Excellent show benevolent dictator! Thanks for running this encounter. This was fun and simple, makes me think I might want to try me hand at running one.

"Killing the summons makes the portal weaker, keep at it, I'm going to try something!" Xarol pulls one of his few remaining bombs and chucks it towards the still open portal.

Heave bomb into the portal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Eat fire whatever's on the opposite side! 1d6+7 if it hits something, or 8 splash damage. I only have one more bomb left, so hopefully this will do the trick.

Xarol snarles in pain at the bite. "Fumbles, get clear now!" he calls and takes a 5 foot step back to E7 and lobs another bomb near the rat.

tossing bomb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Spellcraft on portal: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Targeting the SE corner intersection of the rat's square. Same as usual, 8 splash damage, DC 16 for half. If fumbles would get clear I could actually start targeting creatures instead of going purely for splash damage!

Xarol realizes that there might be more enemies forthcoming "We have to guard Fumbles, or we won't get paid!"

He moves to F7 and then spends a standard action giving a potion of cure light wounds to fumbles. Healing: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

I know this will trigger AoOs from both the hyena and hawk. AC is 20 currently

Targeting the intersection of 7/8/F/G. AC of 5 to hit that intersection, and the adjacent squares take the splash damage of 8 (Hyenas at F7 and G7). Reflex DC of 16 for half

Aww darn, one higher on the Init and I'd be able to bomb the hyenas in a group.

Question: how strict are we going to be with initiative? Exact order, before and after enemies, or just post in general?

Really like the builds up so far! I had actually arrived at virtually an identical build for Xarol here as your mad bomber build. Have you made any necromancers yet?

I'd take a look at the Guide to the buffer bard. That is the most ludicrously effective assisting/buffing character I've yet seen in pathfinder.

If you're more interested in the aid another action specifically there are some prestige classes and class features that boost that, as well as some items. Combine those with bodyguard or some other way of generating actions and you can really help your allies.


Wait, necromancy is legal in society play? I didn't know that, that could make for fun times. How well does that work with alchemical zombies disallowed?


On the bomb damage, I hadn't actually thought about the utility side. Your status effect bombs and bombs that duplicate spells will still have those effects go off just fine!


That's an interesting approach. The bomb hit from reanimator really hurts, but I suppose that is a valid option, and it's definitely better than the discovery. Though the idea of animating bloody skeletons and implanting them with boneshard bombs is pretty awesome!


So I've been wanting to make an alchemist with lots of alchemical zombies. I looked over Brewer's excellent necromancy guide, but without access to desecrate or reasonable access to animate dead (maybe a samsaran could work around that?) it seems really hard. Discoveries can get you a basic zombie, and boneshard bombs can create regular skeletons... but those aren't exactly all that impressive. That and the cost to implant bombs in your creations is absolutely absurd, on top of destroying your expensive pets. Am I missing something?

Xarol moves 20 feet further (in a straight line to the narrow point), and drinks a cognatogen. "Careful, hold the line there, don't let them swarm us all!" He calls to min and Fire beard. "I just need the Gnolls to move up five more feet..."

Int now 22. What's the relevant knowledge check about Gnolls? I have a minimum +13 to every knowledge besides nobility.

Not to be picky but it's been two days. Can we puppet the others and just maybe say Wags starts a performance and moves 30 feet and Ronin double moves forward? Thanks for the map, once I noticed the letters for the names it makes great sense.
