![]() This is my opinion and the opinions of others I have either invited to the game or tried to invite to the game. Try to read this and be open to it. Once someone can come to terms with a mindset, only then can they move forward and improve. I know this myself, and have come to accept things I did not like. Look at it from another perspective and see the merits. Its not an easy thing to do, but everyone can do it. Graphics - I know, MVP. When settlements are deployed, I would suggest that this becomes the highest priority for the game. Fix bugs during EE, but an army of graphics experts needs to get to work. I have had way too many people turn down or not even accept an alpha invite because of graphics alone. The comments were something like "What is this the year 2000?" or "What is that smegma?" or "What are they doing, there are tons of Unity games coming out that look 10 times better." I know you guys have worked hard on it. Keep going, you can get it done!!! Personally, I do not care. If the game plays well, I can ignore the look. Too many people cannot, and most of them would play for a couple years. Think about it, and admit that this needs to be done. Recruit a team of contractors for this. They do not need to be permanent employees. I know you already have people working on this, but get them help to get the job done. (easier said then done expense wise, but you can figure out a way) Achievements - This is not supposed to be a grind game. For the people who go out and farm NPC's on a daily basis, it will not be. Only because they grind by choice. As a sandbox game, there needs to be ways of not being required to grind. I have already been stopped in advancement multiple times because I did not have enough kills with specific weapons. I know what the point is... to keep people from logging off for six months then coming back and spending tons of xp. Guess what, they paid for that xp, they paid for their character to advance. There is no good reason to stop that unless GW does not want to get paid. The people who would do this, log off for six months then come back, will not keep their account active and will not likely return to the game. Eve has a massive number of people who return to the game because their characters keep training for six months. They have something invested and come back to the game because of it. If GW keeps with the mindset of "We dont want them to come back Uber" then you will not have the success you are striving for. That is part of that Eve model that has made them so successful. Classes - Sure, the preferred term is Role. It is still a class. This is a class based game. I must increase my class to increase my character. The Role is the feature and armor feats I equip. Just admit that it is a class based skill game and we can move on. It is what it is, and I can live with it. Stop trying to change the meaning of things. Or people will consider those in charge as dirty salesmen and stay away. PVP - This is always a heated issue. People come to games like this was sold as to have fun with PVP. If you limit character growth because they PVP, then you will lose those people. I am not talking about actual griefing or scamming. Prevent that, all good. As said before, and I agree with, you cannot prevent griefing with a mechanic. What you also do not need to do is punish people for doing what you allow them to do. Put in the islands of non punished PVP. Make these areas the most valuable hexes in the game. Do this on top of what is already planned. People will absolutely risk pvp to get the good stuff. This was touted as a PVP sandbox game, anyone who signed up for it knows that, even the PVP haters. Crafting and Drops - Allow people to make the basic equipment, but do not require it. All monsters in game should have a NON-Diminishing chance to drop basic equipment. Let people focus on crafting the high end stuff, like T2 and T3. Diversify what mobs drop, ie Bandits drop leather armor and short bows, goblins drop short swords and spears, Orge's drop clubs and great swords... etc etc (that is just an example that should be expanded upon). I know the point of a player economy. Players drive the economy, and they should. I have no problems with that, but... Basic equipment should be dropped in high numbers for an extended period of time by every mob, then turned down. Jam the market with basic equipment then dial it back. People should not be required to spend countless hours crafting the stuff they need to play their characters. For instance, I have yet to find a single handed sword that is not a short sword. If I was playing a sword and board based fighter, I would be pretty upset. Allow a Focus - As a sandbox game, I should be able to choose a path I want my character to advance. If I choose to play a fighter, and do not want to craft or gather what so ever. There is no reason I should spend over a months worth of my xp on crafting skills in a years worth of play. (see Cheatle's breakdown in the 4.5 year capstone thread). I can agree to forcing diversity within a class. If I need to take different weapon feats for weapons I do not plan to use, I can understand that. I am playing a fighter after all. Not crafting or gathering on a particular character is a meaningful choice. Forcing me to take the skills that are not part of that class is not. Some may not like what I have stated. I do not want the game to fall on its face. There is tons of potential here and I think it can soar. The choices are yours. @GW Leadership - Remember that you are the face of GW and Pathfinder. Telling potential customers that you do not like them or ending rants with SMDH can be seen by everyone. I know I am not a great model for social policy, but I am also not speaking for a company trying to recruit customers. I have one friend who said she will not be coming to the game because of this alone (her opinion is that the crowdforging will be a joke because of this). I had her in alpha, and she is a Pathfinder supporter (Plays many sessions at GenCon every year). My guess is that this will be ignored due to the last statement alone. I urge you to take the criticism to heart and build on it. You can succeed. ![]()
