I wonder how the variant multiclassing will progress spellcasting, if at all. Like, with a pure 20 Fighter, you can take those feats for variant multiclassing and still function as a beatstick with your other extra feats.

From a design standpoint, it looks like an expansion on the Eldritch Heritage feat line, which is really cool. The amount of awesome stuff that can come of this is overwhelming.

If this can let me make my non-evil mock Anti-paladin exist, then I will finally be able to play this game as I've wanted to since I got into it.

Jean, rambled on the floor, doesn't really know if the scene before him (littered in stars) is reality or his wretched visions. He sees his party conversing with the insect-man, and thinks he hears bits of French mixed into the muddle...

...Deciding he doesn't want to fall again, with the room still spinning around him in stars, he decides to wait it all out until things go back to normal... He gurgles a bit, unintelligibly.

I'm posting this assuming that if I interact with the motifs that they won't animate, as the scene Haas progressed past that. However if they did, Jean would proceed in much the same manner.

As the squad passes through the nefarious lair of the warlock, with its skeletal murals, Jean loses whatever fear he once bore as it gives way to holy wrath. Mockery of the Christ and His Saints in such an offal display drove the ruddy French boy to rage. With his spear he dashes to ruin each and every figure, until the bones are all strewn to the floor set apart. His frenzy is that of a rogue boar; almost foaming.

In his high tongue he recites that same legendary taunt of David to the mongrel Goliath found in scripture, and his cries reverberate down the halls of despondency even past where sight may reach.....

As they enter the presence of the larger abomination, Jean charges the new face of his adversary, with all the rage of a tired, broken zealot.

"GOLIATH!!!!"

He lashes forth with his lancing spear, to find the flesh of sin to pierce, wherever it may dwell.

Charging Longspear Attack!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 131d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

AC-2 for the first round I'm inciting, assuming that all of the post above takes place; feel ever so free to retcon/delete parts of this post wherever seems necessary, I took a lot of liberty and assumptions here.

Jean, dizzy and faint, wretches the contents of his stomach onto the floor as he begins to process the inconceivable moments which have just passed.
The smells of the dungeon, mixing with the blood of his own body and the stench of that... thing alone was too much to handle, even barring the events which took place.
With a pathetic whimper he prays to his God for respite from all he sees; both before him and within the folds of his prescience.

Oh Lord... Take me way from here... Please......

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

As he recovers, he stands up, picks up his longspear, and withdraws back from the corpse of the fell beast which took him.
He stares at its gruesome form, holding his spear in front of him vertically, hiding behind it, as if trying to shield himself from the horrors and violations which he had just experienced.

Introduction to Setting and Quest Background

The Setting: Welcome to my world.

Czarn is a land made of several immortal conflicts, stained relationships, intense adversity, and immense beauty. It was crafted out of the dreams, sacrifices, and bodies of several dead 'Yaevre' gods, originally made for the purpose of worship of their progenitor and propelling the advancement of beauty and life. However, it all went wrong.

The story of its origins can be found in the Campaign Info Tab.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Story Background: The Age of Long Night

Now, it is the 6th Age of this warring world. Since its creation, the interplay of racial wars and religious vendettas have only swollen. In this 6th Age, 'The Age of Apostasy', much of the lands have been cursed by the yaevre Ba'Elzub, and many civil wars and inner conflicts of nations have taken place, some political, some religious. Within these civil wars, many temples have been razed to the ground, their esoteric documents lost.

This has truly been the darkest age Czarn has yet seen. In a sort of cruel irony, the spiritual truth of this has become manifest physically. For some reason, the Yaevre of the Winds have become silent, or lost, and the rotation of the earth, after a long travail of long days and longer nights, has completely stopped moving. Both Sun and Czarn stand still, and almost all of the world is now covered in shadow; the only light above now being the faint malevolent glow of the Skycurse and the dancing Gorb moons.

However, a silver lining to this dark age; the once thought dead race, the angelic Khime Sebak have been seen throughout the whole of the lands for the first time in a long century. To darken this silver lining, however, they came as the bearers of dreadful news: They have witnessed the vexing of the sun by the Gray Elves, and claim that they even now are mobilizing their merciless forces to be unleashed upon the whole face of Czarn, to overshadow Man in their feats, and complete the Adwar Mael Khama in their favor.

Now, this news has spread all over the world, through mainly the gossip of the mercantile state of the Conglomeration, whose ships have touched almost every society they trade with the news from the West.

Your ship, the Defiant Heron, has recently been given orders from the Union to do a reconnaissance job- 'The Chressidan Job' -as the sailing community has called it, to travel round to the cape of the Southeast, to go to the human nation of Chressida and see if it is still alive. It used to be the greatest trading partner of the Conglomeration, and for the past seven years has been all but silent, no word or news comes from there. Your seasoned captain, Jez Ovgrins, has taken the job in stride, and in her fearlessness has lead the crew to where they lay now, the trading port of Nil Karsusha.

Then it all happened...

Character Submission

We are playing 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons.

This is a homebrew world with heavy amounts of lore. All of the available documents can be found and read HERE. It provides all the information for character options and the lore available to players.

