"Oh, phooey," Sister Wu Chen says in frustration, though her tone is calm. "But you do have a thought, donyou not? You said we need..., then trailed off. What is it we need to set this trap? Please share. You lose nothing from brainstorming. And this is more of a brain-drizzle, since I have no idea to offer. "What I offer is loyalty."
Wu Chen smiles at Corin's words. "Sounds like a plan," she says, then adds, "whereas doing nothing and waiting for the enemy to strike does not sound like a plan. "Corin, just tell me how far back to remain. Shall I wear all black. Black is the least conspicuous color outfit I own. Most of my clothing is bright, bold rainbow colors."
What Wu Chen finds most obvious about Corin's words is that his tone is decisive. He will act rather than wait for the enemy to make a move. "You know I will not falter, even in the face of a deadly enemy." Wu Chen follows Corin.
Wu Chen does not believe in letting evil pass through, but based on Corin's words, the point seems moot. "Then we hide every wooden spoon in the kitchen, so only metal knives are available." From her tone, Wu Chen is clearly not trying to be funny. "What I mean is we solve nothing if our actions are based in fear. Hiding wooden spoons is solves nothing, just like hoping the bad people will just pass through solves nothing. Slade has already come into this bar and made grown men run, and his girlfriend beat a man while everyone watched and then let the troublemakers walk away. I think Slade was making sure this town is weak—weak enough so if he takes away a family or two, the people just wave goodbye-forever and think 'better them than me.' "Corin just told us he is Slade's target, and Mary is his target, and Kinshara is his target. Rather than hope Mr. Gag-Me-With-a-Spoon passes through, we better hope he underestimates our willingness and ability to fight for our loved ones."
Wu Chen asks, "Why does a slave reclaimer have business with you? You are a lawman. And even if you were a slave in the past, slavery is illegal. Or if I am wrong, and it is legal, that is a very stupid law." It is not lost on Wu Chen that she is rather ignorant of any Laws of Man that contradict the laws of her goddess. "My point is I will help stop the slavers. It is my duty as a fighting nun. "And as a friend!" Sweet as her added words may be, it occurs to Wu Chen that a friend who lacks fighting skills would just get in the way and die. "—a friend who happens to be a fighting nun."
Having failed to get the twins' attention, Wu Chen finds herself torn between hearing what Kat and Nat are up to and following the men outside. But as she attempts to leave the Busty Minotaur, in walks a busty minotaur. The petite nun patiently leaves room as the big, big woman ducks her horned head under the doorway. She looks way, way up and makes a friendly (borderline-fangirlish) smile. "Hi, Mina."
Wu Chen suggests waiting outside in view of the Busty Minotaur. "I am afraid if we stray too far from here, there is potential for chaos. Maybe Corin will come from the other way and we will go all over own trying to find each other." She agrees this scene isn't for her and is definitely not for children. She says to the twins, "Tina and Lina Locksly, would you care to join me outside? I am working on a new dance move." Wu Chen demonstrates a twirl...
She then spreads her arms and flaps them downward as she leaps...
She finishes with a splits-kick at the peak of her leap—
She turns to the children, "I am happy to teach you, but not in here. I can not afford to buy many broken glasses and chairs."
Wu Chen's facial expression is read as easily as a picture book. She can certainly relate to the story. "Both of them... I am so sorry you..." She repeats the word softly: "Devoured." The girl thinks she understands why the man does not express emotions. I can relate to this too. But what she says is, "I agree with your goddess. There is no place in this world for the undead."
Wu Chen is intrigued by the description of Pharasma. "Pharasma sounds like a lovely goddess. Yes, I believe Mother waits for me. "You seem... disturbed—forgive my saying so." The girl clearly is genuinely apologetic, but voiced her thought just the same. "Please don't think me rude, you just do not express a feeling even when your words show interest, kindness, and you phrase your goddess and the afterlife very beautifully. But it is when you speak of the undead, your face changes. "When a body becomes animated, is the soul not already released. Or is the soul of the once-living trapped in his own undead body, unable to prevent his own hands from committing atrocities?" It's a particularly specific question from a girl who knows nothing of undead, yet that's how the words spill out from her lips.
