Hey GM (and players):

I'm sorry but I'm just not feeling this game.

My reasons are my own of course and different people enjoy different things in PBPs.

However, I feel there are just too many PCs to make a coherent team. Someone is somehow left behind at every scene as one or two players just take off on their own (no fault of theirs if the others can't keep up).

I think this is only going to get worse when it comes time for spaceship combat.

Maybe it's just me but I find that smaller groups (4-5 PCs) just gel better and provide for a better RPing experience.

The speed of the game also doesn't help me. And I post at least a couple of times a day. But last Friday I was off the boards for approx. 12 hours and I come home to 30+ posts, which is a bit too much to catch up to.

I am also having a hard time contributing because I am currently GMing the AP so any 'aha moments' may have been 'forced'.

Thanks for letting me play but I am going to respectfully bow out.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused and you may of course do whatever is best for your story with Soryn.

Soryn sipped his coffee, "I don't think we need to stay here any longer. You have been very open to us. Our next step is to visit the Level 21 Crew and get their side of the story."

The lashunta was glad that cooler heads had prevailed and averted a potential issue with the woman so keen on 'remuneration'. I guess it's true about what they say that some species are still slaves to their desires.

He looked at Serissi again, "Can you get word to the Crew and let them we're coming? Here's my comm id so you can let me know when a meeting has been arranged."

Usually I take actions to try to get me arrested kinda personal, but if you tell me now that you understand that making a 'vid of actions that ain't "exactly" on the side of the angels is not the best thing to do, then it seems okay that you can get what the Vesk got, 'cause it wouldn't be right to get no more than him what took a head.

Soryn had to put a stop to this line of thinking before it got out of hand, "You need to stop this."

He added, "In case it wasn't clear, the reason why I taped the crime was to help identify the perpetrators and not frame you for anything."

He scoffed, "I have no reason to frame you for anything. The fact that you were part of that tape was purely coincidental."

He added, "Now that you tell me that the fund you took are not needed then I stand behind the claim that I should get a fair share of what was obtained."

"Are we good?"

I had to go on the field today and come back to 30+ posts.

The lashunta shrugged, "This is not what would have been done in my village but I'm a long ways from home now and who knows how crazy expensive stuff is here."

He extended his hand, "I guess I'll take whatever share you deem is mine then."

Seeing credits being distributed, the lashunta inquired, "So we get to keep these?"

He added, "Did the security not require them for their investigation?"

"Now, if we look at the rock,"[/b] she says, bringing the focus of the conversation back to the terminal,"they brought back, as it's shown over here," she says, pointing, and casually leaning over, her soft breasts just barley touching his arm, "would you say that this is the focus of the dispute? And if so, what would cause Astral to go to such lengths?" she says, still studiously studying the graphic that she already read about.

Soryn scoffed, "Money. What else do large corporation care about?"

He added, "Even back home where we respect life and nature, there are still companies that would raze natural habitats and plant a mono-crop just because it was the latest fad in some species diet."

He shook his head, "It's money. There's something valuable or thought to be valuable on that rock."

Soryn recounted all he had been hearing, "So there's a probable link between Duravor and this Hardscrabble Collective then.""

He shrugged, "I think our next step is clear. Let's go talk to this outfit. Anyone know how to get in touch with them?"

My guess? Hit job. Make it look like an accident. Maybe those shooters knew it was a job, maybe they aren't even gangers, just dressed for the part.

Whatevs. We're done here. Wanna get back an' report?"[/b]

Soryn chuckled, "What are we going to report? I don't think you understand."

He added, "We can't just go back and say things like 'guess' and 'maybe'; we need to make sure of what we are talking about. If you think a gang did the killing then we need to investigate the gang and their motive for killing Duravor."

Soryn was not expecting to have to give a free sample of his abilities but being new to the station and the offer of future tasks, hopefully paid, was enough to sway his decision.

"I will also help, until we find an answer or you have a different task for us."

He asked, "Can you tell us more about Mr. Kreel? Do you have a record of his recent activities?"

Sad that the dwarf was dead, the lashunta succinctly gives his version of the events. He was suppose to meet Duravor Kreel about business with the Starfinder Society. He got off the shuttle and shots were fired. Duravor was dead. he tried to save him. he tried.

