my husk
And I went running
Down by ghost town Terra Firm

I said now, a gazillion mobs never turned me on
But something about the spells and her mixed
Shhheeeeeee wasn't to bright
But I could tell when she conked me
She knew how to give her conks

She wore a Purple Sobriquet
The kind you find in E E 4
Purple Sobriquet
Throw that longbow plus three out the door
Purple Sobriquet
I think I loathe her

Was screaming through the local barn
And the horses wonder who you are
Her stun spell drowns out what I can see
You feel like you're seeing stars

Listen
They say the first time ain't the greatest
But I tell ya
If I had the chance to do it all again
I wouldn't change a thing
'Cause baby I'm the fastest
With an ogre as deadly as she was then

The kind you find
The kind you find
Oh no no
Purple Sobriquet
And if it was warm
Where have all the regular spawns gone?
Yeah Purple Sobriquet

I think I, I think I, I think I loathe her

No no no
No no no
In E E 4
Purple Sobriquet
Tell me
Where have all the regular mobs gone?
And if it was EE3 there wouldn't be as many more
Purple Sobriquet

Despergobbo,
why don't you come to your senses?
You been loit'ring town fences for so long now
Oh, you're a sly one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the Queen of Thornguards, boy
She'll cleave you if she's able
You know bandit recruits are always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some piles of trash
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Despergobbo,
oh, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, send you to our home
And screamin', oh screamin', that's just red-shirts dyin'
Club-wielding newbs walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter rime?
The snow won't slow your breedin' time
It's hard to tell the male gobs from females
You're losin' so many gobbos
Ain't it funny how they never go awaaaaay?

Despergobbo,
why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from our fences, we'll open the gates
It may be rainin', but we'll put a roof up above you
If you'd let somebody loot you
{Let somebody loo--ooot you}
You better let somebody loot you
before it's too-oo-ooo-oo late

WHO: Dreamless - An Independent Resource Company - "We don't sleep until we provide you with the resources you need."

WHAT: We are True Neutral - We provide resources to your door for recipes, items, (eventually) training, and silver. Obviously you can come get them for a better price. We have T2 gatherers in all four resources and always looking for help there. We have some of the refining and crafting classes covered, mainly right now to provide melee and ranged Weapons and armor to our guards. We seek to establish more of these and the rest of the crafting/Refining list. We are a PvE group who hunts escalations and gathers while out. We usually have a gatherer go out with us as a "mobile bank" to store our goodies as we hunt so no running back to town when that T2 recipe pops in your backpack. We very rarely go out JUST to gather unless we have two orders at same time and a deadline. We PvP when guarding shipments (which happened yesterday to a couple "unfortunate" ambushers who saw what they thought was a lone target). We have been ambushed successfully too in PvP. Our company lists 12 members and we have at least that many unlisted for delivery anonymity. We have full members and we have sub-contractors. Chances are you (or your settlement) have dealt with us.

WHERE: We are independent and thus not attached to a settlement. We have purchased and (will) have small holdings in several areas around the entire map.

WHEN: We are mostly US, but some of our members have work schedules that have them playing at non-US prime times thus we have pretty good coverage.

WHY: We provide a "family-type" atmosphere for gaming in a persistent world. We make gathering "fun" by meshing it within PvE AND then the PvP of transporting goods. If you don't get excited carrying
or guarding a resource load with a worth in gold pieces and making a ten hex dash through the wildness of the River Kingdoms then that's okay. We understand you don't want the hassle of doing the above and thus would like us to provide that service for you.

HOW: Contact Xander ingame or coach on paizo forums for a) joining or; b) sub-contracting; or c) placing orders for delivered shipments. You can join us and AND still join a settlement either at the same time or later when you find one that suits your needs. We will try to establish a settlement ingame (Which may mean a "new" settlement or "joining" a "dead' settlement and reviving it) if GW will allow as we were huge backers in the Tech Demo Kickstarter and Crowdforger Guild in the last Kickstarter and have purchased several small holdings. During the Land Rush, I personally was in a very tragic fitness training accident that led Humpty Dumpty to be jealous of my jigsawed left and right scapulas, and thus we missed out on settlement stuff which with a four-digit $ investment was ...ummm... unfortunate *grim smile*. But this company, which set the resource market on one SWG server of tens of thousands, is here to stay and is looking for new members.

