I've seen alot of complaints about Dragotha being weak. Let me help you out 1. Advance him to Great Wyrm
Party has defeated the wormdrake and his two gated in frostworms. Dragotha flies in and blasts the party with fire. this pretty much eliminated their pro fire spell and then quicken the deathwind breath weapon. My group had this thing about not casting death ward. They also were pretty low on resources.
So long story short Dragotha lands and begins wrecking people. He was dropping one per rd. Again i asked about the miracle/ greater t-port spells They chose the mass heal route. To quote the indiana jones movie "They chose poorly" I suppose I am now expected to come up with some post-apocalyptic campaign ![]()
![]() Age of Worms My group have made it into Dragotha's cavern and had a lovely battle with Venk(19th level warlock) riding an advanced wyvern, Loris Raknian, now a deathknight with his trusty nightcrawler steed, 6 overworms and being harassed by the avolokias inside the castle. nice appetizer that they crushed. Upon entering the citadel, the first three guys had to make 7 saves vs. suggestion from the avolokias waiting on the inside. Magic Circle trivializes the encounter. The fighter and the rogue enter and then my avolokias start using wall of stone to block the entrance as well as divide the group. Good battle, plenty of drama. next session is the main course with the Dracolich ![]()
![]() Well my guys have begun Part 11 of AOW, they had a fun encounter getting in the middle of a lovers quarrel between the lillend bard/sorcerer and a slightly crazy lich. They were not expecting a talky encounter They then had a nice battle at the entrance to Dragothas domain featuring some earthcancer centipedes, mindkiller scorpions and a 17th level Ulgurstasta(sp) sorcerer Of the three empowered disintegrates I got off only one stuck. ![]()

![]() The group finished off Kings of the Rift and are now 19th level, the look on the players faces when told they were being assaulted by 33 dragons was priceless. They have found and destroyed the Dracoliches phylactery. I did add a little something extra to the phylactery as I thought just smashing it seemed a bit boring. They used divination to determine how to destroy the phylactery by smashing it with a holy weapon while being held in the hands of an innocent child and then having to kill said child as the dracoliches soul was now in the child. They figured out a way to do so by simply resurrecting a volunteer from their home town. Honestly, I had no specifics set for this, it was just a thought exercise. Now they are off to simply destroy the very pissed off Dracolich ![]()

Scouting is great until it's not. This scout was walking.( Why he chose to walk is another discussion) along the moss covered floor of the cavern when he was surprised by the Kaiju Carrion crawler. 9 attacks later he was paste. And now for the fun part, They just heard horns and bells going off above them in the city. My cleric has a preceptor archon via planar ally who informed them that the city is about to be hit by 30+ Dragons. The look on the players faces was priceless ![]()
![]() So I am always on the lookout for good game background music, This is nice and Doomy. I think I'll use this for a mini-boss fight. Kinda like Lost Astronaut In my gaming career of 40+ years, I have used one song for the BBEG fight While I'm rambling, I first heard this when I was like 13 and it scared the crap out of me, I absolutely loved it! ![]()
![]() I watch a lot of movies. Actually, strike that. I watch a lot of bad movies. And some tv series. I find that the worse the tv show or the movie, the more I get inspired by it. Completely over the top NPCs, insane plots, and weird plot holes. Pretty much like any game session I've been a part of, essentially. I also surf weird parts of the web. The SCP Foundation has been a consistent place where I can go to look at items. I tend to want different impulses from all over the board before something gels. DeviantArt is a great resource for inspirational graphics. The worldbuilding subreddit a good place for maps, tips, and so on. I tend to have the visual first, and then build a story around that. That way, I ensure that I can show, don't tell. Various conspiracy theories are also good, because they show how something can start out pretty reasonable, and then go off the deep end. Good tv shows and movies, of course, can also be useful. But, ironically, I find that the bad ones are better for me. ![]()

![]() Though I am far from an aficionado on jazz, I have had good luck in that category. Norah Jones, Weather Report, Miles Davis. I have been told on multiple occasions that I need some John Coltrane in my collection. Journey of the Sorcerer-Eagles You have to love how the Eagles decided one day to write this cosmic-fantasy instrumental and throw in a banjo for fun. And then a sci-fi writer ends up making that the theme to a genre-defining work cause of said banjo...and the rest is history. Magnificent composition. A great piece of 70's prog, even though the middle is a bit more on the hard rock side ![]()
