Hi,

I am running this thread as an interest check in a combo-Pathfinder/Dies the Fire "Emberverse" campaign. Characters would start in a semi-magical world (using Pathfinder rules but not setting) and would be transported to Earth during 'The Change'. The setting is a post-apocalyptic America with a low magic aspect.

If you're interested in a low magic and no magic mart campaign set in something different let me know.

It would be PbP with daily check and a couple of homebrew rules to favor the PbP format.

No gunslingers. Electricity will not work except in very, very few instances neither will explosions or anything that goes against the physics of the 'Emberverse'. Essentially, no explosions (including guns), no electricity (except in some very erratic magical instances don't plan on any lightning spells). And no steam power. The entire US has shifted to medieval tech.

No familiarity with the Dies the Fire or setting is necessary. I want to keep it simple. The setting where the characters will start has an Arthurian/Northern European fantasy feel with a dominant Christian religion much like mythical Arthurian England.

Character build Level 1, 20 points, 1 extra feat, no traits, MAX HP, MAX starting wealth. CRB but the characters will be gestalt. Remember there are no non-humans in the Emberverse world so if you are thinking of a non-human be aware you'll stand out. I am not looking for the 'most broken build'. I want fully realized characters. If you want to play a race or class not in the CRB ask. I am very open to suggestion.

The game will have an 'old school' feel. I am a new GM to Pathfinder but I have been a GM for nearly forty years. I have been play-by-post for years.

The game will have plenty of combat/exploration but be rp heavy. If that interests you let me know.

My wife is playing a paladin the GM allowed us to 'create' our own deity, culture, and religion.

My question, best weapon, armor build (she'll be doing a lot of front line stuff), best 'sub' type? I guess you'd call it. We only have one cleric.

I'm going to switch to Pathfinder for my own campaign I am running (rather than playing in). I'll be starting fresh with new characters for the players and a new start.

I am looking for a dark-ages to medieval theme with Norse, and Greek Myth and perhaps a soupcon of RE Howard and Tolkien.

Is there an official campaign setting that best fits that? I am hoping there is one as I am not looking to do the work of a conversion.

Would as Assagai like Shaka invented be counted as a short spear (two foot length handle 1 to 1 1/2 foot blade? What would be the best spear for a spear and shield fighter?

I recently started playing Pathfinder. I was told it was just one of the versions of d&d. Ok, I can live with that. Cool visions of St Gygax dancing in my head I dove into our first character building session.

Then I get to the table and I'm told, 'there's guns'. What's more, 'there's gunslingers'. I'm thinking, 'well somebody could have told me we were doing that'. Because frankly if I wanted to play a game with 'gunslingers' I do it in the wild west.

Any advice on playing in a game with an element that is really jarring for you? I thought about just translating 'crossbow' in my head whenever somebody mentioned guns.

The GM is the only stranger at the table and I really want to be welcoming to him as he seems like a nice kid.

Am I worrying too much?

Thanks,
Karl

Hi,
I built a slayer my first Pathfinder character. Problem is he is almost identical to another players ranger. Same race but different backgrounds. But mechanically we are as far as I can see the same. I even tried to make him different by using a sword & shield rather than an archer like he is. My only skill he does not have is disarm device and I'm not very good at it.

We haven't started play yet. Should I ask the gm if I can switch classes before we start? Should I wait a couple levels to see if we start looking different? Multiclass after a certain level? I just don't want to play a clone.
Thanks
Karl

My wife will be playing a barbarian or a paladin. Which is easier for the casual player to learn and use the mechanics for?

Thanks,
Karl

Hi,

Is there anyway to 'reset' a broken character build. In my brief time here I have heard from several long term players that you need to have some rules mastery before you can make or play a rogue or monk. I have read several threads that illustrated how easy it was to 'break' a character.

You can invest tons of time, energy, and effort into a character to wind up with a character that is essentially a drag on the team rather than an asset.

Is there no way to say to the GM (this is worthless can I reset my feats etc to fit with the original intention of my character)?

If not what would folks suggest? I am thinking a loss of half or all money and trading the next feat/s or whatever would allow the player to go from 'Kung-Fu MaGoo' to 'Kwai-Chang Caine'.
Thanks,
Karl

Hi,
I am building (probably) a ranger whose main job will be to be the frontline fighter. I want for character and esthetic reasons to be packing a spiked shield and sword or axe along with medium armor. Any build suggestions?
Thanks,
Karl

Hi,
I am new to Pathfinder played first addition ad&d last when it was still new. So more than a little of this is kind of overwhelming. Not just the changes but the scope is daunting. Any way to my question.

My party has no rogue and no melee fighter of any flavor. We'll have a parttime Ranger/archer and parttime Paladin. Is there a way to build a fighter type (like a barbarian) who can do the sneak and peek, find traps and open locks?

I'll play a rogue if I have to but I prefer fighter types and the occasional monk.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Karl
