If assuming the lower edge of the Inner Sea is the equator and the upper edge is the artic circle, then River Kingdoms correspond roughly to... Ukraine.
(köppen climate type Dwa)
That would put it in climate zone #6 or #7. *scratches head*
I'm thinking that it's more like Germany be it the northern part or the southern part.
So climate zone #4 or #5.
Bringslite wrote: I think it looks fairly temperate from the screenshots also. The starting map is small, currently without mountains (hello Avena ;P) so I doubt it would be more than one climate. I will say #4.
The whole River Kingdoms, I can't comment on as I do not have the source material.
Yeah, I will change my mind and say that climate zone #4 is probably the most likely but I can no longer change my original post.

How can Deianira be expected to perform feats of magical brilliance without a nice meal of cacio e pepe pasta and a good Chianti?!
Why are you talking about yourself in third person? She's not - Deianira is a character and thus separate from the person playing her. If English isn't your native language, it can get confusing :) You should never break the fourth wall.

I have thought on how exactly is the climate in the River Kingdoms and I have come up with this: first there is a number and then the name of the location which is similar in the real world to this climate zone and finally the chance of this climate zone appearing within the River Kingdoms.
1: Tropical - Extremely Unlikely
2: Spain - Highly Unlikely
3: Southern France - Unlikely
4: Northern France/Southern Germany - High
5: Northern Germany - Very High

Oh no, by all means, you can take Bladderwolf for yourself if you wish. Oh no, I would never steal YOUR name since you deserve it so.
Bluddwolf wrote: I was not asked for reserved names. Probably get a follow up email for my Brew Master info and names of two characters later. I believe that Bladderwolf is still available.
Ok I got my three names reserved.
Greywolf and the alternative spelling Graywolf and Bloodwolf since it sounds a little bit better than Bluddwolf.

Divided we will fall and together we will prosper. Did I just see a large patriotic flag fluttering behind you and hear stirring anthems play as you spoke? A flag? Yes, I see a white... symbol on light green. Macau? Pakistan? Saudi Arabia? I have tried roleplaying with you but you just fail at it.
And only Forrest Gump type people writes IC and OOC in front of every sentence, people with a good head on their shoulders figures it out anyway... too bad that you didn't.

htrajan wrote: So this game will already have a strong PvP focus creating a higher barrier to entry than most MMOs. Adding a reactive dimension to combat would raise the bar even higher but also provide something that other MMOs for the most part lack.
For example, the selection circle at a mob's base will glow red indicating it's about to attack. This would give you about a second to hit a hotkey that readies a defensive maneuver. If you succeed, you parry the mob's attack and break its defenses for a couple seconds, allowing you to retaliate with a devastating counterattack. This would probably be made less ez-mode in PvP by removing the glowing red circle by forcing you to focus on what the player is actually doing and having the proper muscle memory to hit the corresponding hotkey. (To practice for this when fighting mobs, you would be able to turn off UI attack indicators in settings.)
To prevent abuse of this, use of this sort of ability would perhaps be limited to once every 10-15 seconds. I think a cool way to implement this would be to change what WASD does in combat if you hold down the left and right click buttons simultaneously. If you're a "fighter" type character for instance, you might see something like this on the screen:
|- pre-emptive counter
W
parry left - A S D - parry right
|
reactive counter
Where a pre-emptive counter is a lightning quick strike that interrupts the enemy's attack, breaks their defenses and advances you forward; parry left and right are defensive abilities that block the incoming attack and reposition you to the left or right; and reactive counter is a maneuver that causes you to dart backward dodging the enemy's blow and then quickly counterattack during that vulnerable moment where they have missed you and need to reposition their weapon.
I would be over the moon if something like this could be implemented, as it would put an end to the button-mashing fest that is MMO combat today.
Would you...
This will prevent people over forty from enjoying the game.
I can draw a parallell between EverQuest and World of Warcraft, EverQuest were a slow paced game where you had time to chat while fighting monsters and the community grew and was filled with helpful and generally nice people and then came World of Warcraft which is a much faster paced game... button mashing even.
The older player who transitioned from EverQuest to World of Warcraft couldn't handle the faster pace of the game so they quit and tweens took their place in roleplaying guilds and whatnot and it wasn't long before those roleplaying guilds fell apart completely and World of Warcraft became what it is today.
People needs to become organized and band together, that is the only way to fight the bandits.
Divided we will fall and together we will prosper.
I disagree.. if Tolkien said that female dwarves looks like male dwarves then it means that both genders have beards.
And I see nothing wrong with that, if you want a pretty female then there are the human and elven races to choose from.
Bad ideas in D&D: Vorpal swords, with a critical hit you chop off the head of your enemy resulting in instant death.
I don't think that this overpowered type of weapon should exist at all and it was a very bad idea to introduce it in the first place.
I voted for mounts in the now removed poll but I would probably change that to pets now since having a wolf or bear companion will be far more useful than having a horse.
I'm bumping this thread in the hopes of a response from Goblinworks Inc.

This is exactly what I asked in my original post and what I'm asking is: what is the campaign type / fantasy setting for PFO i.e. how many points do we get to distribute?
What if PFO doesn't resemble Pathfinder pen and paper besides the world that it takes place in, is this good or bad for you the fans of Pathfinder?
And by that I mean on the STR, DEX, CON and so forth or will it be rolled by dice like in Baldur's Gate?
I think that the big scare were and still is that if people vote for mounts in the now removed poll then wizards and rangers won't get their ''pets'' although they are not necessarily classified as pets.

