Trotter Male Halfling Venture-Captain 19

The Venture Captain steps forward from the back with his fedora in his hands, nodding slowly. "Yes, it is always a sad day when one of our own has fallen, especially in the line of duty."

Trotter takes a deep breath and says, "But let us hope that everyone's fate is not so sealed. In fact, I just received a missive that one of the Society's dear friends, Zeeva Foxglove, has received a troubling Harrow reading portending imminent doom. And she says the predictions have already started coming true. So much tragedy all at once..."

"But we are Pathfinders! We are not going to sit by and let fate take another from us! I've decided to send a team to help Zeeva in whatever way they can, perhaps even by changing fate entirely. Please, if you'd like to do this in honor of Brother Grimdoc, come speak to me and hopefully you can help Zeeva avoid a similar fate."

Hey everyone! I'm recruiting for 08-01 Portent's Peril for levels 1-5. Please read this first:

read me!:

  • I no longer require/request one post per day. Frankly, I can't keep that kind of schedule anymore so I won't ask you to either. However, to keep the game moving forward I still ask that you post at least 4-5 times per week. But if you want to post every day, go for it. I will do my best to post as often as possible.
  • I expect roleplaying at my tables. Please keep out-of-character strategy talk to a minimum. And please please no posts with just dice rolls. I expect my players to engage with the game. I have removed players for simply rolling dice without interacting with the story so please take this request seriously. It's a lot more fun for everyone if you do and PbP is a great medium to really take time to explore your character by adding some description and dialog each time you update.

And once you have read the spoiler, you can apply here. Low level scenarios usually fill up fast so I'll roll for winners by the end of the day tomorrow (Friday) and get started right away this weekend.

Good luck!

Trotter Male Halfling Venture-Captain 19

Moving about and chatting casually with his agents, Trotter overhears Quain's title and notes, "Greatest entertainer? Magnificent? You sound like my good friend Trade Prince Ali Khalid Mustafa Ansari ibn Adeeb, THE AMAZING ALI and self-proclaimed greatest magician in all of Golarion. Perhaps you should meet."

----

Trotter then approaches the front of the room and takes up his usual position on top of a stool, trying desperately to look over the crowd but really only managing to look a few patrons in the eye.

"Agents! I've got another request from the Decemvirate and this one may require some of our more experienced members to step forward. We have all heard by now about the Korholm Agenda, the faction of the Aspis Consortium that launched a staggering attack against the Pathfinder Society a year ago. The Agenda’s leader has allied himself with one of the most powerful men in Thuvia, and together they are on the cusp of pitching the entire region into a brutal war of conquest and greed."

"Well, the Decemvirate has placed its trust in our humble Flaxseed Lodge here in Cassomir to stop this internecine conflict. To do so, we'll have to confront the Korholm Agenda’s leader in his own domain. So I need six volunteers willing to make the trip to Thuvia."

Hello everyone! I am recruiting for 07–28 Ageless Ambitions for levels 7-11. You can sign up here but please read the conditions below first! I think the last group I recruited is really taking the second point seriously and it is making the game a lot more fun!

I will roll a lottery for winners either tomorrow or Saturday but we won't start until next week (Monday or Tuesday).

Thanks and good luck!

The halfling Venture-Captain throws open the door to his Cassomir-based Lodge and looks around. He lets out a big sigh of relief when he realizes that the Lodge hasn't gone up in smoke over his absence. "I'm glad someone had the foresight not to let Ace take over while I was gone. I was worried I'd be cleaning up for months. Anyways..."

Trotter bounces over to a nearby table and climbs atop a chair to see over the crowd a bit better. "I know I've been gone for some time but things have been busy at the Grand Lodge. I'm back though and I have some fresh orders and a need for the best agents the Society has to offer, so naturally I came here!"

Trotter then glances down at his notes and begins his lecture. "Ongoing unrest in Cheliax has strained the nation’s military resources, as you all probably know. Well, we've heard that the Order of the Gate sensed something brewing in the Menador Mountains, and they sought us out for assistance. We have, of course, answered the call. After all, the same site the Hellknights identified is one of the ancient ruins we have long wanted to study. So I need a group of agents to salvage the site’s historic wonders while also honoring our commitment to the Order of the Gate in Cheliax. Who's interested?"

It's been a few months since I have run a new game but I'm back! A few games have finished up as both player and GM and I expect my schedule to open up a little in January.

"Eh-hem!" the local Venture-Captain calls attention to his lodge and steps atop a stool, still only meeting the taller folks in the crowd at eye-level. "Oh good, there are so many new agents here! Well, it has been some time but I've got quite the opportunity for some of our newer agents if they are up for it!"

