"Gah. I'm an idiot." the elven mage growls at himself. "Fire, obviously. They're made of wood. Fire would work best...good call, guys." This last he says for the others to hear before casting another Elemental Ray cantrip, this time, however, he summons fire.

A short burst of flame erupts from Xynalthras' fingertips, aimed at one of the dangerous wooden dolls. Not sure which will still be up, so not claiming which one specifically

Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Fire Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

...but with all the chaos of the alchemy attack, the shot goes wide.

Xynl blinks in surprise and mutters, "This is why I hate dolls...so creepy!" He then targets a nearby doll and launches an elemental ray, summoning a short bolt of lightning.

Electrical Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

"Big. Nasty. Hornets." Xynl mutters before motioning down the hall, "When we get down there, I think there's some heiroglyphics on one of those shields. Perhaps it will shed more light on the situation in this tomb."

Beyond that, the elven mage remains in the room, allowing the catfolk rogue all the space and time he needs to search ahead...

Following from a safe distance, Xynlthras moves hesitantly down the stairs to the doorway of the chariot room. "It might be that we will need to disassemble it...though I personally have no skill in that arena."

Since Tribim is taking 20(24) on Perception, so will Xynl, though with a slightly different goal. He's looking for any sort of writing within or around the decorations, especially in Old Osirian.

It happens. So long as it's not when it's a Poison vs Death save, it's all good. lol

"Owww..frrrrgggh..." Xynl involuntarily spasms for a moment when one of the trap-darts hits him squarely in the ear. The elven mage lowers his head, grimacing in pain and moaning a bit.

Xynlthras shakes his head, as if to clear it, and raises his hand to his ear, and comes away with a bit of blood on his fingertips.

"Yeah...healing might be good, if we have it. Ow." he mutters.

Not just being overly dramatic to guilt ya, Tribim...the 5 pts is half his HP, so I figured it would be pretty rough on him. :D

Following, but not closely enough to interfere with the catfolk, Xynl examines the battle scenes along the walls for any hidden meaning.

As well as looking to see if there are oddities like are soldiers are all going one way, and things like that. Taking 10(14) on Perception for this.

I could carry the flasks, but have ways of dealing with swarms where others might not.

Also, totally agree with the part of that sixth share for group necessities. We used to have that also as a "raise dead" fund in our tabletop game, as we grew in levels, back in the day.

***Before going down***

Following Tribum's suggestion, Xynlthras moves his arm and draws his hawk nearer, speaking quietly to her, "Neferu, I have need of your services. We're going down below, and I need you to stay on watch up here for a bit, to come and warn us if trouble follows us."

When he finishes speaking, the elven mage concentrates as he'd been taught, pouring out his feelings and will, focusing on the ideas of keeping watch and warning of danger.

Confident that he's done the best he can, he nods to the bird and sets her down near the lip of the hole.

"Be vigilant, little miss."

Then he too will decend the rope with the others.

Athletics Check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Or let me know if he could have used acrobatics instead, because that adds 3

***Now***

Once down (if without incident), Xynlthras keeps more or less near the rope, partially out of caution, but mostly to stay out of the way of any investigation.

"I suppose it goes without saying that that man was likely the victim of a trap, no?" Xynl calls over to Epperson.

YBD, would it be reasonable/possible for Xynlthras to command his hawk to stay by the opening and to fly to try to find us if someone comes? Too much at 1st level?

Not sure that's allowed for a familiar, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Xynl would know, but I don't :D

Xynl arches an eyebrow, muttering to himself before stepping over to the open shaft. He draws a single copper piece from his pouch and holds it out between his thumb and forefinger. Concentrating, he summons his will and arcane energies, as he casts the cantrip "light" on the copper. "Shirak."

And then the elf tosses the coin down into the darkness. "Shortcut? Let's see."

Only when the group is roughly half-way through clearing the sand away from the entrance, a lone, robed elf strides carefully towards them, staff in his right hand. Though the temperature is warm, he wears a dark cloak with the hood drawn up to shade his face and eyes from the sun. He holds his left arm out at shoulder height, and a reasonably-sized hawk, his familiar “Neferu”, perches on a leather bracer at his wrist.

Grinning, he calls out, "Why good morning, fellow shadows. My apologies for my late arrival. I got up early this morning with naught but the best of intentions, to join you here for the initial start of our adventures. Alas, it was not to be."

"Twould seem I was destined to be distracted, almost by fate, as I stumbled upon a small fellow of rock gnome heritage, and he claimed to have the most interesting tale to tell about old Akhentepi here, and his tomb, and thus the two of us got lost in a discussion of the rumored dangers of the tomb before us and many of the threats which lie therein."

Xynlthras pauses a moment, blatantly ignoring any looks of irritation from his teammates, a mischievious gleem in his hazel eyes. Xynlthras continues on with his overly dramatic, and likely improvised story which pretty obviously serves as little more than his excuse to get out of the physical labor. "But sadly, there was, in the end, nothing of value to be found in that conversation. Over the course of our discussion, as well as a few glasses of ale, it soon became clear that HE was describing Akhentep-o the third, a minor lordling who was well known in his time as the owner of a pack of rather viscious fighting dogs who spent his time far to the south of here rather than the object of OUR quest, and the owner of this tomb, Akhentepi. And so you see, I am late, but with good reason..."

Another pause as the elf glances about, giving Tribim a wink and offering in the Catfolk's native tongue, "You think they bought that? Probably not, eh?

Anything known specifically about Akhentepi?

So...delays happened. Mistakes were made. But character-ing happened.
In short, I'm here. :D No foreseeable OT in the future that should get in the way. (crossing fingers)
