![]() Ushari grits her teeth and spares a glare at the Shaudran ruin where they had freed the formerly exiled Goddess. "Songstress...Bebhinn, we do still need to rally the coastal towns and cities to our cause...which will take precious time, I fear." She glances at Straehan and nods in agreement with his assessment before facing her Goddess. "Would the mainland consider sending military aid to the Isles?" ![]()
![]() Ushari tries to surpress a giggle at Straehan's innuendo. What worries me is the Songstress will persuade me to stand in for her in her place! I don't really want to be wooed by Strae in this case! She nods soberly at the gnome. "I agree, we will need to take steps to counteract Nala's influence." She runs her hand through her hair. "Don't forget Shaggar, that gnoll we befriended back in Bartleby's Cross." ![]()
![]() Ushari returns her Goddess' smile but she replies with a note of seriousness, "No, I think I have found my path, the path that will keep Despair's Daughter at bay." She sighs softly, "I...I know I can never banish that part of me as we are inseparable". The smile returns to her face as she adds, "Walking with you keeps her from...screaming in my ears, if you know what I mean." ![]()
![]() If Jayse shows signs of being knocked off-kilter, Ushari has been completely bowled over spiritually, if not physically. She reflects that it is not every day your deity PERSONALLY intercedes on your behalf. Thank you, Bititorium. Thank you for allowing me to make the RIGHT choice. She wipes the sea spray from her face and turns to her Goddess. "Songstress, you KNOW what my answer is." ![]()
![]() Yeahhh...seeing as how she is an avatar of an AQUATIC god, I suspect escape via the Mako will not be possible. I don't think escaping into the Shaudran would work either...unless there is a portal to another area of Miir. We could rest there though and then level up, that is a possibility. We could even escape to the Shadow Plane, if worse came to worse. ![]()
![]() *Shrugs* Ushari knew when she refused Naladoria's generous offer, it would lead to her death. Even if we were leveled and at full strength, she would wipe the floor with us. She only hopes (prays?) the party can weaken Naladoria enough to force her to retreat. Admittedly a long shot, but it really is all we have at this point. Hopefully our deaths will delay Naladoria's plans long enough for the other heroes to put a stop to her. That is Ushari's thinking anyway. ![]()
![]() Usahri does not waste any time here. She calls on her deity to blast Naladoria with her last offensive spell in her arsenal. Even as it flies from her hand, she is on the move... "Isolde! we are still bearing the scars of our battles in the Shaudran ruin! Can you help us?" STAND: Cast Spear of Purity at her.
Status:
AC 22 OK, with casting that spell Usahri is out of offensive spells. Plus she is down to one channel so she will save that for her rapier. Now judging high Nala's AC must be, I think she will have a hard time hitting her so if she helps in melee it will be by AA actions.

![]() Ushari is quiet as she hears Orin's refusal of Naladoria's gift. In her eyes the conflict still rages in her heart and her soul. As she continues to search for inspiration, she notes with a trace of bitterness even her deity has been silent. She has only herself to guide her. And yet she did not know WHO she was...Ushari Velnokal or Despair's Daughter? As she delves deeper into her soul, her memories of all the evil acts she perpetrated against innocent men (although certainly not angels themselves), a memory surfaces in her mind. A song...sung by her in a small town many miles from here. She recalled perfectly the notes and pitch she voiced. She remembers the note of hope embodied in the song, banishing Despair. That song was the key. It told her she did not have to choose despair. She had a CHOICE. Then the words of a strange gnome merchant echoes in her mind: Bitiborium wrote: He whispers..."Your past is past. It isn't your future unless you choose to make it so. Remember that - you always have a choice. Sometimes, that's the only thing any of us has." She remembered the exact moment he had told her that, right after she had learned of Despairs Daughter's death. He is right...sometimes a choice is all we have. If I choose to follow Naladoria now, it will be the last choice I will ever have the freedom to make. Her mind made up, she glides over next to the man she had known but a short time, but already sure of his convictions. She bows one time in respect to the Lady who DID give her that second chance and gazes into her eyes. "Naladoria, I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for the chance you have given me. Few ever get a second chance as I have. However, I have finally figured out who I am. I am both Despairs Daughter AND Ushari Velnokal. And I have a choice." She takes a deep breath, her gaze shifting to those who until now were her comrades yet may soon become implacable enemies. "I choose to stand AGAINST you, Naladoria." ![]()
![]() Naladoria - the Grey Lady wrote: She turns to Ushari, "And we would be willing to help you personally as well. When we come to power, we can halt the phase-shifting of Oxex - enabling you to rescue your poor father. Wouldn’t you like to find him? To find out what drove him to leave in the first place?" Naladoria's words are like a tall glass of water offered to a soul dying of thirst. "My father..." Confused, fragmented memories of him flooded her mind, along with a desperate need for answers. Along with a burning desire to extract a horrible revenge on him for leaving her and her mother. Indeed the rage she felt when she thought of him was eerily similar to that she felt against all the men who wronged her. She knew then she was indeed Despair's Daughter as much as she was Ushari Velnokal. To say she wanted to find him was an understatement. Naladoria's words bring her back to the present. "Yes, how much leeway would we have in determining the fate of those who oppose us?" ![]()