Trotter begins his lecture, an all-too-familiar professorial tone entering the archaeologist's voice. "As many of you know, decades ago, the merchant nation of Druma anticipated a wave of migrants and built the city Alabastrine to accommodate them. The mass migration never happened. Always seeking a return on investment, Druma recently began auctioning off control of the city to the highest bidders and wealthiest entrepreneurs for five years at a time. The next auction begins soon, and the powerful Aspis Consortium gold agent Myrosype—an enemy of the Society responsible for countless Pathfinders’ deaths—is poised to take control of the whole city for her own nefarious ends. Luckily, the Society has secured a few invitations for a handful of agents to attend the auction. Come see me if this sounds like the type of mission you'd like to help with!"

I am recruiting for 07-22 Bid for Alabastrine (levels 1-5). You can sign up here. I'm looking for five players and I will roll for winners by the end of the weekend.

Trotter then puts his spectacles back on and shuffles a few papers. "Oh yes! And this is one that will require some of our more experienced agents." He takes off the glasses and begins again, "Coincidentally, this also concerns an auction but one far more devious. I am sure that most of you have heard about the high-ranking kidnap during the attack on the Grand Lodge this past year. Well, the Society has tracked the kidnapped to another plane of existence, where his captor is preparing to sell her prize to a host of otherworldly bidders. Of course, the Ten would like some agents to intervene and retrieve our agent before this can happen. Please come see me if you think you can help!"

I am recruiting for 07-23 Abducted in Aether (levels 7-11). You can sign up here. I'm looking for six players and I will roll for winners by the end of the weekend.

    Thanks everyone and good luck!

Please read before signing up for my games:

Frequency: I know that everyone gets busy and misses a day here and there, but it is expected that you post at least once a day under normal circumstances. If you don't think you will be able to post every day, you should consider a slower game. I try to update my games every day and if you are not able to keep up you will not be interacting with the story or with your fellow agents enough to earn your XP.
Posting Quality: Please try to bring your character to life! Play-by-post may be slow but it has the advantage over tabletop games in allowing players to give full descriptions of their characters looks and actions and it gives you the time to put thought into those descriptions and into the dialog you write for your character. Please take advantage of the medium and spice up the game with some description and dialog. Interact with your fellow agents. That's what role-playing games are all about! I should never ever see a post with just dice rolls; we are not playing Yahtzee! The out-of-character chatter should be kept to a minimum in the Gameplay thread.

I know it sounds harsh, but when I started implementing these rules guidelines, my games became much more enjoyable. The more you put into a game, the more you will get out. If everyone posts minimal description with dice rolls, the game will get boring really fast. If everyone makes an effort to write engaging posts, the characters will become more dynamic and the game will be much more enjoyable for everyone involved and your GM will be much happier.

    Thank you!

Your friendly halfling Venture-Captain hops up on his stool and raps his knuckles against Ace's new bar to catch everyone's attention. "If I am not mistaken, we have a few fellow Seekers in this Lodge and I will need to speak with them urgently! It seems the Society is looking for agents with plenty of experience for a delicate matter in Thuvia!"

A very special recruitment for 07-20 All for Immortality Part I: First Taste of Eternity for levels 12-15. This is the new seeker arc which will be released in three parts over the next few months. I am looking for a dedicated group of high-level characters to play through all three parts together. For such a long and demanding series I am looking for really high-quality players who enjoy roleplaying and interacting with their fellow agents. High level games always run the risk of turning into page after page of dice rolls so I want a group who can keep the description and dialog fresh throughout the whole series. Sign up here if interested. In the event that there are more than six signups, I will probably hand-pick the crew.

As the more experienced agents work their way through the crowded common room towards Trotter, the halfling calls out another announcement, "Now I haven't forgotten about our newer agents either! I'd like to give you some more experience in the field as well, so that you might one day be called Seekers too! It seems there is plenty to do in Thuvia so I'll be sending you along with a slightly different task."

I'm also recruiting for 07-21 The Sun Orchid Scheme for levels 1-5. You can sign up here. I will roll a lottery for winners some time in the next few days.

"Pathfinders! I've got some interesting new missions for my agents so gather around and listen up!" the halfling Venture-Captain calls everyone together and then begins his announcements.

Expectations for signing up for my games:

    Game Expectations
    1. Posting Frequency: Before signing up, consider how much time you can devote to the game. I prefer players who can post once per day on average. I understand that everyone occasionally has a busy day and just can't find the time to post. I try to avoid this but even as the GM I sometimes miss a day. But not posting for several days is not acceptable. It slows the game down and makes it less interesting because your character will be left behind in the action. And if you disappear during combat and hold things up for a day, I will skip you and move on.
    2. Posting Quality: Take advantage of the medium and write some description. Tell us what your PC is doing or what they look like; put up some dialog and start a conversation with your fellow PCs. It makes the game immensely more engaging, immersive, and entertaining. Here is a great example of PCs coming to life with some great description and dialog. I hate to call someone out on bad posting etiquette when the player in question has been making an effort to be better about posting quality lately, but do not ever do this. Isn't the first example so much more fun to read than just a post with some empty dice blocks in it or a post with nothing but ooc text? I will admit, it can sometimes be hard to spice up combat posts. But here is some great simple advice on that. Bottom line: be willing to make an effort role-playing in my game. If you aren't up to that challenge, please consider playing a different game. If you aren't much of a writer or are new to PbP, don't be intimidated. I/We will help you improve! But if you sign up for my game and make too many posts with just dice or just ooc text, I will give you a warning and if your quality doesn't improve I reserve the right to ask you to leave the game.

