To be honest, you'd always though they were a fable, but the descriptions you've heard all match the things you've just seen.
NOTE EDIT! Cross-posting occurred.

Luce Winterscliffe |

Luce thinks back; "Me Gram alls told a tale o' t' Bloodthorns. T' vines think an drag their victims w' long lines t' their maw. Where their juices slowly devour ye, burning away y' eyes and skin." Luce shudders remembering the nights she spent sleepless after t' tales.
"I don't want to get near them. T' crafty gobbo's be using 'em, t' defend their flanks."

Kendall Steelshod |

"Interesting, restricted movement and natural terrain predators. Would be easier if I had some alchemist's fire to burn either of the issues. Planning this encounter would be easier knowing the abilities of those entering battle...Still, it would be best I feel, for Caine and I to spring this trap, and any...irregulars ready themselves to loose missles upon those in mid-charge."
Readying an attack against 'the first blighter that charges forward' wouldn't be a bad idea for a counter-ambush, assuming they don't just try to range me to death.
The knight pauses, "Er...pardon, did you say 'turn into a dog?'"

Luce Winterscliffe |

Luce smiles which is slightly unnerving as she her pointed teeth glint between her pale lips; "Aye just a little trick me Gran taught us. It's me heritage, can shift me skin. Ain't like me proper ancestors, whose bones broke as they changed."
Suddenly, the farm lass seems less harmless. "Aye, that ideas a good 'un. I can attack from t' range or git up close." she looks across at Sigvard with a wink. Luce moves over to Betsy making sure she is alright.
Would it be possible to Summon my spirit companion before the encounter actually starts?

Kendall Steelshod |

Kendall lets out a surprised chuckle, "You would make a fine knight, I think."
Just waiting on any other input, otherwise I think the idea'll work, especially if Varis can get into position first.
Also, looking at horse stats, there's stats for a horse, and a riding horse, oddly the riding horse doesn't get the trample ability. I also see nothing about battle spooking it, is that how it'll go? If so I'll gladly take my mount into battle.

Luce Winterscliffe |

Luce blushes beet red.
Betsy will stay behind, if Luce can summon her spirit companion that will accompany her (although No-One knows about it - Not even Luce). Luce also has speed 7 (9 after being bloodied & activating a power, or 11 with her utility). Luce can either go for ranged area attacks or close in sliding claw attacks.

Varis Shepherd |

Varis suggests, "I'll hide in the woods to the right. Fire from cover. Those are my abilities."
EDIT: Init 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17, anyone within 10sq, with a lower Init, gets +2.

Luce Winterscliffe |

Luce leaves Betsy tied to a tree, nearby with plenty of food and the lead being secured but for her friend able to run if attacked. She looks to the others; "So we go with the Knights plan? Varis that'll be grand." in the corner of her eye she sees a dark shadow of a Beastie.
Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Kendall Steelshod |

Okay so assuming he's willing to join me, Caine and I'll approach from southwest going northeast, avoid the spiderweb, or possibly hack it down if that's an option. I'll take total defense each round. I don't want to go any farther than J10, because of those vines, so I'll take my time if they don't attack by that point. A couple of readied actions by the rest of the cast and I think we're off to a good start. Ready when you are
Inish
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Sigvard Ingvarsson |

"Best I think is for me to move around the other side of the web from you, sir knight, commander. I cannot match the stealth of Varis, nor I think is my bow-play as entertaining, but I can add some arrows and move in at the right moment."
Initiative 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 2 = 11
Longbow readied, poems and songs loaded.

Varis Shepherd |

I'm not sure how far in we can be. I put him in R7, but if possible, would like him as far as Q11.
Varis moves forward to find himself a nice solid tree to snuggle behind.
Stealth 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Kendall Steelshod |

Right next to the freehand button is 'insert image' I hotlinked the avatar picture to it, then shrunk it down to about the proper grid size. Not exactly sure how to have my horse involved in this. Was tempted to have a picture of a horse's rear to represent the other square of it, heh.

Luce Winterscliffe |

Luce moves swiftly out of the trees with a low growl she skirts the edge of the tree-line. Jumping over roots and mosses one hand picks up a small sharp piece of stone. Always too enthusiastic as shown by her last adventure, she has moved before the rest exposing their presence with her sprinting.
Her sharp eyes pick out a the Southern Bloodthorn is growing in the hard flinty soil of hills. Her arm whips around throwing the stone to the base trying to hit the flint and alight the ground in a brief conflagration, whilst shocking any ambushers.
Out of the corner of her eye she sees the brief flicker of a dark shape; 'A Beastie? Again...'
Move: Q5(2)-P6-P7-O8-P9(2)
Standard: Flame Seed Vs V(h15) Ref. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23, Damage 1d6 ⇒ 3 (Fire) & Hit: The squares adjacent next to target become a fiery zone TEOMNT. Any enemy entering or starting turn there takes 4 damage.

Rev DM |

Luce bounds into the clearing and sets the nearest vine on fire. As she does so, the trap starts to spring and spiders descend from the trees to attack her and Caine. Movement from the branches suggests that there are more of the creatures lurking in wait.
S1 v Caine - 1d20+9=22. Hits.
S4 v Luce - 1d20+9=20. Hits.

Luce Winterscliffe |

The spiders bite irritates her skin as it drops on her from above. The hairy legs and clacking mandibles send a shiver down her spine. 'Is this what the gobbo's t'were firing at? Or 'ave the spider herders?'
Luce had poison resist 10, so she takes no damage but no has Vulnerable:5 instead?

Kendall Steelshod |

Enemies present, I'm taking my turn.
From atop his steed, Kendall mutters, "Well this has gone to pot already." He rears up his horse, charging towards the one Luce attacked, "Keep your distance! then promptly ignores his own words, moving to R9.
Splat That Spider vs S4
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 for 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 +3 more for riding. 21 damage.
S4 is slowed. Both S4 and S3 are in my aura. -2 to hit others.

Varis Shepherd |

Varis looks at shrugs at Kendall, "She does this a lot, you get used to it and adapt." he offers as a valid explanation. He darts forward and fires at the plant that Luce had set on fire, confident that the dwarf had the spider's attentions. He then dashes around Luce into the brush closer up, attempting to regain the shadows.
Deft Strike, moving to P8 first, attack on V1 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 = 15 with first strike, if hits 1d10 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (3, 3) = 12.
Move, to Q14 with Stealth if possible (assuming the foliage is either cover or concealment) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Rev DM |

Kendall rides straight over the intrusive spiderling as Varis tries and fails to attack V1.
The hiss of arrows heralds the arrival of yet more foes as leaves at the tops of the trees part long enough to briefly reveal some goblins wielding shortbows. Luce presents a very tempting target.