Soryn stood around the others and agreed, "Seeing this Chiskisk person seems the best course of action."

"Uh, hey, Soryn, dude. In the future please don't send anything involving us to the cops.

You never know how they'll interpret it."

The lashunta was not getting it, "What's the problem? We needed security here. We also need medical assistance. The live feed would help them determine the guilty parties."

'He sent that to the coppers? Uh, uh.' Allison thinks, quickly typing on her comm unit.

'Whew. I just replaced my body with Soryn's body. That was a close one!'

So here's where a GM comes in handy. :) Can he do that with a live feed that's already been sent in the amount of time that it takes him to 'speak a couple of sentences'?

Soryn turned off the camera, "This all went to the local securities. I suggest you not take what does not belong to you."

He then went over to Duravor to see what could be done, "Besides, I came to meet with Duravor. I just can't leave him."

The lashunta knelt in front of dwarf and prayed. He knew his action probably would not matter but he had to try. Placing a hand on the man's head, he willed the vitality of green buds on an old tree, of nascent flowers on a spring day on to him.

The lashunta took out his hand-held comm device. He was used to wildlife photography and holorecording but this was stepping a little out of his box.

He set up a livestream of the scene and started sending it to the emergency receiver of the infosphere representation of the station security. He closed in on the people shooting hoping they did not see him.

He added his own voice to the recording, "Currently in Docking Bay 94, need security here! Quickly. There's shooting and someone is down. I repeat send security and medical assistance!"

The lashunta continues to try and make sense of this whole thing. He decides to use his comm-unit to call for security...

Is this 'calling the cops' allowed via our comm units? I would imagine so but didn't want to overstep.

Hey, I'm not sure if my initiative order is up or not.

Can you please be a little bit more explicit when actions are expected from people once we are in a 'combat' situation?

You got me seriously surprised. We are seven people and if our Ysoki would throw a pink color bomb and install an OPP field, no one would fight at all.

Not that you must. This is not your fight. It just surprises me.

I think has more to do with the setting as well. I presume that security could not be far behind this and just coming on the station guns blazing seemed out of character for Soryn.

Heck, he's still in shock. :)

Soryn flinched and ducked as the shots went everywhere. The dwarf had fallen but he was too far away for him to do anything about. Besides, the shirren said he was dead.

The lashunta replied, "Stay low. I'm not sure what the shooting is about but it's not us. Not me anyway. I just got here."

He moved, keeping low, and crouched behind some crates that offered him some sort of cover.

I'm guessing we're using 'block initiative' and everyone is up now that the gang members acted, Lolo and Soryn for Round 1 and the rest for Round 2?

Do you want us to move our icons on the map or tell you where to move them?

You can wait if you want to know what they do first. Worst thing to happen is they shoot you.

But as that won't change too much you can write your action now. Or you wait. As you like.

I'll wait then. If they were going to shoot me then I really couldn't do anything about it anyways because I act after they do.

Do you want those PC that did not beat the opponents initiative to wait until they acted?

If not, do we just assume what the opponents do?

Also, can you please link the current map either to your avatar or 'up on top'?

I believe Soryn was talking about the three Arrays the book offers, which give you different numbers than the point buy.

They actually give you the same exact numbers assuming that reducing down to 10 (and no lower) allows you to take 'credit' and reassign those points.

Meaning a shirren can start with 10 on CON (instead of the 'normal' 12) and have those 2 points available to reassign them.

I understood that you could not reduce below 10 and get benefits.

Do you understand that 'OPTIONAL METHOD: ABILITY QUICK PICKS' requires GM approval?

Your race has a slight impact on your attributes. Ask our Manteca Imani, MD. From the numbers it is all the same - which is good as it puts an end to min maxing with race - Only if you get your racial dump stat where you would actually need a high value it starts to hurt. You'd need all your 10 points to bring that stat to an 18. So shirren envoy is actually less than optimal.

How so? I know you cannot lower your scores lower than 10 and take the 'credit' but a shirren would be allowed to lower his CON and WIS to 10 each and get 4 points to spend elsewhere, right?

The way I see it is that you have all your abilities start at 10 and have a total of 13 points to spend. Is this wrong?

I just started re-reading some of the rules.