Another caveat this time: during the last two lotteries, I had a player who made it into both games and then failed to show up. That means two people who could have played the scenario didn't get a chance to play because I had already started and couldn't wait for a replacement. It is your responsibility to watch the thread and show up to the game if you are chosen. It's the least you can do for the GM when they are putting time into running the game; I don't have time to track down all the chosen players individually.

Trotter clears his throat and launches into his first lecture. "As many of you know, a magical war between the archmages Geb and Nex left the landscape between their nations scarred and wracked by magical anomalies—a barren stretch known as the Mana Wastes. During the conflict, their generals also created countless weapons and defenses that pushed the limits of magic, yet most of these were destroyed in battle or lost forever. Recent investigations suggest that some of this ancient power is at play in an insular town outside Alkenstar, but there the trail runs cold. Can you work together uncover the truth while braving the residents' eccentricities? I need six brave agents willing to try!"

I will be running 07–12: The Twisted Circle for levels 1-5. Sign up here and I will roll a lottery for the winners in the next couple days.

Nodding in satisfaction that everyone has digested the first mission, Trotter then describes the next mission. "Recent events have left the Master of Spells Aram Zey unable to fulfill his duties, and without his expertise, the Pathfinder Society struggles to resolve pressing arcane matters. The Decemvirate has reopened the decade-old case of the most qualified replacement: Aram Zey's predecessor and former Master of Spells Sorrina Westyr, who disappeared while handling a powerful wayfinder that the Society has since kept closely guarded. It will be up to your team to track down Sorrina Westyr—and bring back whatever remains. Good luck in this important endeavor!"

I will be running 07–13: Captive in Crystal for levels 5-9. Sign up here and I will roll a lottery for the winners in the next couple days.

    Thanks everyone and good luck!

I am running the two newest scenarios but because I have been having some problems lately I am going to lay down some rules first. Please read the disclaimer spoiler below before signing up for either of my games. Thanks!

    Disclaimed for GM EF's games:

Isn't the first example so much more fun to read than just a post with some empty dice blocks in it or a post with nothing but ooc text? But if you sign up for my game and make too many posts with just dice or just ooc text, I will give you a warning and if your quality doesn't improve I reserve the right to ask you to leave the game.

Sorry to be harsh but I have had several PFS PbP games lately that honestly were not fun for me to GM because players were not abiding by the above rules. The games took way longer than they should have because some players were only posting every 3-5 days and they were far less engaging than they should have been because the players were making (at best) minimal efforts to role-play. If it is not fun for me, I am less motivated to run more games. So the above are just guidelines to help make it more fun for everyone involved.

"Ok, agents!" calls out the halfling Venture-Captain. "I've got some new assignments! I think some of our greener agents might get some good experience with this first one. The Aspis Consortium pays well, but few can stand its underhanded tactics for long. One operative fed up with the Consortium's practices has contacted the Pathfinder Society with a tempting offer: assist her in leaving the organization, and she will supply the Society with years of insider intelligence about their longstanding rival. It's up to some of our agents to navigate Diobel—a proud town run by cutthroat smugglers—earn the defector's trust, and deal a telling blow to their Aspis foes. Come see me if you'd like to help!"

I am running 07-10 The Consortium Compact, the new "evergreen" scenario for level 1-2 PCs. You can sign up on my sheet here and I will roll a lottery for winners in the next couple days.

"This next one is going to require a little more experience, I am afraid," Trotter says as he lowers his voice for dramatic effect. "When the Jeweled Sages, an ancient order of Osirian scholars, fled Qadiran invaders millennia ago, some perished, and others disappeared deep into territories once held by the pharaohs of old. With the help of the Jeweled Sages' long-abandoned tools, the eminent Tahonikepsu-the newest leader of the Scarab Sages-has discovered one of the sages' last known whereabouts in the wilds of Nex. We need agents to find more information about the Amethyst Sage by traveling to that dark country. See me for a fitness evaluation before you leave!" Trotter hops down from his stool and starts fielding names of willing agents.

I am running 07-11 Ancients' Anguish (levels 7-11). You can sign up on my sheet here and if more than six sign up I will roll a lottery for winners in the next couple days.