"Then maybe you understand..." Wu Chen's eyes light up with hope, though the moment doesn't last. She seems to be forcing away this feeling. "When Mother died, I was holding her in her final moment. I felt her soul pass through me—I was eight, but I know I felt her. She was a healer, an Oracle of Shelyn. When I laid my hand on my father, I was able to prevent him from dying. I know it is my mother's power working through me." There's a question on the girl's mind. Either she's afraid to ask, or she's having trouble putting it into words.
Wu Chen said she has a brother and to sisters (twins), and that her stepmother is pregnant with the fourth. Wu Chen has a feeling the youngest will be a...

Oops... that's my Happy Easter post up there. The Vermilion Vixen is my vigilante from my other game(s) on this site. In my current post, my thinking is that my youngest sib is roughly a year old. (All three of my daughters walked within a week of their first b-day.) If the age of the 7th year baby is under nine months, please ignore that first step comment.
While not too crazy about having to wait, Wu Chen doesn't speak of that. She simply accepts that Corin will be back and replies to Thorion: "My step-mother married Father shortly after they met seven years ago. I went from bridesmaid to sister within—" The nun does not lie. The nun does not dishonor her family. The half-brother was conceived before the wedding, Wu Chen now realizes, though Vona's breasts were always gigantic. Her belly was still flat when she wore the gown. Wu Chen was given the news when the belly grew round months later, so speaks truthfully when she tells Thorion she became a big sister within— "—the first year of Father and Vona's marriage. "Thank you for congratulating me. I do not intend this life for myself, so I simply enjoy my opportunities to babysit. My sisters are twins who like the way I dance, and my youngest brother has just taken his first steps! "How about you, Thorion. Is there a Mrs. Thorion, or do you seek such a lady?"
It seems Duke is either busy or is trying to be discreet. In any case, the nun sees that Darion is not too crazy about this place. Like herself, Darion is not a drinker. Like her Father, Thorion is. "Sorry you drink alone, Mr. Thorion." Before she even voices her next thought, it occurs to her that she never spoke of those days after Mother was killed. Why a man drinking and a man not drinking prompts this, she does not know. The girl simply speaks her mind. "Shortly after Mother died, Father and I made a gradual exodus from the east. There were many Busty Minotaurs along the way, only the names were more like the Perky Kitsune and the Purring Nekomata. I was eight, so while Father had his sa-ke—that is rice wine—I would have water, or milk or juice if available." She adds with a scoff, "Imagine my disappointment when I could only have water at the Juicy Geisha and the Milky Ushi-Onna. "The only adult beverage I was allowed to taste was at a dockside tavern called the Two-Tailed Mermaid. Father thought it too sickly sweet, and when he confirmed there was no liquor, he gave me the drink. I remember him saying—" The girl speaks her father's exact words in Tien, then translates "his words' meaning, 'Only a Western tongue can stand the taste. Drink. If you like it, we go West.' "I loved it! It was a cocoa-bean drink with milk-cream, pumpkin and some kind of spice. I never did find such a drink anywhere else, but that's okay. Father cannot find a proper sa-ke. Instead, he found Vona, and I have two brothers and two sisters!"
Wu Chen bellies up to the bar, and says Duke, "I take it that Corin has come here to look into the situation? I brought Mr. Holdfast and his new colleague, Mr. Thorion. "So, are we to go back to Corin's office, or is there another meeting place we should go to?" She doesn't ask if waiting here is the plan, since Wu Chen would rather not wait at a tavern. This is no place for a lady—especially a lady who intends to avoid alcoholic beverages like one avoids a deadly plague.
Wu Chen says, "I agree, what you say of his skills is likely true. His girlfriend seems quite a bare-knuckle fighter herself. "I only clarify what the job title Slave Reclaimer is because, as a child, I made the mistake of trying to keep my mind open. I was face to face with a demoness, and saw a quality I thought to be an ounce of goodness. I took it to mean she was redeemable, able to be reasoned with." Her tone takes a turn for the contemptuous, as she says, "It was merely part of the allure." She adds with a barely perceptible shudder, "I do not want to imagine what she would have done with my body had our souls shared it for more than a few seconds."