I'm not if I'm reading this correctly but is it true that given the 1 for 1 point ability buy system, you could have any of the three arrays (focused, split, or versatile) in any order that you wish [b]irregardless[/b of your race and/or theme.

Does this make sense?

So your race and theme are just for flavor with regards to ability scores?

Kreel is shot and no one can do anything about that anymore. Even if you noticed that there are suspicious persons you would have to be a clairvoyant to tell what they are about before they start shooting.

Just curious... so what is this 'everything' that is happening at initiative 12?

Is it fair to say that the dwarf is shot before initiative is rolled and the 'additional shooting' starts at initiative 12?

Not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand your depiction of events.

The way I read it originally, I thought I would have been able to shout out a warning if I had beaten initiative 12 but this was not the case.

Everything is happening on initiative 12. Everyone making the perception check is not surprised and may act if beating the 12 on initiative.

Was Kreel shot or will he be shot in init 12?

I made the perception check but did not bet init 12. I'm assuming this means that I can NOT call out a warning to Kreel but please confirm.

init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
culture left: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
culture right: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Happy to be off the shuttle, the lashunta was not particularly looking forward to Absalom Station, a floating metal box in space, as some of his compatriots called it. Still it was better than face the shotalashu and his mother. Deep breath. You've faced bigger lizards than whatever can be here.

His confidence was quickly shattered as he saw people, with guns, take position on either side of the bay. And the dwarf, Mr. Kreel, was in the middle of it.

Manteca tilted his head in interest at the Lashunta.

Soryn nodded and projected a quick 'yes' before turning back to regular speech, "It's good to meet you. My father has told me lots about your kind and it's an honor to finally meet one of you."

He asked, "Is there a hive at this Absalom Station?"

"Oh yeah, I've heard of you guys," she says, her comm beeping and booping politely. "So you do a lot of barn raising, yeah? You guys wear lots of white an' suspenders and hate telephones and have lots of sex with Harrison Ford.

So why'd you leave? You like the soft, soft comforts of the tech-tech too much? That's wiz.

An' it's called whatevs you wanna call it. 'sphere, 'net, 'cortex, 'wave, 'warez, 'space, 'bahn, 'space (again), 'way, 'ntion, 'sture, 'n-way, 'work, 'shun, 'dubs, 'eway, 'the village', 'munity, an' 'Ereal or 'Vreal, chummer."

Soryn just assumed that the woman was just kidding and just chuckled.

It was clear that it would be difficult to get used to new customs and people.

How about taking the Sajan Gadadvara avatar. It is lacking the antennae but looks a bit like the male Lashunta race example pic.

The shirren perks up, suddenly fascinated. "Well of course psychology is critical on a battlefield! A sufficiently trained psychologist can soothe allies, disrupt enemies, understand the limits of an organism's psyche - all to rules of cause and effect! To a well-organized mind, there is no longer such a thing as 'unpredictable behavior,' just behavior that we have insufficient data to predict!" The shirren begins again to sift through his pockets. "I need to write all this down, this would make for an excellent episode."

It was hard to keep his curiosity in check for Soryn, especially when it came to insectoids.

He raised his hand in a meek 'hello, I'm here' and hoped the insectoid would allow him into the conversation...

"You all were isolated? Shouldn't that make you a farmer or sumpin'?"

I'm not a farmer but am I sumpin'? Yeah, maybe.

Soryn smiled, "Well isolated just means that we were difficult to get to and our elders like to keep it that way but we do have contact with other lashunta."

He added, "There was an undercurrent of thought in the city-state that too much technology is not good for the soul but nothing too crazy."

He bluffed, "I mean I have seen computers and such and can find my way through the infosphere. Is that what it's called?"

He stopped for a response while he thought to himself, Only a few times and I never find what I'm looking for. It's all very frustrating because I never have the latest updates.

The salvager's excitement falls a little, Lolo quickly looking to the ground.

"It was pretty slow going, honestly. Less powerful than this shuttle we're on now. It would take me two+ hours to reach the Armada from Pipetown."

Brightening again, Lolo looks back up and licks her hand, running it along her cowlick.

"But all it cost was seven months of my time!"

With the conversation going well over his head, the lashunta listened attentively. he knew he would have to pick up this technology stuff if he was going to be of any use to anyone.

