Sometimes, Tarja thinks to herself, magic and metal go together. Not so much this time, though.

With a slight frown, she snaps the offending shaft off, and rushes at the soaked, prone raider, gripping her axe in both hands. With a small leap, she brings the blade down with her full weight behind it, aiming to create a roast-sized hole in his chest cavity.

Charging the prone (-4 AC, oh boy!) raider, power attacking with a two-handed strike with her now +3 waraxe. AC is going to be 15 until her next action. HP 38/43.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

Oh! Then yes, change targets and angles, but same basic idea - knock the dillhole off the boat.

Tarja pauses before her first steps. "Uh, seems that's no longer necessary, Professor." Shifting course, she steps around to the side, gathering aqueous energy into her hand, before unleashing a torrent of water at the raider mounted on the wyvern's back, trying to catch him at such an angle to push him off of the boat. Her crystals emit a faint, brief glow as she channels some of the excess gathered arcane energy into her axe, briefly limning it in a purple glow.

Moving 20' to the side (yay dwarf legs!) and casting hydraulic push on the raider, and spending 1 arcane point to increase her axe's enhancement bonus to +3.

Ranged Bull Rush Attempt: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

I thought the wyverns were up next? That's what I was waiting for. Or did I misread the initiative order?

Holy crap, work + gum surgery kicked my butt this week. I'm so sorry for not posting due to fatigue + narcotic-induced haze.

"Ah, Master Yamauchi! I've mostly been traipsing across the Alliance's deserts. I've had some insights into the connection between heat and the way that Talium Crystals cause things to float, and suspected I'd find some further information there. Alas, all I found was strife and gold. Still, both are useful things, in certain amounts. So tell me, did anything in particular bring you out this way?

Tarja primarily stays in her room - if the door is open, people are welcome, but door shut for privacy - with occasional forays on deck for fresh air. She's easily approached during one of these.

Tarja finds her way up on deck after an hour or so. She doesn't seem particularly moved by the sight of clouds or wind in her hair - it is not very long, in fact, before she pulls out a length of cloth and ties it down. The bruise forming on her forehead speaks to a practicality she had not foreseen. Brief flashes of light can still be seen shining through the cloth every now and again. Even so soon after setting off, she carries her an axe almost as large as she strapped to her back, and a spell component pouch is not far from her hand.

The GM, as far as I'm aware. We all seem to be settled in our rooms or on the ship.

By the by, I use Chaotic Shiny's Language Mixer for the linguistic verisimilitude. It's got a few different options for linguistic mixing; I used Harsh 1 for dwarven, but there's some really interesting stuff to play around with in there.

Tarja is more than happy to take the room next to the stairs; however, she offers a polite nod to everyone and firmly shuts the door, spending a few good hours with journals, spellbooks, and crystal research before the ship truly gets underway.

Tarja glances over at the halfling boarding the ship. "If you want to continue this conversation later, we'll likely have the opportunity. Thank you for your business." She turns briskly, beads and mail clattering and jingling, and sets off at a brisk pace towards the first mate.

Tarja touches her beaded braids by way of greeting to each, and nods a brief apology. "Would you all excuse me for a moment?" She barely waits for a reply before going to speak quietly to her dwarven employer.

"Luud," she says. "I'k mus rovvae obuis rek baems rara aesrar, bis sros'k sra kerks omd roks uk kae vurdk um sra kibiacs ok rums ok I'k rurdems srek. Her voice is quiet and her face neutral, but an acute observer Sense Motive, I'm looking at you can pick up on an air of someone's mother chiding a young one for bad behavior.

Translation:
Look, I'm not happy about him being here either, but that's the first and last of my words on the subject as long as I'm holding this. We're supposed to be professional dwarves here, with jobs to get done. I, at least, am planning on acting that way, and I don't see any reason you shouldn't either. Tarja's demeanor changes significantly as the half-elf and his clank approach the group. Her lips purse tightly, and she stands almost at rigid attention. A swift variety of emotions play across her face, and she releases a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding.

