Varis is excited to see the goblin in a precarious situation, as it makes his job just a little easier. He sheathes his sword, and takes a step back while firing the bow he still carried in his off-hand. With the goblin 'king' hanging dazed on the rope, he is able to focus his aim.

Move or Minor to put away his sword, don't remember which.
Standard, using Deft Strike to move to L4, attack 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 2 = 23 (counting CA).
On hit, 1d10 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (7) + 5 + (5, 6) = 23
Damage while climbing means he has to make another climb check or fall.

Varis uses his elven speed to step out of the dangerous terrain, and encircles it, even slogging his way through the thick webbing to get to Urgog. His concern grows at getting so close, this is not his usual method, standing face-to-face with the enemy. He hopes that the others will move in to once again surround the enemy. His hesitation shows with his swing, as it weakly swipes at the air beside the goblin.

I had edited twice, probably while you were putting together your post.

EDIT: lol, and then replied while you edited. Good volley, the ball is in your court, lol.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis has a tough decision, between the heavily injured spider, and the goblin. In the end, it is his somewhat protective stance towards the impetuous lass that helps his decision. He focuses the protective nature of his cloak to avoid harm, before leaping over the rough stones to land beside the creature.

Minor action, activate cloak, gain resist 5 to all damage until EOMNT.
Move action, Great Leap, 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Ugh, but since he's treated as having a running start, and only jumping 1 square (to J7), he's good.
Standard, Probing Strike 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 + 2 = 11 GRRRRRRR!!!! come on, double 1's! Why do dice hate for me to be strikers?

EDIT: forgot to try and make my save, let's see that 3rd 1 1d20 ⇒ 5

EDIT 2: Screw it, Action Point, Probing Strike again. 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 30, damage 1d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (1, 6) = 16

Varis, stumbles as he lands, causing his swing to go wide. In his anger he slashes wildly back at the large vermin, connecting at the thing's back as it faced Luce.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Sorry, I was looking and can't find it. Standing in the webs I'm in, is there a hindrance or a roll to avoid it? Also, I cannot shift in the red square, but I can shift out of it right?

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

No, it wasn't you, I thought I had it out when I attacked. You were right that I still had my bow, but I did the numbers for my sword but forgot I hadn't drawn it yet.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

I thought Varis was using his sword when he went melee, but he still had his bow due to action economy. This turn, he should have drawn his blade before he attacked, and used it.

Varis, sees the odd trap of sorts hanging above, "Beware of the nets above." He points with his weapon.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Relieved that Luce's move brought the goblin back into range, Varis strikes out again, using Kendall's pressure on the thing to get a vital strike in.

Probing Strike 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 26, damage 1d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + (2, 3) = 10

Varis hopes that the brief breather was enough to make him more successful in combat.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Being able to see the map, I realize I was moved the wrong direction. He had moved left. I put him where he should have ended last turn, in Q1.

Varis tires of firing ineffectually from the darkness, he decides to move in and use the support provided by the loud dwarf Kendall. He runs up to the edge of the room, leaping gracefully through the air, flipping once, before landing right behind the goblin 'king'. Drawing an arrow, he twists away from any possible swings, and fires.... somewhere off into the dark of the cavern.

Move action, first to N3 to begin leap, landing in L5.
Athletics for the Jump 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 - cleared the 1.5 sq
Acrobatics to avoid damage 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 - avoid up to 11 dmg
Free, activate bow, this attack will not provoke an OA.
Standard, Probing Strike on Urgog 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 2 = 12 vs AC, effect: gain a +1 to my next atk against him.
ARRRGH! So this is why Arakan has been rolling well, I hate being a striker that can't hit 80% of the time.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis uses the shadows he rests in to his best, firing from within the darkness. He is too focused on moving after the shot that he richochets an arrow off the side of the cliff's edge.

Standard, Deft Strike on Urgog 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 + 2 = 11.
Move, 7 sq left/diagonally to be against the wall (can't manipulate or see the top and bottom edges of the map at work), and he re-stealths. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

I just saw the discussion for ToH. I was wondering why you thought I was away. Regardless, I don't know if it changes anything, but I would have gone for the spider since it is dazed providing CA, and if it's providing CA I would get a +2. Don't worry about the roll Luce, have you seen what I tend to get? Rolling a 7 is decent as far as what it could have been in my hands.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Assuming when you said "Varis is fine", meant he is hidden?

Varis, as is typical, is beat to the punch by Luce. She once again rushes forward, and he hurries to introduce a new threat to take some focus off of her. He looses a shot in the direction of the ugly one leading them, hoping to reap confusion and sow fear in those that are near him. If he can just hit, it should throw them off balance at least a little. After the shot, he moves closer back toward the stairs, keeping to the outside edge within the darkness. As long as he has shadow, he can try to keep to the darkness.