Wu Chen confirms that Slade is no freedom fighter. "I was warned of the consequence for going against such a, as you put it, formidable opponent: that in defeat, I might be taken alive to become a product in the slave market."
"Slave Reclaimer," Wu Chen says on the way to the Busty Minotaur. "It is a strange job title, is it not?" Sharing her own thoughts, she says, "Maybe he is merely passing through the area, or it is possible he is looking for a runaway slave. But I do not concern myself with this. A person is not a thing or an animal, and anyone who uses people—slavers, rapists..." Hesitance is accompanied by a tremble in the young nun's voice when she says, "...assassins... "Whatever the punishment for their crime, the Laws of Man are too lenient."
Wu Chen smiles pleasantly at Thorion. "Then will you join us too, Mr. Thorion? As it happens, the Busty Minotaur is where this aforementioned incident occurred."
Wu Chen replies in a pleasant tone, "There is no wrong to apologize for, Mr. Holdfast. I saw a couple on the street, then found out the lady punched Mr. Barns, perhaps once, perhaps several times. He does not know how to speak to a lady, so he likely earned this beating. I believe it was Duke who told me the man's name is Slade, and he is a slaver. "I told Corin, and he asked me to come here and find out if you are available to assist him." She quickly corrects herself: "Us. "I risked my very soul at the age of twelve, and became this as punishment. But the consequence of doing nothing would have been those children remaining undiscovered. For if you rescued me first, the boat of children would have sailed away in that time. "If the slavers are here for children again, the consequence of doing nothing is suffered by your children and my half-siblings."
Wu Chen finds the stranger interesting, and is happy to chat while Darion is finishing whatever process cannot be interrupted. "Difference of opinion and artistic taste are not why I train to fight. It is very simple to look at a work of art, admire the piece or effort put into it. But of course some find painting depicting nudeness to be inappropriate, some music is painful to the ear, some dances frighten small children. Part of artistic talent is to know one's audience, learn from reactions, and let criticism make you a better artist." She then speaks in a more serious tone, making no effort to conceal or explain her seemingly abrupt bitterness. "When ugliness is not merely a poorly crafted art, but an evil act, this is where neutrality ends and one must choose a side. It is not simply a difference of opinion when one person thinks children can be slaves and another thinks no one can be enslaved. When a coward sends assassins to kill a man, his wife, and his daughter..." The girl feels her fist tighten. She relaxes her hand. "...such a coward is the reason I made no vow never to kill. And this room, for all its wondrous craftsmanship, is the reason I pray I am strong enough to spare a man twice as vile." Again, the girl's gold and green eyes affix their gaze on the altar. Her feet remain a respectable distance from the threshold to that room. "Has Darion told you the purpose of this room?"
An early heads-up: I will be offline for 3 weeks in July. I'm going to Hong Kong and Japan, and there's no way I can keep up with PbP's while I'm away. I plan to jump back in-game shortly after my return to the US.
"She is," Wu Chen replies. "But my favorite painting of Her is one depicting Her in battle with her brother, Zon-Kuthon." The girl wonders if Thorion is familiar with the painting. It's famous. "Sometimes, in order to make the world a beautiful place, we must fight those that make it ugly. Slavery is ugly. So is killing, which is why I learn to battle without taking a life. I have made no vow on this, but..." Wu Chen looks past Thorion, into the room of mirrors. And that horrid altar. "...one deserving of death need not die by my hand."
Wu Chen makes a small bow to the stranger who is not a stranger to Darion. "I am Sister Wu Chen, Fighting Nun of Eternal Maiden Shelyn." She then considers the truthfulness of her introduction, and adjusts to ensure she is presenting herself honestly. "That is to say, I train to fight on a daily basis. But I serve my goddess primarily through nonviolent means, such as dancing at Crystalhue festivals." The succubus-touched teenager smiles innocently.