Lastly, we own the rights to a VERY intriguing domain URL and will hope to put all of our company information on that soon

*on signs posted in all River Kingdom towns*

Motto - "We don't sleep until we provide you the resources you need."

alternate motto - "If we can't get it, it doesn't exist."

Dreamless is celebrating their GRAND OPENING with an auction:

#1 - an auction sale of 1000 coal DELIVERED to the highest bidder

please PM your bids as we don't really want folks to know where we are delivering 1000 coal (talk about walking nodes lol)

minimum bid is 15cp per unit delivered, buyout price is 22cp per unit delivered, recipes can be taken in lieu of a portion of the payment based upon a pricelist - auction ends 02/17/2014 at server downtime - Dreamless reserves the right to sell in lesser quantity being as though we don't know being the first auction if this is TOO BIG an order

next auction or outright sale will be 100 lodestone or 200 gems

post here resources you would like to see gathered, we have tier 2 in all 4 categories

------------------------------------------------------------------------
in the land of encouraging the formation of Wal-Mart vs Microsoft vs Google, we will strive to remain a mom-n-pop five-and-dime neutral trading company

we believe we could be viable with a working Auction House but that is not to be (as of this time) so we have to goto the forums

if PvE and gathering/refining/crafting is up your alley and you too want to shop in the downtown areas and join us, send me a PM

Re: a toggle - There kinda is one. You just trash what you don't want, and gather full encumbrance loads of T1.
Which does, however, deplete the resources in the hex, even if not taken. Those of us that are conscious of diminishing resources shudder at the thought. And it doesn't help with the time consumption. Going from two of an essence in every node to one of that essence in every node still means that you have to find twice as many nodes, even if you aren't taking the extra material.

it does deplete a hex, which is why it is important to move around. But you gather faster as you rank up, and get more mats of all types as you rank up, so I think the real 'problem' here is stopping at rank 7.

I do not want to see gathering optimized for min-max or 'spendthrift' builds.

thanks guys

that makes me understand the reasoning behind it a little better

i did go out with him last night and gathered in about 20 hexes

mostly the same but a couple i wasn't getting many T2 if any

and it seems that it doesn't affect some mats as much as others

20 hexes and one night and 4 hours is not a big enough sample size, so i will keep at it

that's right savage, i will not train after midnight anymore LOL

oh and another late night too-tired thing is the scrolling Circle button is a couple millimeters away from the "TRAIN" button ... that happened to me too but it was Bluff 1XP so no biggie but WOW THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A HUGE mistake rofl

so maybe GW can move the scrolling circle to the left side of the training pages like it is on other screens OR institute a "Are you sure" second screen

Atheory, you would have LOVED playing in Neverwinter Nights ALFA server ... it was permadeath

My PC lived 3 real life years and was an 11th level cleric of Tiamat

you played like you would if YOU were the character and not just some random pixels that could respawn

so we want to talk about how this game is grouping, play a permadeath NWN server and solo was asking for trouble

you just didn't stroll into a cave "to see what was in there" LOL

hopefully GW will because Keywords are currently frustrating at best and a thesaurus is all that would be needed for more words to bring across what they are saying
I'm givin' 'er all she's got cap'n! The thesaurus only has so many words and I've used all the cool ones already! :)
Wait until someone has to localize the keyword system into another language! Some languages have a lot fewer synonyms than English.

LOL x2 at Karl and Stephen!

@ KarlBob i didn't even think about the keyword issues when you put other languages in

@ Stephen and i understand the coolness rating HAS to be factored in *grin* it's just that perhaps to alleviate confusion with the keywords/combat mods overlap in Karls example below:

KarlBob wrote:
Perhaps not the best example, because while Precise and Penetrating can be used as Keywords, they're also the names of combat modifiers.

...could make it a "no-no" to overlap same words across differing game mechanics (so in above ... PRECISE combat mod and ACCURATE keyword and PENETRATING combat mod and PUNCTURING keyword)

what they are changed too not as important as just changing them to not overlap IMHO

that said, i like complex games and i love PFO's system in place

just trying to help

P.S. ... i still think sharpening the editing on the ToolTips, while tedious work, would make things SO much cleaner and allevite some confusion

Great place to start, as well. It will walk you around the starter town and give you lots of useful info about what the different feat types do.

It's received a fair few compliments, so I guess I did something right with it :)

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DELETE YOUR FIRST CHARACTER! The only possible way you can screw up your first character is by deleting it. So don't do it! Period.