Standard, Scattering Shot on Urgog 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 = 15 (CA included), if it hits damage 2d10 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (9, 6) + 5 + (5, 6) = 31. If it missed and I was hidden from the target, I do not expend the power.
Effect: Each enemy adjacent to the target takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls (save ends). In addition, each enemy adjacent to the target is pushed 1 sq away from the target.
Move, 3 sq toward the stairs (can't see map at work) and re-hide, Stealth 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

R1

Varis tucks himself as far back into the corner as he can, the darker the better, so he can let his eyes focus on sighting the enemy better.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Init 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20, anyone with less than 20 gets a +2 from me.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis considers Luce to be wasting her words. Asking a dwarf in armor to be quiet is like asking a wolf not to hunt, it's just not in their nature. He decides to take his usual lead, and better seperate himself from the clomp of cattle. He only levels a dead-eyed look of irritation back at the group before he dissappears a few paces ahead down the stairs.

Stealth 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Okay, if we are heading in, Varis will avoid both the rope and the webs and attempt to scale the wall from where he is.

Climb 1 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18, Climb 2 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16, with a double move he's 1 sq from the bottom.
He will drop the last 5', and do it all stealthily 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 to end in the corner directly below his spot up top.

Varis shoulders his bow before nimbly crawling over the ledge and making his way down the wall. He moves quickly and quietly dawn the side to drop at last in the dark corner down below.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Was waiting to see the answer to Vondal's question on whether we can see anything below or not. Otherwise, Varis will also delay until he has a visible target.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis creeps up to the edge, just off to the side of the webs.

P3

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis will be the last in, as from 40' feet he can lay down some fire, and with his athletics and speed he can catch up fast enough.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis waits, fingers on his bowstring, listening as they speak for the sign he needs to fire steel rain down into the hole at whatever may be coming up.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis smirks, slightly amused, "Getting in may not be an issue. What's down there right now waiting for us, may just come up to show us the way."

He points to the depths of the pit, assuming others can follow what he sees. He then steps back from the hole, and into a crouch, removing his silhouette from the edge of sight.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

Varis justs lets the others ramble as he takes in the whole scene. Possibly spider mounts? Maybe climbable webbing, with less of a sticky surface.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis moves close to the ground, walking in a sort of crouch as he inspects the scene. His eyes try to piece together each footprint he comes acroos, attempting to turn the puzzle into a picture.

Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 to Track

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis silently pops back up from out of the shadows of the brush. He moves to stand beside Luce, addressing the newcomer. "These aren't military procedures. We're locals defending our homes from predators."

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis would shoot. Prisoners are foreign to him, he shoots to kill, or the wolf will just come back. He's comfortable that between he and Luce they can track down the lair.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis glides through the brush, keeping to the cover it provides. He slips forward as he fires, driving an arrow clean through the goblin.

Move, 7, steathily 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Standard, Deft Strike, move two closer 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 2 + 2 = 24, damage 1d10 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (7) + 5 + (3, 4) = 19

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

With Varis' foot speed (7), and his range of 20 with his bow, he would also pursue.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis moves away from the nearest tree goblin, a little further into the brush, just before he shoots. His aim is solid, but the interposing foliage slows some of his arrow's momentum. He continues moving toward the next nearest tree goblin, seeing that hitting the elevated critters may prove difficult for the dwarven horseman.

Standard, Deft Strike G2, moving to O16 before the attack, 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 - 2 + 2 = 22 vs AC, damage 1d10 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (2, 3) = 11. Seriously? With a range of 8-27, and I get 10, and then 11. GRRR!
Move, to L18, then Stealth 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis takes aim from the cover of the brush, ignoring the goblins as mostly insignifigant, and shooting at the plant that won't let the poor singer go. After striking the thing hard, he moves closer to the goblin nearest the group, and tucks back into the underbrush, vanishing like a ghost.

Attack V1, Deft Strike 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 2 = 26, damage 1d10 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 5 + (3, 6) = 17
Move, P14, then hide Stealth 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis stalks quietly through the brush, settling in between two of the goblins, certain that they didn't even see him. Crouched in his new hide site, he takes in all his possible targets, and despite his urge to help poor Sigvard he settles on the other plant near Luce. The former is just too hard a target on the ground, and he has a bit of a soft spot for the heedless girl that runs forward into every fight.

Move, to N17 restealth via Cunning Sneak 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Shadow Strike on V2, 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 2 = 18 vs AC, damage 1d10 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 5 + (1, 1) = 10
Special: if hidden when he attacks, he can try to remain hidden afterward. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15, come on! why do I keep getting the lw digit stealths? If I start seeing Arakan's luck on the rolls I'm going to worry.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Sadly, no. Being allowed to shift only works if you are capable of making a shift. Forced movement of allies, however, is the bane of grapple monsters. A bard's Majestic Word, for example, heals and slides 1, therefore forcing the target out of the space.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis looks at shrugs at Kendall, "She does this a lot, you get used to it and adapt." he offers as a valid explanation. He darts forward and fires at the plant that Luce had set on fire, confident that the dwarf had the spider's attentions. He then dashes around Luce into the brush closer up, attempting to regain the shadows.