![]() In Pathfinder TT, as any class, when you buy a weapon feat it is then tied to your class. I propose that Pathfinder Online become mechanically similar to this. When you buy weapon feats, the use of those weapons are tied to any weapon achievement you need to increase your class. Currently, Using a long sword increases martial. Using a short increases subterfuge. The Change: Any weapon you have a feat for will give achievement points toward the feature you have equipped. The feature achievements will give you what you need to increase a class level. In TT, weapons do not grant you the ability to increase your class level. Currently in PFO, you are required to use specific weapons to increase your class. I know some of you will vote it down only because I proposed it. Try to think objectively. Please ![]()
![]() The Northern Coalition It is with great pleasure that the settlement of Aragon, together with the Empire of Xeilias and the settlement of Freevale, announces the creation of the Northern Coalition. Through this treaty, all signatories agree to a stance of non-aggression, of mutual good will, and of bilateral friendship. Though this treaty does not establish a true alliance, we hope that we can foster a culture of true cooperation between our three states, spreading that culture to any others that choose to join us. As the balance of power rushes south, those of us in the north grow concerned that we may be left with a void, one that could be filled with those elements of other competitive PVP games that we all find distasteful. It is our hope that we can act to remedy this situation by bringing together the most reasonable of our neighbors, building a community that acknowledges that spirit for what it's worth. Goblinworks' vision of meaningful human interaction tempered by positive player interaction is worth grabbing a hold of, and we intend to do so with both hands. Wars may rage around us, settlements may be razed, caravans looted by the dissident few, but we shall stand together through it all, united in our vision for the north. We invite any settlement looking to the north for a home to join us in this agreement. By communicating your interest you will establish diplomatic lines with our own envoys dedicated to negotiating a clear cut treaty, one in which all members know exactly where they stand with each other. Though we cannot assure your safety in the wilderness of the River Kingdoms, only you yourself can do that, we can assure you that you will find no quarrel with your new found friends. Aragon Statement: Although there will be conflicts, and a whole lot of them, these will be within the context of meaningful interactions. It is also believed and intended that those meaningful interactions will be grounded in the conflicts caused by scarcity of resources, including settlement hexes, more often than not.. While this alliance may be of the simplest form of a non aggression pact, it can also evolve into a more layered and complex alliance ensuring mutual benefit and mutual defense. However, there will always be the ever present self interest that may either support such bonds of alliance or shatter those bonds. It is understood that it takes great effort to maintain such alliances, but it is believed that this will prove to be well worth the effort. Whether in cooperation or conflict, it is understood that meaningful interactions are the goal. The Northern Coalition will be a regional body. In this region we hope to create the sense that there is a certain level of realism or believability. Where there will be times of peace, with an ever looming possibility of conflict. Where people can go about their business but at a moments notice will answer the call if needed. In the end, we are making stories that can be retold and thus make the culture of PFO even more appealing to the casual passerby. If meaningful interactions mean anything, they minimally must make others want to participate in them Xeilias Statement: The Empire of Xeilias is a joint effort of nation level cooperation between the leadership of Golgotha (Operating CC Pax Golgotha) and Callambea (Operating CC Pax Aeternum). Our friends in Golgotha are the separate entities of Maelstrom, House Karnath (formerly Crimson Guard), and The Bloody Hand. During the prelaunch phase of Pathfinder Online, we have forged lasting friendships through Golgotha's addition to the Pax Gaming Community, and the games we have played together as we anticipate Early Enrollment. Our empire is based on structure, solidarity, and partnership with our signatories. We have recently lost our more adamant good aligned players, and as such have refocused our goals slightly. Our vision moving forward is a focus on a Lawful Evil empire, providing a place where potential settlements, companies, unaffiliated citizens, and members can experience the game in a large expansionist setting. Whether you wish to ply your goods in safety, or charge the battlefield along side us, our borders are welcome to you. We are a collection of savvy merchants, professional assassins, trusted mercenaries, and brutal soldiers. The leadership of Xeilias believes in the benefit of proactive player versus player content in all of it's forms. While taking such a stand often creates heated emotions, our goal is to provide this while maintaining an ideal of good sportsmanship. There can be no shining light without the dark, and no one benefits from a false foil. Towards this regard we are dedicated to this agreement in the hopes that it will provide an area of the map that allows the freedom of play for Chaotic, Evil, and Neutral players towards proactive player versus player conflict while encouraging and fostering growing friendships. Freevale Statement: The Settlement of Freevale sees the value in the Northern Coalition and we are excited to participate in the treaty. Our citizens have varying degrees of interest in activities like PvP, crafting and trading. Freedom to play the game the way we want is one area in which we do not diverge. We enter into this agreement based on that shared principal with the other signatories. Freevale intends to establish relations and trade with as much of the map as possible. Step one begins at home. ![]()