The files that say README are required for submissions, and the rest are only there for perusal, exploration and enrichment. Most of the information there is more common knowledge about the plane, but it shouldn't be assumed that your character would know every detail contained.

Take a look at the maps so you have an idea of everything.

Beware, there are class restrictions. It's not negotiable, but it's not gridlocked either.

All of the information regarding Character Creation should be in the documents, save these details:
- Races presented inside of the Google Docs are the options available. They are the Gray Elves, the White Elves, the Ennim, the Khime Sebak, the Golems, the Homunculi, the Hudorians, the Orcs, the Humans, the Dwarves, the Goblins, and the Centaur.
- Starting level is 3
- Stats are 4d6 drop lowest
- HP is full at first, then either rolled HD or half+1 as is written in the PHB
- Standard Equipment from first level (rolled)+50 GP
- Menial equipment is free as long as it makes sense (you can use stuff from PF concerning small things in addition to 5e's books) Tell me all that you take as 'free menial equipment' so I know
- I will give out different items to the party after Character Creation is over, you'll receive them via PM.
- Dwarven=Common
- Evil alignments are okay as long as they are contextualized; think Iago or Gollum, not Morgoth. As it stands the common enemy of all within this scenario is Zophnia.
- Every character must be able to work inside of a group regardless of alignment; however, interpersonal conflict inside of the party can add to roleplay.

I'm looking for depth of background and personality, and an understanding of the world. Fantastic things being in your background are not out of question, but provide a good explanation of why. If you want to show me things you've done roleplaying or writing feel free, I love giving feedback and it will help me gauge your ability.

Provide these on your Profile Pages:
- Crunch
- Appearance: Face, Frame, and Garb
- Background: At least 1 NPC contact who is ALIVE who has influenced your life, and how you came to work on the Defiant Heron merchant ship.
- Personality
- Equipment

The best way to make this work is through conversation. If you have any questions about the setting AFTER you've read the stuff, shoot a PM my way and I will be extremely happy to help you.

I will choose the two best submissions on January 14th.
This deadline might be pushed back depending on circumstance.
I plan on beginning shortly after.
I will continue to update the Campaign Info Tab with tidbits until then.

Campaign Purpose, Gameplay Expectation, DM Standards, and More!

This is not just my first 5e campaign as a DM, but also my first PbP campaign as a DM.

I mean to use this campaign for a few things:
- To fuel my writings inside of this world
- To hone my skills as an immersive DM
- To try out 5e
- To playtest the massive 5e homebrew content inside this setting
- To play with my friend who lives on the other side of the world
- To put my hat into the PbP DM'ing ring
- To provide a memorable experience to my players

I promise you that even though the exposition is top-heavy now, once we get into the campaign everything will be streamlined and immersive. It's just the work of getting everyone on the same page that takes a little time and effort.

I will be taking 2 players from the forums, as 2 other slots have been taken by my friends whom this campaign was originally crafted for. I will only take 2, because I want to provide the best experience for all those involved.

Player Expectations:
- Post once a day; if life gets in the way, please let me know. Healthy Communication is everything, in all parts of life.
- Participate in roleplaying; Yes.
- Pay attention to the setting. I don't expect you to know everything inside of it, just a general understanding, and I will provide all of the points to connect those dots.
- Use your race and class profile fields to show your basic crunch stats
- In battle, post a header for your turns like this: {b}{bigger}Round X: Init: XX{/b}{/bigger}
- When you have advantage or disadvantage, post an extra {dice} underneath the roll in question and have it say {dice=Advantage/Disadvantage} for clarity

What I promise to strive for as DM:
- I will post at the very least once a day. If life gets in the way for me to do so, I will let you all know. If we are communally experiencing life at a fast pace, we can put a pause on the game as is appropriate.
- Provide a good story that will seep into your very soul
- Not get lost inside of my own verbose
- Do good combats
- Make time for you
- Post Initiative at the start of each round
- To Finish What I Start

About me as a DM:

I am a dedicated student to the art of immersive roleplaying. While not a master, I strive to become one as a means to become a better storyteller. I also strive to have excellent combats, cinematically and tactically.

I do not use grids or maps.

I am also of the persuasion that the DM is not against the party, that their job is to put their players in the spotlights of their story, and CHALLENGE THEM.

I'm not talking about throwing AC 34 Spell Immune Medusas at the party, but rather to challenge the players to expand as players holistically, and to have hindrances, losses, and wrenches happen to their characters that they will have to overcome. I will also reward good roleplaying and tactical thinking. I am the benevolent force of antagonism.

I also am against railroading, but am all for contextualizing. If something doesn't work in context, it can't be taken very seriously. I want to make your choices matter as players.

I expect to play the campaign to play out at least until the mystery concerning the long night is resolved, however that may play out. At the very least 2 levels of advancement.

The link again to the Docs

Sorry about the length of this post, I SWEAR I will never post anything near anything this long ever again.

