Sydney let's Valeria try her hand with the Count, as he moves on to see what Bartelby is up to. Between high Int and many Knowledge skills, as well as being a caster of the arcane, I hope this is an easier interaction. Round 4, Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 15 + 2 = 29 Round 5, Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 15 + 2 = 31

Sorry - got lost and behind due to the holidays. Sydney will use all three rounds to try to influence Count Lotheed. Sliding up to the Count as he watches the joust, Sydney tries to appeal to the more academic discussions, hoping some talk of intellectual pursuits might help sway his appeal. Round 2, Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18

Sydney looks at both games, and shakes his head. He never was very impressed with physical sports. He continues to hob nob, trying to influence where he can. Having gotten the notes from Valeria, he works his way toward Baron Okkera and tries to seem sympathetic without being desperate. "Tough role, you have. That massacre, no one benefits from that sort of thing, but sometimes the world just aligns wrong." Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33

Sydney supports Eregos, sensing he can get some more information if he plays his cards right. "I like to think I have been able to make my own way, although I cannot deny that my family influence help me get a fine education. "

Seeing as there is time to kill, Sydney is happy to head back downstairs for a drink and to mingle. When he sees Onora Piscum, he takes a drink off the tray and brings it too her. Knowning how the common folk tick often makes or breaks historical conflics. Noting how she reacts to Count Lotheed, he tries other topics to try and get a more complete picture. Sydney comes down, dressed for today’s mission. Only when he hears the others speak of the nights events does he offer his own. ”Someone came in last night, ripping apart my books and notes. There are papers hung up on the wall with messages scribbled in them "Get out!", "Don't squat here!", "Leave before it is too late!" and much more. Even my bird didn’t squeak. I don’t much appreciate it, whoever is behind this!”

Sydney will spend some time researching spells and trying different things before turning in for the night. First, he tries casting Knock to see if that will open the secret door. If that doesn't work, he will cast Alarm to be alerted if anything else comes out of the hole during the night. If nothing helps, he will turn in for the night and prepare soem new spells for the next day.

"Well, not sure what that was, but it doesn't sound safe for a bird." "Could we just cut a hole in the door?" Could an unseen servant be instructed to open the door from the other side (assuming that is possible)? If so, then Sydney casts that next.

Sydney casts his spells and sends a snake into the hole. As long as the snake doesn't get attacked or scare up anything weird, then once it dissipates, he asks Iznagitur to take a look.

Sure, but thought maybe the spell might reveal a bit more about how to open it and the summon is to make sure something doesn’t eat or otherwise destroy my familiar before letting it try. My thrush is not disposable, but if after we do what we can to make sure it is safe, he might be willing to go in.

Sydney has a "pet" bird, a black thrush, named Iznagitur. I am not sure if he can fit in that hole or not, but we can try a few things. "Hmm... bird in a rat hole? Not sure he would like that. But give me a little time, and I can prepare something." I left most of my spell slots open, so can prepare a detect secret doors and cast is to see if that provides any options. If nothing is revealed, then will cast a summon moster to summon a snake to send in the hole and see what happens.

"Court mage? Really..." Sydney thinks this whole charade is beneath him, but he plays along anyway. "I'll go check the wine cellar inventory, and note it in 'my books'." As everyone starts to settle for the night, Sydney takes one of the better bottles of wine he found and retires to the tower (A22), which he finds most to his liking.

Sydney is a little more heavy set, probably 5'10" and 220 lbs. No armor, though, even when awake. BTW - I was a bit slow in gettign chronicle info to you, but if it is still an option, here it is: Player: PJP
Thanks!

Sydney quietly observes from the back, occasionally leaning over to get a whispered earful form his little black bird. "The theatrics seem a bit much, but you all appear to be having fun."

Sydney spends most of his days deep in study, researching new spells and history of summonings gone wrong. But in the evenings, he has joined a lecture circuit and tries to gain some prestige in those circles. He also seems to attract a small following of grad students. Give lecture (attempting Genius Rank 3), Knowledge (planes) DC 21: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 Give lecture (attempting Genius Rank 4), Knowledge (planes) DC 23: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27 So I believe I now have Rank 4 genius and 6 agents (students) to work with on the next persona phase, correct?

Sydney rises happily as Dame Streegenet... wait, that isn't quite right. "It is my honor to serve, Princess. I applaud your focus on the people's needs rather than warfare and supposed glory. " I think most of Sydney's downtime will be spend buying, studying and scribing spells.

Purchases:
@GM - This last one I had not seen before, and while it is Paizo, I wanted to check to make sure you are ok with it. In addition, Sydney will scribe the following scrolls: Darkvision (75)
Obscurring mist (12.5)
Detect Poison x2 (6.25)

Looks like I missed on Identify and Floating Disk, but I believe the scrolls are still good and I can try again in a week.
Spend so far: 1180. I will work on gear next. And it sounds like I am giving up the ring, but that's ok. I am already decent at those skills, and don't generally have much interest in disguise.

Sorry everyone - I got behind due to work, and then this was a very chatty game, so it took me a bit to catch up. I am good to continue. I am not sure Sydney is proving to be very useful yet, but I knew it would be a few levels before he got rolling. Wizards are a fairly uncommon choice for me, so I am having a bit more trouble getting into the swing of things, but I think I would like to persevere and see if I can make it work for me. Plus we seem to have most else covered... Let me see what level 4 brings before I settle. I will work on that today. As far as equipment goes, I see we sold everything except:
I have a few items I had held on to, and am wondering if those were in the "sold" pile, and if so, can I buy back at 50% (ie. just keep in lieu of gold?) Pearl of Power (1st level)
I need to sort out equipment and spells today, so just confirming what I have to work with.

"Wow, you all seem quite adept at this impersonation thing... remind me not to get on your bad side." Not at all confident that he can pull off the charade, Sydney does change into one of the guards uniforms.

"It is hard to question dead halflings. Maybe next time, try just over-powering them?" Waiting to see if Adrian identifies the potion, Sydney doesn't appear to interested in the rest. "Maybe you can trade it in for a more custom fit, Valeria? It looks like fine materials, even if there aren't much of them."

Can I tell the eagle to attack only if a spell starts being cast? That was the intent here - to disrupt any spell to be cast. I wasn't sure I had that much conrtol - I was originally going to cast summon swarm, but didn't want it to accidentally attack our own people.

Sydney was working on casting a summon monster I, so when it completes, an eagle should appear at the top of the stairs to go and attack the spell caster. Eagle attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