Already did a fast read through that Morgan, and on the second time through now going more slowly trying to let it all sink in

it is an excellent resource

we have all our DTs set up and locked in and i threatened em with removing their gaming computers from their life if they ever touch the DELETE, CREATE, or SET TRAINING buttons on the entry screen :-0

Druid/wizard would probably nail the concept with the familiar/animal, but druids probably a ways away

I figure some of the other classes/roles not in game will probably be held for OE for a boost to help with the inevitable concerns over new players who think they'll be behind

So a few 'new' roles at that time can be advertised as everyone being on equal footing even though we know that you can catch up fast in this format, it'll still help in recruiting

But maybe some'll be in quicker? Hopefully Druid is one of the first

River Kingdoms with no Rangers and Druids seems missing something

I hate a sandbox where everything is predictable and stable .... It aint a sandbox ...

i agree

loved SWG resource shuffling ... and that was my credit-maker ingame (the equivalent in PFO would be Gatherer:Miner)

there were entire websites developed just to mark resource shifts

and resource quality changed also

it also "makes sense" in that mines do dry up

with such a small playerbase, and with that small playerbase being grown in small increments...

would it be too much to ask to have naming conventions for characters (and guilds)?

such as

1) Capital first letter followed by lowercase letters for both first and last name
2) No special characters (only ' and -)
3) No immersion breaking names
4) No vulgur (or implied vulgur) names
5) No names with a play on words
etc
etc

these could be moderated (whether by human or by AI) naming with accepted/declined upon character creation with a fantasy name generator for a guide

and guild names moderated also

I for one would love to log on and not see:

"PLAYERS ONLINE: Yo_Momma, ManBeast, Da$#!+, Ben Dover, U-my-%&*%# , etc

And I would also not want to have to hire the OneDayKillaz for an assassination contract.

ok, i think some are misreading my OP, and it's my fault for the way it's worded

i don't mind the soft opening strategy, i'm asking if the Kickstarter has them re-thinking of increasing the 4500 to say 15000, 20000, 25000 ... still INCREDIBLY small initial start that would still be defined as soft.

I'm not talking about a "taking my ball and going home" quitting attitude of the customer base

I'm not talking about having an unlimited opening number

I'm talking about:

"we formed this 50-member guild and 11 got in month one, 6 got in month two, 4 got in month three, 10 got in month 4, 6 got in month five (including the leader who chartered the guild, bought the website where the guild hosts their meetings, and got everything organized), and after five months 13 members still are not invited."

That is the situation that will happen in my opinion. I think that the word will get out about the style of this MMO. Roleplayers are tired of the "hey let's log on and go on a raid". style of playing. The RP community wants their own style of MMO, and I just asked if GW/Paizo may rethink their math because they were overwhelmed by the kickstarter (I think the spokesmen used the word "humbled"). I think that the number of players (both initial and at the year and 3-year marks for this MMO could be 10X the number that GW/Paizo is throwing around in their head.

In the situation above for the guild, the guild members and even guild leaders are getting invites off and on and trying to live vicariously perhaps on their guild forums through the ones actually getting in. Just can't be a good situation and the guild could break up before it ever starts. Griefing is one of the major reasons MMO's lose their customers, and it's own math has GW/Paizo sort of mini-griefing it's own membership unintentionally.

so i'm asking is their a larger number of invitees per month that can be handled, yet still keep their beta (yet-not-beta) "soft" style opening?

a guild that trickles in over a 7 month stretch and still not everyone in VS a guild that maybe EVERYBODY is in by month 3 ... has a MUCH greater chance of making the months (years?) of guild planning worth it and GW/Paizo has a much greater chance of keeping customers who are a part of player communities. IF you (I'm a teacher/coach IRL and have studied this extensively) do ANY kind of research on high-school dropouts, you'll find that the only reason (that is quantifiable and able to be correlated) kids stay in school is because of extra-curricular involvement. If GW/Paizo wants a strong playerbase that won't "drop out" ... strong player groups are the key ingredient.

The member who does get in has a OOC choice. Do I leave the guild that I have worked with for months (years?) and join this new guild formed by the merging of 3 other guilds that broke apart due to a substantial numbers of its members/leaders not getting invites? Or do I hold on and hope that the original guild still holds its structure even when more than half the guild isn't in game?

To make a long story short (too late!!!) I love what GW/Paizo is doing. I've read EVERY blog/website entry on their project. I want an MMORPG, not another MMO, which it seems like is their goal too and I cant wait. I've put my money where my mouth is. This is one of my main concerns.