![]() Ushari is shocked by Jayse's words. Her mouth drops open as his doubting words struck her as being full of ingratitude. She starts to turn to Jayse and sees the emptiness in his eyes. The second part of his statement, the question about the missing gap in her memories after Despairs Daughter's death until that day on the ocean caused her mouth to close and her brow to furrow in thought. What does Naladoria know of our lost memories? As she waits for the newly freed goddess to respond, she hears words in her mind... Perception (Jofram) 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33 ...and his message strikes her like a blow. What? How?? It cannot be...why...WHY?? She feels tears starting to form in her eyes and hurriedly blinks them away. How could I have been SOOO foolish? Why did I believe her...why did I WANT to believe her?? She reflects on the reasons why she WANTED to believe the goddess so much, to follow her on her crusade against the peoples of Miir. Was it the power offered by her? Yes...but not completely. Was it the chance to aid the causes of freedom, to help the people, to do good? Yes...but again not totally the truth. Finally the complete underlying truth hit her. It started with first her father, then her mother abandoning her. Then the man--her one TRUE LOVE--abandoning her love like it was nothing to him, like SHE was nothing to him. When she saw him in that tavern wench's arms, she knew at that moment Ushari died and Despairs Daughter replaced her. The truth was nearly unbearable and yet there it was...She was looking for some one to LOVE her, since she did not love herself. Naladoria says she would reward her should she help the goddess, and Ushari realized whether or not that was the case, she knew the goddess would, one day, abandon her should she fail in her task....like her long lost love abandoned her that fateful day so long ago. She looks back at her friends and knows what she believed then is no longer the case. They all loved her. And she loved them....and herself. She now knows she would stand with them...all the way until the bitter end if need be. As she turns back to Naladoria, she waits patiently for her to answer Jayse's question. ![]()
![]() Ushari nods slowly in response. "As one who follows another deity, albeit one who is more...fun-loving, I understand perfectly what you are saying, about the war for the souls of those who inhabit the Isles." She looks over to her companions. "While I am certainly predisposed to helping you Naladoria, I would wait until my companions have all spoken their minds first." Has Ushari gotten any divine messages from her own deity concerning her recent actions? ![]()
![]() Orin Vanderwhal wrote:
Consider this done. Ushari likes the dagger as it used to be Dinwat's :) ![]()
![]() Ushari is silent, communing with her own deity. She does pay attention to every word spoken by Naladoria. "It sounds to me as if you speak of a divine war, a war against the Gods in addition to the mortal war you propose." Perception 1d20 + 15 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 15 + 20 = 51 divine

![]() Good points Jayse, but they are BOTH nice weapons. And the adamantium dagger can come in handy (like with that door in the wraith chamber). I would like the group to hang on to BOTH weapons, even if 'Shari gives up the dagger to someone else. If it came down to it 'Shari would use her extra share of the loot to buy the dagger and/or rapier. ![]()
![]() Ushari smiles wanly, "We are alive, Isolde. That counts as a success in my book...and yes we did find what we were looking for." She looks over her own drawn limbs and the various scars left in the earlier battles. "We did suffer greatly but my healing powers should fix them, given time that is." Naladoria said to dip it in the ocean, pour the contents on the beach, and wait for the fireworks, he he. We could do some PvP I suppose, but anyone who attacks 'Shari forfeits any healing until the end of time ;-) ![]()
![]() Ushari thinks for a moment. "I suspect the Conjuration will summon forth Naladoria's....spirit, for want of a better term. The transmutation will allow her to change her form in some way. That is MY guess anyway." She gazes at the shell lost in thought. "Since we are close to summoning a GOD here, there is a very good chance this whole island will be affected by this!" ![]()
![]() Well, I guess I am a bit more old school when it comes to loot. Back in the day you didn't have magic shops and it was basically 'what you found, you used'. My philosophy is as along as everyone gets some loot and also if certain items get 'assigned' to whoever can use them the best, it only helps the team as a whole. SO, I suggest we can put in claims on all the magic items found, and if nothing gets claimed, then we can sell it. BTW, Usahri would take that Cold Resist ring if no one else does. I think a consolidated treasure list would be a good idea, I'll see if I can get one up. ![]()
![]() YAY...now batting .500 in Shaudran Ruin exploration! Ushari squints her eyes from the glare of the sun, never more happy than to see sunlight at this moment in her life. Except for the moment when she FIRST woke up in the Isles. She grins lightly, "I know you ALL must be dying to check out the rest of this ruin, but as for me...." She points off to the beach. "I need to get some rays!" She starts to head off to the rowboat, then pauses. "I think we should get this shell back to the beach as quickly as possible. No telling if anyone else followed us here. Jofram, do you think we can fill the shell with seawater now?" I say we hit the rowboat, pick up the seawater with the shell, and hit the beach! ![]()
![]() As the others gather the loot for transport out of the room, Ushari looks over the shell unwilling to touch it. She asks nervously, "Naladoria said we ned to take the shell to the ocean, dip it in there and pour the water onto land. I think it would be best to retrace our steps and exit the ruin that way. The ocean is right there, and I am sure Isolde is concerned about us." ![]()
![]() Jayse wrote: "Who brought a loot cart?" Ushari shrugs, a half smile on her face. "Maybe Orin has one up his sleeve." Straehan wrote: "This looks remarkably similar to the Front Door we saw from the boat... except the words are less of a jumble. It looks like they've been mostly decoded. It shouldn't take much to finish the puzzle and get it open."] "Sure thing. I wonder where these doors lead to though."
