The Dragon bares her fangs, "I can change that." With a snarl she turns, leaps, and snaps out her leathery wings. The shadowy Dragon soars over the tar pool and slams down nearly on top of the gnome. She utters a few curt phrases and her tail begins to glow a nacreous green. With a deft whip, the dragon's tail bypasses the gnome's guard and taps him lightly. Instantly, the green glow flashes - transferring the life energy from Strae to the Dragon, heaing some of her wounds.

I know you guys do move action to drink a potion that's in-hand. I assumed it's standard to do a potion not-in hand. If it's move to draw, move to drink, then I'll move action drink the shield of faith, standard total defense, 5 ft move to same space.

Jayse, if you delay I'll step up and aid another next turn which, combined with flanking, should help you out a bit. Or if you want I can go for the double hair strike hail mary grapple.

Jofram, it looks to me like you don't have Precise Shot so you've got a -4 ATT for firing into combat. Also, unless I'm reading this wrong, you're using your standard base arrow damage which doesn't account for your STR loss, which should be -3 on DAM. If I'm wrong on either of these, let me know.

As she passes overhead, Jofram peppers the Dragon with arrows - only one penetrating the beast's thick hide. The Ranger's desire to down the fearsome beast, causes him to make a small error. He's a little too close to the beast when he fires his last arrow. The Dragon capitalizes on it. She spins and delivers a vicious bite that nearly snaps the Ranger's head from his shoulders. The Stoneskin spell blunts the damage and the Shield Other shunts even more. Still, the Ranger is staggered by the crushing bite and Ushari gasps at the pain of the transferred wound.

Prior to my post, I didn't see anyone in melee, but the penalty for shooting into melee is indeed a -4, except when the target is two or more size categories larger, making it -2.

Ah, didn't realise it only counted as a -2 due to size. Doesn't change the results but it is good to know. Also, you are in melee range but - moreover - before your attack the Dragon launched a melee touch attack against Straehan and was in combat range with him.

Ushari, you can choose to dismiss the shield other spell if you're worried about taking damage from it. BTW, you might want to hero point standard channel and then swift channel after moving to heal all of us. If you don't, there's a good chance Jayse, Jofram, and I will all die this round.


Ugh. Ushari only has one channel left. So an extra 4d6 HP won't help too much. She also has her BoL scroll at the ready too. To be honest here, I am kinda running out of ideas here. Look at the bright side: if you all die here, Ushari won't be that far behind, he he.

PS: If it wasn't for that spell, Jofram would be dead already.

Know: Nature

The Dragon's eyes rove among its possible foes. Shaken from the monk's blow, it's fanged skull snaps at the Ranger - and misses. Whirling and slashing, the Dragon aims a foreclaw and a set of powerful wing blows at the Monk. The claw and wing belt him sideways but most of the damage is absorbed by Jayse's hardened skin and the rest is shared with Orin. The Dragon, still irritated with the tar wounds, rakes a rear claw and a tail swipe at the invisible gnome. Strae dodges the tail but his belly is opened by the claws. He collapses in an invisible heap, his blood appearing in a slowly spreading pool of crimson.

Jofram leaps backwards and fires a flurry of arrows. Unfortunately, his foot slips on an impossibly greasy spot on his first shot. The twinned standard and slaying arrows go a fraction higher than intended and strike off a thickened plate of armor. The standard arrow snaps and splinters. The Slaying Arrow, however, is made of truer materials. It spangs off the creature's armor and tumbles northward where it hits the wall near Orin and falls the floor - undamaged.

Despite the mishap, another of Jofram's arrows flies true and plunges between the Dragon's ribs, nicking a lung.

Orin moves in cautiously, hair lashing out at the Dragon and trying to pin her to the pillar. He puts a welt across her neck and manages to grapple her but is unable to pin the beast due to the strange slick substance all over her body.

Dragon is grappled.

Jayse wades into the grappled beast, blade driving into her throat and vitals. Several strokes wound the Dragon severely, blood pouring from the unstaunched wounds. But a few of the Monk's blows are turned aside by her formidable armor... and that is all the difference. Jayse steps away, breathing heavily and the beast wobbles - but still stands shakily.