When the conversation stopped, he also expressed admiration for the ysoki, "You make it sound like you failed but the fact that you could even build something like that is just... impressive."

He asked, "Is that skill what you hope gets you hired with the Starfinder?"

So you're an 'all-things' doctor? That's pretty wiz. I kinda like to grab the laws of nature by the throat an' throttle it until it screams for mercy, but letting it takes it's course is chill too, I guess."

Soryn smiled not quite knowing whether the woman was kidding or not. "There are times when I also want to grab things by the neck and shake them."

He added, "I usually stop when they start screaming though."

He was really impressed, "So where did you learn all technological stuff? Back home, my village is in the outskirts of Laubu Mesa, a city state which is pretty isolated from the rest of the city states. I guess that means that we are not reliant on as much technology as the rest of the lashuntas."

Lolo grins, obviously pleased with herself. "I used a Homebright Brand oven, set to self-clean in a perpetual cycle!

Keep it simple. You never ever want to complicate things for the GM; they already have plenty to do and keep track of. :)

BTW, today I won't be able to post until this evening/night.

The lashunta chuckled and made a motion with this hand like something just went over his head, right after he flattened his antenna.

"So, that's all that you do? You know plants an' stuff? you a like a plant doctor or something?"

He thought for a moment, "No and yes. I'm not a plant doctor although I know enough about to plants to know what ails them and can heal them. Same with animals. And same with humanoids."

He thought a moment longer, "I guess if I have to describe what I do, it would be that I preserve natural environments and prevent others from abusing them." he was satisfied with that definition, "Yeah, that's right. That's what I do. I let nature take its course."

Soryn asked, "You talk about the ship's systems like an expert. Is that what you do? Fix starships? I can see why you would be valuable to the Starfinders."

"Both," the young woman in the corner at last pipes up, amicably. "Business and pleasure, Soryn. I heard about job, needed people to go places, do things. I do both of that, so here I am. Name's Wraith, by the by. Daughter of None of Your Business, sister of Not Your Concern."

That made Soryn chuckle, "Good to meet you as well. And your secrets are safe with me."

"You think this thing would go any faster if we got out and pushed?"

Another nervous chuckle, "That would not be a good idea. This is not the first time this shuttle makes this run, right?"

However, at the mention of the Dwarf Kreel Eric's head, and just his head, swivels towards the Lashunta.

I too have a meeting with the Dwarf Kreel. It was my understanding that the Dwarf Kreel required extensive assistance with questions of science.

Soryn was pleased, "Science eh? Then I'm sure I can help. I have extensive knowledge of plants and animals."

He asked, "What is your field of expertise?"

Soryn had heard of vesk before. In fact, he was intimately familiar with large reptile predators but to have on sitting next to him in a small enclosed space was... unnerving.

He steered the conversation towards more pleasant venues, "So it seems we are all here to meet the same person." that never happens in APs :)

The lashunta's antennas flattened when the little drone flew by, "Are you also here to meet a dwarf named Mr. Kreel?"

I am curious as to why everyone posts in the past tense?

I see this more as an on-going story and always my players to post in past tense.

I also do 'turn recaps' for my games so the chapter like aspect is reinforced there. See any of the games I GM if you don't know what that is as it's not exactly popular.

I can post in present tense if it's a problem. A past tense may slip in here and there but it should be OK. :)

He paused, hoping the ysoki would fill in his name and really hoping that it wasn't as long as the vesk name.

As she speaks the corners of her mouth curl and you can tell that she is very agitated.

That's a real mouthful; I pity those that have to deal with her.

GM: I hope you don't mind people posting too much. I know some GMs don't like that because they say it hinders other players from posting.

In my experience in PBPs, more posts and more enthusiasm is always better.

However, I'll tone this down and comply to your wishes (it's your game after all).

I just find these conversations very useful, especially at the beginning, to start figuring out what the PC is really like and start getting him 'right' in my mind.

Just let me know.

Soryn smiled and joked, "Well, that's a mouthfull," and quickly regretted it. "I meant no offense. People back home also rattle off their family's names but that's only to hide their lack of individual achievements and hide in their family's name."

Quickly realizing this was the wrong thing to say, "And I'm not implying this is your case at all. I was just..."

Sure, I work in a consulting firm as a civil/environmental engineer.
