![]() So usually when I have posted a notice like this it was because it was a person who had an impact in my life. And while the Gong Show certainly was a memorable part of my childhood (I never got into the Newlywed Game or Dating Game due, mainly, to my age when they were broadcast), and I have enjoyed his writing, this posting is a bit different as I knew Chuck. Not well, but I did know him. The first time I met him was at my brother's wedding. Chuck was my sister-in-laws uncle, and meeting him was an unexpected bonus to the wedding in general. He was an honestly nice guy, pleasant to talk with, and more than willing to have his picture taken with my cousins who were also fans from the Gong Show days. I met him a couple other times after that, and each time it was a pleasure to talk with him. The most memorable meeting, however, was when I showed up at a book signing he was doing locally for Bad Grass Never Dies and he recognized me (I had only met him at the wedding a year before at that point). I found out about his death last night, though decided to hold off on posting until the announcement was made. Chuck, you will be missed. ![]()
![]() So it's not huge output compared to propellant based drives (we're talking several orders of magnitude less ... which is somewhat mitigated by not needing to haul tons of fuel), but the results ranked it a couple of orders of magnitude more powerful than light sails. If it is actually working. It violates Newton's third law (equal and opposite reactions). I'm pretty hopeful, though. Things get weird when you delve into quantum physics... Next testing should be space based, so if it succeeds there, that should eliminate a good number of the sources of possible errors. ![]()
![]() Inspired by this thread. Should be a pretty self-explanatory game. ... our PCs didn't have any fancy skills and such; we just told the GM what our PCs were doing and we did it. ![]()
![]() First I have to say I wish I were there with y'all. Those of you who I normally hang out with while at PaizoCon in years past, please raise a glass at some point this weekend in hopes I will be able to join you all next year. And to all attendees, remember these rules and you will all have a blast:
Have a great time folks and I hope to be once again joining in on the festivities in 2017. ![]()
![]() So I was kicking back watching Netflix and the power in my neighborhood went out (and man does my neighborhood go dark). Can't really read (no decent light ... And I will not light a dozen candles to perhaps be able to do so), the cellphone has an 80% charge, so I should be good for Internet for a bit (but don't want to eat through all my data in one evening, so Netflix is out). It is still relatively early so I suppose I could go out for and hour or so, but was not really planning to do it and hate to hit a bar solo anyway. So I am posting to Paizo and wondering what other folks do when the world has gone dark. ![]()
![]() No real goal in mind, just some fiction riffs so far (that being a 15 minute writing freestyle based off an image as a catalyst). A little backstory. I have several domains that I have not been doing anything with and figured what the hell, I will put one of them to use. The site itself is basic (there is still plenty of functionality and design work I want to put into place), but instead of waiting for the site to be "perfect" (including figuring out what in the heck I want it to ultimately look like) before putting anything up, I decided this week to go ahead and start doing a riff a day to get into the habit of daily writing. So, if anyone has a few minutes to spare (or waste, I make no guarantees as to how you will feel if you check it out), you can delve into the riffs at visionsofamadman.com. I welcome any feedback folks may want to give (and I may or may not respond to comments, but I will read them all). If you check it out, thanks. If not, well, then, thanks? I guess? ;) ![]()

![]() Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Tian Xia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against a Varisian when death is on the line"! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha... <thud> ![]()
![]() OK, so here's the scenario, and I am looking for RAW here. Assume you have an alchemist with a BAB of +11/+6/+1 who has a natural attack set of claw, claw, bite, gore and fast bombs. That alchemist can use their iterative to throw three bombs and then get a claw, bite, and gore attack in a full round. Now throw in the tentacle discovery. Does this tentacled alchemist get the three bomb iterative plus claw, claw, bite, and gore (running with the assumption of the tentacle flinging the bombs) or do they get the same attack sequence as the first alchemist? The reason this comes up is the wording for the tentacle discovery:
PRD wrote: Tentacle (Ex): The alchemist gains a prehensile, arm-length tentacle on his body. The tentacle is fully under his control and cannot be concealed except with magic or bulky clothing. The tentacle does not give the alchemist any extra attacks or actions per round, though he can use it to make a tentacle attack (1d4 damage for a Medium alchemist, 1d3 damage for a Small one) with the grab ability. The tentacle can manipulate or hold items as well as the alchemist's original arms can (for example, allowing the alchemist to use one hand to wield a weapon, the tentacle to hold a potion, and the third hand to throw a bomb). Unlike an arm, the tentacle has no magic item slots. Since the tentacle discovery specifies the following limitations:

![]() Hey folks! Looking for a convention this upcoming October in the MidAtlantic? Want to be surrounded by the beauty of the Appalachians why you game to your heart's content? Scarefest had been the Asheville Pathfinder Lodge's annual PFS mini-con, but last year we filled the FLGS to capacity. This year, the event has grown to include not only PFS, but also D&D5e, Savage Worlds, Shadowrun, Star Wars, World of Darkness, and much more! And all this for $10 in advance! Where else are you going to find a bargain like that? ![]()
![]() So I was thinking about this during the last day at PaizoCon this year and I thought I would float the idea to see if there was interest for 2016. The concept is for a PF riff game. If things hold true for next year as they did this year, the concept would be as follows. Each swag bag had two PF Battles boosters in it. Each participant would not open their boosters until everyone sits down at the game table. A list of minis and their owners would be made to make sure everyone gets back what they put on the table. The minis would determine what PC races from the ARG, if any, would be allowed outside of the CRB races (so if one kobold mini showed up in the draw, one player could create a kobold PC, if two hobgoblin minis showed up in the draw, two players could create hobgoblin PCs, etc. ... the owner of the mini gets priority otherwise it would be up for grabs with a dice roll to determine who gets to play that race if more than one person wants it). The PCs could be any class (they would not need to emulate the mini fully). The other minis would go into a pool that could be drawn upon for the encounters. Players then would have 30-45 minutes to create a 1st level PC and determine how the PCs know each other. During that time, I would map out the encounters and once the last PCs is complete, the game would begin. This would be a very freestyle type of game, a fair amount of improvisation, and rules loose (expect brief discussions and GM adjudication instead of digging through rulebooks if there are rules questions). Anyone interested in this type of game for 2016? ![]()
![]() Hey Mike! I'm at your table ... I promise to behave ... mostly. :) So for PCs, what is the deal? Can we create a PC using the PFS character creation rules (allowed/disallowed resources, archetypes, spells, feats, equipment, etc)? And if so, are we running with starting cash based off the WBL chart in the CRB for 4th level PCs? ![]()