![]() I know we have had several discussions on the PFO TS Server. Its time to get our topic posted and on target. I will copy paste some of my previous posts to get us rolling. Please argue away, and this is a rated R thread... LOL The Factional warfare system is meaningless PVP. In its current known state. Fighting for NPC's with a cause that does nothing in the game is meaningless to human interacion. The NPC factions are not going to conquer PC territory. Sure the NPC's will have towns of their own but I doubt we can conquer those. Sign up for as many factions as you can just so you can PVP with as many people as you can. There is no point other then the PVP itself. Kinda meaningless other then for RP reasons, which I can think of many legitimate RP reasons that are more meaningful but you will still suffer the consequences. Just as bad as RvB. Lhan wrote: I'm also somewhat puzzled by the idea that faction PvP is now all of a sudden "meaningless" PvP. People who have been advocating the right to attack all and sundry with free rein since they could justify it for RP reasons or simply because they might want what their victim was carrying are now complaining because there is an additional reason to attack, as if this somehow makes the whole interaction devoid of value. Mark me down as confused. Well, for me anyway, It really isnt all of a sudden. I didnt post much in the blog that announced Faction PVP. Its not that Faction PVP is meaningless, its that it is not meaningful human interaction in the sense described as reasons to limit PVP in the first place. In my mind I dont find it any more meaningful then the open world pvp we already have. It just adds complications to the system. Dont misunderstand, I dont want the right to attack people free of reigns and slaughter all in front of me. We have games for that, mainly FPS type games. As for the RP arguments, they were directed at reputation. There should be RP reasons to PVP that leaves the consequences aside. Yes the Faction system does that, but it is not meaningful human interaction... In the end, what we really need is a full dev blog devoted to the Faction system that gives it meaning beyond what we already have. I know they were just announcing it, so we can give them the time they need to explain further. Which they have plenty of at this point. I have seen several games with Faction PVP. Eve, Warhammer, SWTOR, Rift, and others. Eve - Its something to do, mainly as a means to live in low sec space and PVP without losing security status and being shot by gate/station guns. Sure there is territory involved but it is only meaningful for grinding ISK. Which in the end is the main reason to join Faction warfare in Eve, to grind money. Warhammer - Dont know much about it, but its the premise of the game from my understanding. From what I read it is pretty boring. SWTOR - what a huge pointless system. Probably shouldnt even mention it based on how meaningless it is. The PVP is nothing more then you can get from a FPS, and the faction system is meaningless. Rift - Same as warhammer, dont know much about it. ![]()
![]() I have a person I am trying to add to my kickstarter buddy list. Torviodoya is his name. I have had no problem adding 4 others to my buddy list, and wanted to add one more to finish it off. For some reason whenever I put his name into the search bar, then click find, it just reloads the page. Any help would be great, if you can just force add him to the invites that would be great too. Thanks ![]()
![]() www.kickstarter.com/projects/747939120/starcraft-universe Are you kidding me? This company has made billions off the public in gaming. Other then WoW and Diablo 3 I have enjoyed their games, but to think they need to ask their customers to raise the money for a game that they already have done.... Im happy to support starter companies with new concepts, or a low level company that see the potential in expanding their services... Not a multi billion dollar company. ![]()
![]() Hey All, Have a question for these two. I know they will be in PFO, but will they be the exact setup from the books? I expect them to be similar, but do we know if they dungeons/town will be the exact same thing as is printed? May be worthwhile to pick them up to see what to expect in the beginning. ![]()
![]() Is there anyone out there that would be interested in selling/traiding a Crowdforge Pioneer Pack? I was looking around and couldnt find if it was forbidden by Goblinworks/Paizo. I am mainly interested in the Pathfinder Online stuff, but if you wanted to include the physical items as well I would be grateful. I have been out of the gaming world for about 8 months now... I have had a bad RL issue that took priority over everything else. I can elaborate if anyone is interested but most people dont want to hear these stories. If you do ask I will give links and etc. I again have gaming money to play with and wish I could have participated in the kickstarter. I love sandbox games, and played Eve for years. Fantasy games are my favorite though, and finally someone has the out-of-the-box thinking it takes to build an sandbox Fantasy. Message me or respond here and I will get to you asap. Thanks |