Quote: Their eyes are wide and almond-shaped, and filled with large, vibrantly colored pupils. The coloration of elves as a whole varies wildly, and is much more diverse than that of human populations. However, as their coloration often matches their surroundings, the elves of a single community may appear quite similar. Forest-dwelling elves often have variations of green, brown, and tan in their hair, eye, and even skin tones. I'd assume some humans couldn't get past their bigotry, but some may just see those eyes as windows into an beautiful soul. A beautiful black soul full of spite?

I haven't played since AD&D 2nd Edition though. It´s PFRPG stuff I guess, they were not that way in D&D 3.5 as well. Yeah, too bad they made the most beautiful race creepy-looking.
Anyone mentioned temples for the different gods and goddesses yet?
Not that I care much about the gods and their ilk and they probably care less about us, but praying to them when times are difficult might help... or not. /shrugs
Alexander Augunas wrote: The Shameless One wrote: Should half-elf really exist at all?

My suggestion is this: the offspring of a human and an elf either looks like a human or as an elf and not like something inbetween.
And then we come to... half-orc, really what a good name, that must have taken hours to come up with... but no.
Lets rename the half-orc to something more imaginative.
Uruk-hai sounds good to me but it's probably copyrighted by the Tolkien's but you get my drift. Considering half-elves have human eyes and elf elves have ... creepy black soulless eyes ... yeah. Half-elves look different. When did elves get creepy black eyes?
I haven't played since AD&D 2nd Edition though.

I understand you want to give credit to LordDaeron for that suggestion and that is generous of you, but I would point out it is a very old idea that was discussed by many. LordDaeron is a very creative and valuable member but if we are going to assign credit for an idea we should have to establish an extensive research and documentation process.
There have been other attributions recently that were mistaken as well: just because someone first saw the idea pronounced by one or another poster does not mean that was the first time it was proposed. Many ideas have been discussed by many people since 2011, and possibly earlier.
The problem is that if somebody else suggested it earlier their contribution is being forgotten, which can damage the sense of community.
I wish to urge that none of us attribute an idea to anyone of us without actually going to the trouble to learn if we are slighting an earlier poster. The idea itself is whats important and if you want to assign credit to someone else then name that person.
The idea behind that everyone begins as True Neutral is that you don't automatically start as Lawful Good but you have to earn it and having to earn things is a good mechanic in an online game who builds on it's community.
By the way, I have thought up a name for one of your ingame characters... Venomtongue, good isn't it?

And what about the other possible offsprings between different races?
Human + Dwarf = Half-Dwarf?
Dwarf + Halfling = ???
Halfling + Gnome = ???
Gnome + Elf = ???

GW will certainly keep things in PFO in concordance with PFRPG rules and Golarion lore. So I don't see any chance of such kind o change.
Actually, Half Elf do not look exactly like elves, their ears are smaller, and they are shorter than elves. And they don't share many of Elfic habilities. They also have a personality more close to human behavior, most of them at least.
Half-orcs have no racial specific name because they are outcasts, so nobody probably cared to give their race a name.
They would name themselves just as humans did.

Now this is an intersting concept. in a few MMo that had the ability to make your own homes the materials were brought up in many layers. RPGworlds had stone wood and i beleive straw houses maybe metal cannot remeber. UO had wood and stone houses and I believe stone toweres how many people put a layer of wall just inside your doorway so no can see inside your house when you opened the door lols.
anyhoo the point is , GW we want more than just simple straw huts or 1 rom houses make it avalible we just make building by putting up wals/floors and then adding (workshops/labs) then just lable the build whatever we want this will save you the hundeads of thousands of hours developing the coutles building modles you will see everyone asking for. just let us build them ourselves. an easy way to limit the size of the building simple make us pick a land plot and it has to fit in X spance and no more than 2-4 floors and as we expand our teritory we can make bigger (better) and more buildings. Did you miss my joke or wasn't sure if it was a joke? /sad

Why does the infiltrator have to be LG?
LG characters does not infiltrate because that is aginst their A-L-I-G-N-M-E-N-T.
Looks like I won the discussion by default.
Being wrote: Reality often confronts expectation with disappointment.
Where we have only myriad skills to choose from, anyone can be whatever they can qualify for and choose.
There is no reason why an LG character could not choose some of the Rogue archetype skills.
Yeah, LG characters sure likes to pick locks and steal treasure.
Ninjas are essentially assassins and to have them LG is just a facepalm moment for me.
Meh, D&D is really messed up these days with ninjas and androids and whatnot...
D&D were just better in the early to mid 80's without this crap, imho.
And thats probably why I lost interest in it all when the 90's began.
As I said... unnecessary work.

Pinching the wenches.
Drinking more ale and writing bad poetry.
LordDaeron wrote: I still think we should all start as TN and our acts would determine our alignment. That would pose some problems, I know, but solve another: Most players that are not from RPGer background may not understand correctly the alignment system, to be able to pickup an alignment that will fit them correctly. Good idea you got there, old chap.
Weapons will hover because what you wants induces lag and no one wants that plus unnecessary work for the developers.
LordDaeron wrote: Good points, I do agree with your points.
Additionally, I do think that in some cases even killing NPCs should affect players' alignments. If someone walks in a NPC village slaughtering everybody it is pure and raw evil. If a good player goes in a evil orc camp and kills the orc kids that is indeed evil (though I doubt there will be such orc kids NPCs in game, just an example).
By the way, just to coment your thread title: IMO killing someone's horse is an evil act and should affect alignment too.
If not an act of evil it surely is an act of stupidity and should be severly punished.
Bad girls gets a roll in the hay and bad boys gets the axe or noose... that is at least to my knowledge what usually happens. /grins

I'm still shocked and dazed that we will get ten to twenty times the amount of hit points as to D&D proper and now this, this... Bladderwolf wants to remove alignments?!
Nay say I.
NAY!
My main will be an elven rogue who dabbles a little in magic and what my destiny's twin will be is nothing since I really have no need of one.