![]() I had the great fortune to see this man play twice. The first time was in 1990 and he put on a hell of a show at a small venue (100+ folks). The second time was in 2008 in a larger venue (several thousand+ folks). He had to stay seated through his performance, but he still made that guitar sing. You will be missed. ![]()
![]() How, exactly, does this PFS legal ring function according to RAW? Ring of the Sublime description from pg 27 Taldor: Echoes of Glory wrote:
So it is a constant remove fear item ... PRD description of remove fear wrote:
And here is where the debate comes in. Does the ring of the sublime merely grant a +4 morale bonus against fear effects, or does it render the wearer immune to fear effects? There are 4 possible stances I can see one taking with this ring at a PFS table:
If the items had been written, "it grants the wearer a +4 morale bonus against fear effects" or "it renders the wearer immune to fear effects", this would be no problem. By stating it is a constant version of a spell that has conditions as to when the spell is cast in relation to the fear effect, it leaves it open to interpretation. ![]()

![]() Just got two of the boxes I was expecting from my recent order. However, there were two items that were damaged in shipment. Confrontation - Age of the Rag'narok: Knights of the Redemption Unit Box (two of the three minis are damaged) Confrontation - Age of the Rag'narok: Temple of the North Hero Box (two of the three minis are damaged) Any chance of replacements being sent? They are no longer listed in the product pages. I'll be sending over images to customer service shortly. ![]()
![]() The below pun was originally posted in the Overheard at the Paizo Office thread. In order to not clutter up that thread (i.e. - expose innocents to more bad puns) and to see if I can get JMD031's Giant d20 of Bad Pun Intolerance down to 1 (because I want to see what happens when it gets to a 1), I have moved the pun responsible for moving the die from 20 to 19 here and will be posting additional bad puns everyday until the goal is met. And I encourage you all to do the same. Hopefully JMD031 will let us know when the die reaches 1 without actually throwing it at anyone. THE PUN So in late 1960's London, a young Irishman named Sean O'Donnell took a job in a bank. His boss was an annoying man who took to calling him Paddy due to his Irish heritage. To make matters worse, whenever Sean would make a mistake, his employer would slap him in the back of the head. But Sean would not be baited and over a few years he worked his way up from teller to the loan department. On his first day as a loan officer, a frog walked into the bank, introduced himself as Gribbit Richards and asked for a loan. A bit puzzled, never having seen a walking, talking frog before, and worried someone may have spiked his tea with some sort off hallucinogen, Sean paused and then asked if the frog had any collateral. The frog nodded and pulled a shiny bauble from his pocket. Sean was even more perplexed. With a bit of hesitation, Sean went to ask his boss what to do. Upon hearing the situation, his boss replied: Spoiler: "It's a nick-nack, Paddy", <*WHACK*>,"Give the frog a loan! His old man's a Rolling Stone." ![]()
![]() Calling players who are in the WNC area (or anyone who wants to make the trek)! On Oct 25-27, 2013 the Asheville Pathfinder Lodge (the APL) is going to be having a mini convention called Scarefest. This is an extension of our normal Lodge gaming (our main lodge meets every other Saturday at The Wyvern's Tale on Merrimon in Asheville NC ... and Scarefest will be taking place at the Wyvern's Tale as well). You can also find us on Facebook. What will be there, you ask? Well ... There will be boons! There will be prizes! There will be a costume contest (on Saturday if I am not mistaken ... time to get your cos-play on or just give your Halloween costume a test run)! There will be 15 scenarios and two modules being run, all in the horror vein (it's that time of year)! And THERE IS NO CHARGE TO ATTEND! Just sign up, show up and have a blast! ![]()
![]() So our local Pathfinder Lodge is doing a 3 day event at the end of October ... a "Scarefest" featuring horror themed scenarios and modules. There is no charge to attend and we are planning on using material from the CUP for our promotional material. One of the folks working on the design concepts was wondering if we could "zombify" the iconics for the promotional material (cobwebs, greenish tinge to the skin tone, etc.). The CUP states we "may not alter the color, typography, design, or proportions of the logos or icons, or otherwise modify them" ... I am assuming this would apply to the iconics as well. And here is where the question comes in. Would making this adjustment be acceptable use or should we come up with an alternate for the concept? ![]()
![]() So it shows as shipped on 8/12/13, but there is no tracking info from the "Track this Shipment" link and it has not yet been received (today was the 8th business day). What is the time frame before it is considered lost in transit? I have no worries waiting through the end of the week (which would have it at 2 business weeks) or a little longer, but would like to know when it is considered a shipping issue.