She roars mightily and dust rains down from the temple roof. Then she inhales and rises up to her full height, preparing to consume as many of her tormentors as possible in a blast of her breath.

Dragon is Staggered.

Ushari... you are UP.
If you fail to put the dragon down, it will get its action (which will be very VERY bad for someone) and then collapse from the point loss from the act itself and Jayse's recurrent bleed damage. No pressure. :)


Ohhh...now or never girl...

Usahri sees her chance. She darts in, rapier flashing and tries to finish off the dragon, calling on a heroic burst of energy to penetrate her thick hide. She then chatters at Skitter, "If I fail here...it is up to YOU!"

Dragon's know when they are dying, and this one is no exception. Even were she to Shadow Walk right now, the effort would leave her unconscious and the bleeding wounds she suffered would finish her. So she has to make her death worthwhile, even if it requires playing a risk. Her vision goes blurry as the multiple images of Ushari tumble into range. Even striking at one of them would be too much effort. She has to hope the acrobat misses... and then she will bathe half her assailants in a black cloud pulled directly from the heart of the negative material plane.

It will scour the flesh from their bones! It will reduce them to piles of...

Ushari's rapier concludes the Dragon's thought - with a single perfect strike, up through the jaw, skewering the creature's brain, and bursting from the top of the skull like a needle-thin unicorn horn. The beast twitches once and the 300 lb head collapses. Ushari steps clear of the crashing skull, pulling her red-soaked rapier free.

The temple falls silent.

Jofram clambers over the wyrmkind to Straehan's fallen form. Arcane energy washes through the gnome, stemming his blood loss and closing torn flesh.

Jofram tracks Straehan down by spotting the gnome-sized body print in the pool of blood and heals him. The gnome becomes visible and rolls over moaning, "Did we win? I'm assuming we did." The gnome stays on the ground, "Ya know what, I've earned a rest. I'm gonna lie here for awhile."

As the adrenaline subsides, the pain from the wounds, both physical and supernaturally-transferred, weighs heavily on the witch's mind. He pulls out his wand and begins healing, alternating between those who appear most wounded.

Well fought, everyone. It's a shame we couldn't reach a more peaceable agreement, he says in between pulses of positive energy. Can you three stand guard while Ushari and I set things right?

Just to take care of the obvious...

Neither Orin nor Straehan detect any invisible creatures or strange magical emanations aside from the usual 'glow' of the Fortress.

The bottled rage ebbs from Jayse as he watches the team recover from the fight. He looks over at Straehan, making sure the gnome is, in fact, alright. "You suck at following instructions, by the way. What part of 'and stay alive' was confusing to you?" The gnome has known the warrior long enough to realize he's kidding.

Jayse stands guard while Orin and Ushari tend the wounds. "Well fought, indeed. Not a pretty win. But we're breathing and she isn't, and I'll take that outcome any day."

His blue blade dissipates as the team looks around at the big room. Jayse's own blue eyes scan the small mountains of treasure. "Um. Yes. And what the hell's a fettling? And will the fetch me a stout drink?" He begins to move towards the treasure. "Do we think she trapped it? I guess we should break into teams and search for traps as well as the shell. You guys wanna look for magic auras while i keep my eyes open for … what was it? Four-Armed Vampiric somethin-or-others?"

"So, what kind of loot is this girl protecting?"

Jayse, still doing a visual sweep of the room, looks back down at the dragon, "Jofram, how long do you think it'd take to skin her? Surely theres some cash to be made carting out an umbral dragon's hide. Not to mention selling some teeth or claws as souvenirs. Who brought a loot cart?"


The gnome walks the room, looking for traps and find nothing that tickles his nose. In the middle of the far southern wall, as he navigates around the massive pile wealth, he calls your attention to the large arched door with the central rings.

"This looks remarkably similar to the Front Door we saw from the boat... except the words are less of a jumble. It looks like they've been mostly decoded. It shouldn't take much to finish the puzzle and get it open."

The gnome expresses mock outrage. "What are you talking about? I'm ALIVE, aren't I? You never specified 'alive, conscious, and not bleeding out in a corner'. If you want a specific outcome with me, you'll need to be more descriptive." He raises a placating hand, "Don't worry, the next Dragon we fight - I'll try to meet your nit-picky demands."