Deft Strike, moving to P8 first, attack on V1 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 = 15 with first strike, if hits 1d10 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (3, 3) = 12.
Move, to Q14 with Stealth if possible (assuming the foliage is either cover or concealment) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

I'm not sure how far in we can be. I put him in R7, but if possible, would like him as far as Q11.

Varis moves forward to find himself a nice solid tree to snuggle behind.

Stealth 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis suggests, "I'll hide in the woods to the right. Fire from cover. Those are my abilities."

EDIT: Init 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17, anyone within 10sq, with a lower Init, gets +2.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis gives Luce a crooked look, then nods towards the others with lifted eyebrow, as if to say "You think they know a lesser spotted sparrow?". He clarifies for the others, "We scout, not assault. The sign will be a call to arms such as 'Oh lords, the enemy has seen us!', if that would work? Otherwise, we will just return and report."

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

"Please, do not lumber ahead and alert what may be there that we are here. Let Luce and I do what we do best. You move as quietly as falling into a silver cabinet." Varis requests, with as much respect in his voice as he offers anyone... so, not a lot.

Full speed Stealth 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Perception (21) or 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Nature, to assist Luce 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Yes, Varis would most likely range ahead of the group, with his 7 speed, no penalty to stealth, high passive perception. Scout is what he's built for.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

Varis, uncomfortable with all new people to get to know, stays his usual quiet self. He offers no more than nods in greeting, or a bow of respect to Ghost. The old spirit had been a comfort when working the area, never making a sound yet providing company as he awaited his prey. He had a decent respect for the thing being older than he was in a largely 'youthful' community.

Took Background/Theme of Occupation - Hunter, and Bloodsworn respectively.

Sounds good to me (the dazed part at least). Having enemies provide CA, makes it easier for my Rogue Archer to get Sneak Attack, without having to find cover. Granted after they are prone they will be harder to hit, but we can work together to rinse and repeat when they get up.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

With as keen as the girl's senses are, Varis knows his appearance was noticed before he just sprung up beside her. "Luce. Good morning to you. What did you find on the sheep?" He asks quietly, as if they are trading international secrets about the throne.

Male Wood Elf Rogue 2 (AC: 18, F: 14, R: 18, W: 15 | HP: 20/30 [7/7 surges] | AP: 0 | Init: +5 [+11] | Passives I: 19, P: 21)

From all the merchant's trinkets and baubles Varis has a hard time thinking of what he may need. That is until he sees a well stylized heavy cloak. It's made of a sturdy material that could possibly turn away somes attacks, and looks thick enough for those cold nights in the trees. As he's thinking about it, he takes his share of money over to the leatherworker's. During the last fight he realized that the way he did his job prior meant his armor saw a bit of wear. Now that he's found himself amongst some thicker action, he will need a set that has less holes and mends to it.

As the festival carries on, Varis finds a comfortable dark corner that he tucks himself into, watching the villagers and their celebrations. As Luce moves about, he waits until she passes nearby to get her attention, "Psst, Luce. The stray flock still has me concerned, could you ask around if there's been any word of them?"

His level 2 item, he takes a +1 cloak of resistance
With his cash, he buys +1 Leather

Varis wakes to the commotion, but it is what Kyle says that sets his hackles on end, "If untended, where's their shepherd? Maybe, he found trouble. Luce your eyes... or nose?" He points to the direction the sheep had come from, following their path backward, waving her to follow.

Perception to follow their trail. 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22

EDIT: Nature check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Varis has spent too long following the actions of the predators, that he lost a bit of his sense of the flock's actions.

Varis lets the young woman take the lead, as it's not like he could prevent it, besides she has proven good at the hunt. His prey always came to him, and he's more used to going after the rabbit killers, not the rabbits themselves. He tries to stay close though, and stay quiet.

Varis angles a lifted eyebrow at the girl's words "I'll keep an eye on her. Pssh, wouldn't rush off." he mumbles the last in disbelief.

Varis responds, not with an acknowledgment of the question, but something that has been bothering him but wasn't important enough to make an issue of at the time. "It's not 'Wolfman', It's 'Wolfsbane' that they call me... but my name is Varis and what I would prefer."

Despite not addressing the actual question, there is a sense that it is his own awkward way of making a connection.

Avoid 'The Breakfast Club' quotes, because then I will get involved, and we will just go back and forth until the movie as a whole has been quoted (as there are very few unquotable lines in it). Man, I love that movie.

Varis waves off the offer of the amulet "Unnecessary, it is not often I fall and not land on my feet. Let us make a hasty exit, this place has ill-tidings." He moves to help in clearing out the prisoners, but does not linger long as a helper before he soon makes his way back to the front to scout how clear the path out may be.

Most stances last either until the end of the encounter, ended by the player, another stance is started (can't use more than 1 at a time), or the player goes unconscious. Stances make for good utility/Daily powers, because they last the whole encounter, and require no sustain action.
