The two Wardens walk away, fading into nothingness.

The Warden appears at the edge of the battle. He watches.

Well that was fun, if rather alarming for Smagnavast at the end there - Smagnavast is now seriously concerned that the Board Warden (whom he thought he could rely on to keep the Place of Winds intact) will be turned into sushi by Innocent Blood the next time the vampire shows up.

Goodnight.

How do you being feel when you is being protect a place and you is being successful? How was you being feel when was being put this place back together?

I do not feel. I do, or I fail. If I fail another will come.

To a limited extent at least, your sister is capable of change and adaptation; and the fact that you are apparently much less so is currently a matter of concern for some of those who have the same objectives with regard to this place - that is to say its preservation - as yourself.

Do I need to be able to change and adapt? Will that protect this place?

gotta shut down for the night

What is 'happy'? I do not understand. Is it important?

Happy is being an emotion. A feeling. When things is being nice and you is liking them you is feel happy.

Trying really hard not to laugh at the idea of Nimora giving advice to anyone.

I do not understand. I do not know 'happy'.

This place is where avians gather to seek counsel. Supplicants may seek guidance if they make the requisite offering.

No. She has summoned me after all. And others. We Wardens serve the Board. We are Balance.

Are her actions comprehensible to you? Or do you not understand them, because it is not necessary for you to understand them?

I am not sure.

Summoned you? But that is being so strange. She was being so angry that you were being here.

Angry? Again, he seems confused.

She was doing what I cannot permit. She knows that. She made me stronger. She made more of me.

I do not understand.

So if she's your sister - either literally or figuratively - and you occasionally kill one another, it's possible for her, if she takes the gloves off and gets her own pretty little hands dirty, for her to personally kill you?
And will that stick if she does?

The Warden seems puzzled.

No. She has summoned me after all. And others. We Wardens serve the Board. We are Balance. We serve Purpose.

I am still here, noble drake. It was not by power alone was my sister driven off.

The quirksome man walks thru the omniportal, though it doesn't flash. He walks toward Alaina's two forms, and looks at both curiously.

A man appears in the Circle. He says nothing.

The 3 Wardens face each. After a moment they nod in unison. One fades, then a second. The third remains.

I can only protect my assignments, Board Champion. ...unless more are added.

The Wardens look at the spot, surprise on their faces.

'It seems that the stone rejects your touch, Sister', three voices say.

Innocent Blood wrote:

Innocent Blood raises her slender arms

MUNDUS SALUBRI EX NILIHO!!!!

She focuses and a huge pulse of energy runs into the ground, causing the very fabric of the thread to start to unravel. The hiss od the Interthereal Sea begins to swell as the entire thread begins to fade

3 voices answer in unison You know I can't allow that. I have been assigned this Thread.

The pulses are drawn into the 3 Wardens, and the Thread stabilizes.

Do you seek to commune with the avian spirits? Or seek their counsel?

They hear his voice very clearly.

Innocent Blood laughs, a girlish ringing sound

"No fool, we come to bring you to your doom. Tsar?"

The black armor approaches, unsheathing his massive green greatsword and slashing at the Board Warden

Tsar feels the power behind his stroke and is rewarded. The Board Warden is cleaved in two and falls.

An eyeblink later the Warden is standing there again. Alongside his twin. Tsar feels his power flowing into the new forms.

The Steel Tsar cleaves at the Board Warden, attempting to cut his foe(s) down

DIE FOOL!

The swing is true, again splitting the Warden. Now there are 3. Each drawing Board Energy into themselves.

He looks to be avoiding the ground. It's a comical view.

Innocent Blood grins and touches her hand to the ground. Rot and corruption pulse outwards from her as her tainted Board essence infects the Place of Winds

"There we are."

A second form of the Warden places his hand upon the ground, absorbing the energy and restoring it.

Why do you seek to taint the soil here, Sister?

Darn messageboard didn't indicate any new posts, so I missed this.

A speck of light goes unnoticed on the altar. Over the course of time it grows to a noticeable size, as it draws Board Energy into itself. Only the power that is used in contradiction to the Thread foundation is affected. It is weakened, the effect is very subtle and continuous.

The Warden floats down from the sky, settling in front of the altar. He picks up the golden corn, sniffs it, and casts it upon the stone top. Satisfied, he floats slowly upward until he is out of sight.

A Stranger appears in the middle of the main floor. He turns slowly in a complete circle, gazing at each person and thing in the room. He sniffs the air. One blink of an eye later, he is simply gone.

For those touched by or in command of Board Energy -

Spoiler:

He nods to the Guardians, and disappears.

The stranger stops and tilts his head to the side as he is questioned. He seems to look thru the Dalesman.

I am the Warden.

He turns back to his path, continues walking, and fades from the thread.

EDIT: For Devlyn

Spoiler:
The man leaves no scent

Worry not. There will be much 'roadkill' for you to feast upon.

Guardians, call upon me if there is need. I have other places to visit in my duties. Remember what can be done, can be undone.

He fades from sight.

I thought the pulse of energy was the Warden 'taking' what authority Smagnavast had with regard to the thread, having argued him into a position where he agreed that those who could walk in and claim things had a right (at least temporarily) to them.

The jewel is sort of the warden's compensation as in 'here, you saved the thread, so have this anyway'.
Even if that wasn't what you intended, it's roughly what Smagnavast is reasoning has happened.
The dragon warily takes the jewel, after eyeing it for several moments. (To make sure it's not the focus for a Trap-the-Soul or any other sort of magic.)
The jewel I will take - your advice I will keep my own counsel on.
But I will hold you personally responsible now, warden, for your law that this place will continue in its old way, unchanged, and if it fails I will look to you to answer.
I may be other things, but I am also a creature of the water and the air.
The dragon departs.
Assume that the jewel will be thoroughly scrutinised by both Smagnavast and the Night Dragon, and steps taken to make sure it is unsuitable for any kind of targeting (except by line-of sight spells if it shows up again) in future. Please; no locate object spells to try to pinpoint his movements or anything like that!...

[ooc]Reasonable and well thought out. Better than my simplistic plan. *bows* The black diamond is simply a very valuable diamond. (Trying to appeal to the dragon's desire for wealth.)

No trove would be safe from me, but you may have this token by which to build another lair.

More of a demonstration of 'your lair wouldn't be safe', but as a token of thread control is cool. I'm not sure that the Warden would consider it stealing though.

The boundaries of the thread are restored, looking more clear than they did before.

Ooh, neat-o; I take it that was the Warden 'stealing' any control Smagnavast might have had over this thread. Does that make the warden the next person that the Steel Tsar takes out to try and take apart this thread? ;)

Woodsy is an avatar of the thread's creator, and has claim. Smagnavast may do what he likes. At his own peril. There are more forces than the Warden at this stage. ;) The Steel Tsar attacking the Warden would simply result in strengthening him, and weakening ST. Of course the bad guys don't know that.

I do not currently have a lair, but yes, if I did have one, and I failed to defend it properly, you could walk in in my absence and make yourself the master of it - perhaps even slay me, if you were of a more chaotic bent and make it yours for as long as you chose.

And if your defenses meant nothing to me? Would taking your trove be chaotic? Or simply an act of plucking loose wealth off of the ground?