    Thanks everyone!

Exactly! I always cringe a bit when people refer to mechanical things in-character. Like when a character says, "This is a +1 short-sword!" Is that what they would really call it? They don't know what +1 is or that their fate is determined by dice and modifiers. They would just say, "I have a magical short-sword!"

Trotter shakes his head. "Well, shorthand is useful in some instances but I only fear that by telling new agents they are only at 'level one', you risk intimidating them by exposing their inexperience. We are all Pathfinders here, so we can cooperate without clumping into cliques, right?"

Besides, fives have lives, fours have chores, threes have fleas, twos have blues, and ones don't get a rhyme because they're garbage! Bonus points if you catch the reference.

As many of you know, less than a decade ago, the Pathfinder Society established a lodge in Nirmathas, an act that infuriated the nation's expansionist rival Molthune. The latter outlawed the Society soon after, and ever since Pathfinders have relied on smugglers like the Varisian entrepreneur Guaril Karela to slip supplies past the Molthuni blockade for both the lodge and the Society's war-torn neighbors. Something has intercepted those shipments. If you would like to help uncover the culprit and save the Society's reputation in Nirmathas, come see me!"

"Ok, Pathfinders!" the local Venture-Captain hops up on his stool and pulls out a pair of spectacles. Donning his glasses, he looks down at a clipboard and says, "I've got a new pair of missions coming up!"

"First, I'll need some newer recruits. Several years ago, rebellion in the seaside town of Pezzack resulted in a Chelish blockade to slowly starve the rioters into submission. Since then few have entered or left, trapping the increasingly desperate citizens with little with which to repair their broken homes and eke out a living. Now the Society has learned that an important informant still lives in the ruined town, and we need some agents who must smuggle themselves into Pezzack, navigate the devastated urban landscape, and extract the contact—all without igniting a new rebellion and inviting Cheliax’s unfettered wrath. Come see me for details!"

I'll be running 06-22 Out of Anarchy for levels 1-5 when it is released on Wednesday. You can sign up on my spreadsheet and if there are more than six sign-ups I will roll a lottery on Wednesday to see who gets in.

"Ok, next I'll need some more experienced agents. The occasional unexplained disappearance is common enough in Ustalav, yet a rash of unexplained abductions has led to fearful speculation on the verge of panic in the streets. Hoping to improve the Pathfinder Society’s reputation in Ustalav, Venture-Captain Basia Kalistoff has offered our services in putting an end to this crime wave. Come sign up if you think you can take this mission on!"

I'll be running 06-23 The Darkest Abduction for levels 7-11 when it is released on Wednesday. You can sign up on my spreadsheet and if there are more than six sign-ups I will roll a lottery on Wednesday to see who gets in.

    Thanks everyone and good luck!

Trotter is on normal track, as is Avoreal and Vuvu. I think Vars is on slow track, not sure about Duh.

@GM (continued): You can get the chronicle sheet for this adventure from here. It is at the top under the Rise of the Runelords where there is a link to download the chronicle sheets.

You'll only need the last sheet for this adventure. You'll have to print it and sign it at the bottom, writing down the event number for the event you just created above. Along the side you will also need to fill out that we got 3 XP, 4 Prestige, and however much gold the sheet says in the top right corner. The people who are doing slow-track will get 1.5 XP, 2 Prestige, and however much gold is listed under "slow" in the top right corner.

The day job rolls people made above earn them a little extra gold which you'll have to note along the side too:

    DC Result GP Award
    5 1 gp
    10 5 gp
    15 10 gp
    20 20 gp
    25 50 gp
    30 75 gp
    35 100 gp
    40 150 gp

Then just scan them and send them out however you want. Some people just print and sign one copy, then scan it, and then fill out the numbers along the side through Adobe rather than print and sign six copies individually but however you want to do it is up to you.

@GM: The first step is to get the game reported. You'll have to go to "My Account" at the top of the page and then the "Pathfinder Society" section. From there click on the "GM/Event Coordinator Tab" and create a new event with whatever title you want. The most important thing is to note the number it gives you for that event (because you will need to write this on the chronicle sheet) and to check off "Spires of Xin Shalast" as one of the games you are running at that event.

Once you've created the event, there is a button to "Report". This will bring up a form that is pretty self-explanatory. You'll have to put in the date, choose the adventure, enter your own PFS# (and the character number you are applying it to, even if you don't really care about that).

Then you just have to input everyone else's character numbers. The other fields should auto-populate since we all have our characters registered already. Under "Prestige" everyone will get 4 unless they are going slow-track (1/2 XP), in which case they will get 2 prestige.

Then just hit "save and exit" and the game is reported!

And if you ever run more PFS in the future, you can keep reusing the same event and event number by just adding those games to that event. I've been using the same event for all of my games for over a year.