ROUND 1

Jean reels at the sight of the thing that lay near the tip of his glowing spear. Something that he has never seen nor heard of, within any of the tomes inside his monastery in Gascony, or in any of his fel dreams. His reaction thusly is one of adrenal fear, and he jabs at the beast in an angelic howl:

"CORUUB SH'YA KEILISHRY'AH BERROUS!"

Celestial:
"DIE, BEAST OF THE DEPTHS!"

Round 3

w8, are we good for 3rd round now? is our roster that quick? and yea he attacked the ones in the middle

Jean, in spite of straddling the line between life and the shadow after, retains his zeal in the midst of the pain wracking his body.

Seigneur, I am yours, in this world and the next. May Your will be done, and may Your light and truth overcome this darkness...

Jean takes a step back away from the swiping skeletons and utters a prayer of dire need.

"Haora Bareageish Sh'Yah colurrh borroguy Shy'Yah keis Sh'Yah!"

Celestial:
Thank you Jesus: CLW!

Invigorated, he eyes the skeletons with the crazed gaze of a sadist, and draws his weighty morningstar.

Hailey your character is cool and you're playing her well. Inner party conflict -when it doesn't lead to party dissolution- adds a lot of depth to roleplay and gameplay. You are definitely not leading to breaking the party or anything, you're just role-playing, and that is what we are here for. Keep on keeping on. :)

I imagine that it feels like sipping on a can of Coke, as advertised in the commercials... Is that wierd?

As his wounds are healed, and his consciousness flits back, he reacts to the young cleric who is holding his body. He jerks out of the young ward's embrace, side-stepping both him and the Father, before he realizes what is happening.

"Kreresh Sohl! Kyaregresh Syah Klellib Brahr!"

En Anglais:
Let go! You won't burn me again!!

Before he does anything else stupid, he regains his composure and notices the scene before him, seeing that these before him have hands meant to help him heal, and not those cruel hands which bound and burned him not too many years ago. He grovels in his apology.

"Oh Père, se il vous plaît pardonnez ma réponse éruption à vos aimables prières. Par le Seigneur, je suis maintenant bien! Merci ..."

En Anglais:
Oh Father, please forgive my rash response to your gracious prayers. By the Lord, I am now well! Thank you...

From his kneeling, his gaze turns to see the fighters prevailing against the hellish imps plaguing the corridors of Notre Dame with awe for their ardor.

These must be those promised before me! Oh Seigneur, your grace amazes me every day. These indeed must be those destined to slay that beast! I pray I can aid them, rather than become a burden...
His mind travails to many days before, back in the days when he would pester the cardinals of Auch. He almost shudders.

This is divine. This interplay will be glory. However, would the Gargouilles continue to pelt the poor prophet under the commands of the wizard's spell, or is he neutralized as a threat in their 'scope'? Either way, C'est la vie...

Jean sprints up to the majestic doors of the Notre Dame cathedral, hearing sounds which he surmises are holy warriors, begetting the blood of demons upon its sacred floors. For a moment, he fantasizes about glorious combat for his Lord. He is, as he always is, forgetting details of the present which may or may not immediately affect him.

Oh Seigneur! I will fight for your glory! May your kingdom come!

In that same moment, he hears the gnarled latin speech spouting from the three stone imps from above, and before he can learn to fear, a massive piece of architecture buffets him in his gut, just slightly above his groin! He loses the wind from his chest, and in panting slurred speech he speaks pleas for respite which only seraphs could decipher...

"Keregresh Silphya Liyvyathanni korroboroguish Sh'Yah ker Erbregeish Her..."

En Anglais:
Is this it? Will we not yet see that dragon together, Lord? Take me...

The mercy of the statues comes as comets. Jean's cries are cut short by another boulder, which connects square in his head, the warm blood blurring his vision as he faints into the dark.

Can I get a perception check to see whatever I could inside the doors of the church? If so...

Perception Cheyyyyck!: 1d20 ⇒ 8

I think the roll fits the situation, regardless

EDIT:
I'm not sure about turn order or what round this is, and I'm also unsure about which round my stabilize check should be in. If it's this round (It is round 11 i think?) then here it is, if not then just tarry it or ignore this I suppose.

Jean Lamarre has been living in a mom-and-pop run inn recently, serving the owners for his keep. He is mopping the floor of the foyer as he hears quite literally, fate come crashing down into his life again. If there has been any talk of an overt rallying of the people against Conflagratius en Paris, then Jean has been oblivious to it, in dealing with both his mundane work and the horrors of his prescience.

............

Jean hears the reknowned bells of Notre Dame crash, and the sounds of ruckus, conflict and crisis. He has been awaiting the directive of the Spirit of the Lord for when he might find those whose quest coalesced with his own, and when the bell crashed, his heart found a tense quickening.

Oh Seigneur, est-il déjà commencé?:
Oh Lord, has it already begun?

He abandons his duties, as he has done many times before, for lesser bouts of paranoia than this, grabbing once again his worn soldier outfit and hastily making way for the Cathedral.

We can say he started at the inn, maybe 3 blocks away? This could also be happening several rounds back, and he could be running for those rounds to get to the gargoyles outside the gates, starting maybe, next round? Lemme know what works for you GM.