The tall, slender dwarf glances at her certificate before nodding to the familiar faces.

"Aha! Hideaki! I thought I saw a familiar face. Well enough; two more journals filled and an inch of road dust on my boots! And yourself? Do you know any of our other associates?"

Oh, one thing. I think it was mentioned that we lack any kind of divine caster. Who has good enough UMD to activate wands?

Pretty sure that'd be me or Nox.

Well...a +8 is at least enough to get the wand familiarized in the first place. If I pick up a brand new wand, it make take a bit to convince it I'm a divine caster.

Nightmare Creature Fear Aura wrote:

By my reading, it looks like each creature can be affected for a grand total of... no time at all, before they save (or fail to save) and are unaffected by the aura for 24 hours. As written, it seems useless.

Edited for clarity.

Here we go:

"Fear Aura (Su)

All creatures within a 60-foot radius that see or hear a nightmare creature must succeed at a Will save or be shaken for as long as they are within the aura. Whether or not the save is successful, that creature cannot be affected again by the same nightmare creature’s fear aura for 24 hours. This is a mind-affecting fear affect."

So we're shaken as long as we're in the aura, but once we leave and come back each day, we're okay. (It's also interesting that it's all creatures; usually, allies are immune, but not in this case! Probably makes sense, given the nature of the template. I suppose in theory it could happen while we're asleep? Everyone has bad dreams every night, but shakes it off in the morning? Just kinda thinking out loud, here.

Edit: Nope. nevermind, that won't work either - we have to see or hear her, and we can't do that while we're asleep. So I guess she can just flit around the campsite in the morning, darting in and out of people's field of vision, and we're unsettled, but it fades quickly.

And way down we go...

Reinhardt: Tarja will no doubt respect his martial prowess, and may be surprised by his intellect. I suspect, however, this will be the sort of relationship one sees between the physicist and the engineer; like, yes, that's a cool idea, but what can one actually *do* with it?

Hideaki: she will likely empathize with the struggle between tradition and attempting to find one's own path in life. I suspect they can share many comfortable silences together.

Nox: this little devil is likely to set her teeth on edge, for the sheer savagery and unpredictability if nothing else.

Finrik: this character, too, might leave a bad taste in Tarja's mouth (har har), but to each their own.

Thirrion: and here is where some complex and interesting character interactions can take place. These two are from countries that are definitely unfriendly to each other...but their outlooks and methodologies are startlingly similar. I suspect they can come to respect one another, but in what fashion? I look forward to seeing how this relationship is going to develop.

Also, a minor character change - instead of arcane accuracy, I'd like to change Tarja's arcana to Throwing Magus.

Derp. Let's try that again, but on the character alias.

Howdy all! I just got home from work, and I'm going to a funeral this afternoon, so I probably won't be posting much more of anything until this evening.

Just so you all get an idea of my usual schedule - I'm a Pacific Time Zone person, and I work three 12-hour graveyard shifts a week (7p-7a). I'm usually good to check the boards before and after work on work days, and should be able to post throughout the day on other days.

Sovereign Court

Hello,

I have a question about the Non-Human Changeling option from the Blood of the Coven Player Companion.

Ruletext from Blood of the Coven:

"NON-HUMAN CHANGELINGS
Representative of primal and wild forces, hags are
supernaturally fertile and capable of bearing the children
of almost any humanoid or monstrous humanoid, although
they usually select human mates. Their offspring—
changelings—are always tainted by the hag mothers’ arcane
power and wickedness. While they share their non-hag
parents’ appearance and size-related traits, they otherwise
use the changeling racial traits. A changeling centaur,
for example, would look like a centaur woman, gaining
Large size and the Undersized Weapons special ability, but
otherwise uses changeling racial abilities."

Do I understand this correctly and it is a pure optical change and all Racial Traits are overwritten by the Changeling or would an Elf Changeling e. g. keep its Elf Imunity?

RAW, I'd say the former but I'm not sure.

What do you say?