Wu Chen paces about the building where Darion is working. I really should not go in there? Does Mr. Holdfast not have colleagues? She feels foolish for being hung up on such a simple task, and unless there is a wizard nearby, she works her way toward the mirror room— Her mind screams in alarm, Do not even THINK of entering! As Wu Chen approaches, she calls out though trembling lips, "Mr. Holdfast? Darion?" The closer she gets to the door, the slower she walks and the more she trembles. "C-Corin s-sent me... p-please come out if-f you c-can?" If she gets to the door, she freezes about 5-10 feet away from that damned room. She reminds herself what may be at stake—and what was at stake the last time she was here. Fear is no excuse for selfishness, Wu Chen. Face your fear! Wu Chen swings the door open and—
...but also... ...Wu Chen's succubus-touch brings out her borderline-otherworldly beauty. She's probably projecting a bunch of pheromones or yins or both, which honestly scares her more than the room. But she doesn't look scared. She's pretty sure she nailed the look. "Mr. Holdfast," she says calmly (this time), "Are you available to meet with Corin at the Busty Minotaur?"
Wu Chen says, "I am happy to help." And so Wu Chen lets Corin know where she last saw Slade, and she heads over to... Oh dear... The place with the mirrors. Wu Chen knows she is never to enter there. She approaches the area, wondering if there are people working with Darion that can go in and get him. That or she can knock, but she prefers not to enter the building at all.
Wu Chen walks up to Corin—one of the few men she feels safe around... She reports her findings, describing the man called Slade and the mysterious woman. As for why Mr. Barns was attacked, the nun says, "I think he deserved it. He called the lady a witch with a bee." Conscious of her accent, she adds, "Not bumblebee. Letter B. "He said more dirty words in my presence, but I am too ladylike to punch an idiot for being an idiot. I am more concerned about Slade's line of work: slave reclaimer. I became... like this," she says of her body's succubus-touch. "—because even as a child, I knew someone must stand up against slavery. "But this time, I come to you instead of pulling a crazy stunt."
Nope. She passes for human, but does have red streaks in her hair. Her right eye is gold; her left, jade green. If you splash her with holy water, the sizzling sound will be a tell-tale sign. (Not sure about the sizzle, but I take 1 damage from holy water.)
Welcome! I'm playing a Tien child-nun-turned-semi-succubus. That happened (in-game) seven years ago. I'm still getting a feel for how the character deals with the changes. I imagine she comes off as a very attractive young lady, and that there are misconceptions about her because of what she is. (Semi-is.) I won't clear up these misconceptions here though. You can meet her in-game. She is also respectful (or intends to be) and honest (to a fault).
Wu Chen replies, "A slave reclaimer? Thank you for warning me. But exactly how dangerous is he? So dangerous he should be left alone? Or will innocent children be enslaved because I choose to do nothing? I truly do appreciate your warning. But when you say I am reckless... while it's a fair comment, my recklessness is the reason no child was enslaved on the night I became... this. "I can never be normal. Every time I look in the mirror I am reminded of the price I paid. It was a sacrifice. And since I vowed not to lie, I cannot say I have no regrets for making this sacrifice. But I do not regret freeing slaves. "I want to tell Corin of this man. Is there more I can tell our local lawman than 'a slaver's girlfriend punched Mr. Barns?'" Wu Chen gathers info on the slave reclaimer, and intends to go to Corin to report any illegal or suspicious activities.

Wi Chen makes an earnest effort not to reel back when she catches whiff of Mr. Barns' breath. He both sounds and smells like a potty-mouth!
The teenage nun keeps her composure, and knowing how attractive her succubus-touched form is, she makes an expression that is the perfect storm of feminine beauty, innocence and righteous honesty as she replies, "Perhaps if you learn how to talk in the presence of a lady, you will not get beaten up by one." Wu Chen stands before the drunkard, letting her words sink in. If, after a few seconds, the man makes no intelligent reply, Wu Chen walks away and leaves the bar—wondering if she can catch up with the mysterious woman in black who beat up Mr. Barns.
To put it another way, WC just aged from 12 to 19, so the current timeline already has a lot of new and interesting developments to deal with. I want to focus on the current age. (Not sure if players with kids feel differently.)
For me, it's easier to focus my character on one timeline at a time. I don't actually want to play as the half-sibs.
While that's a GM call, I can tell you that when I joined mid-game (when the party was still Lv.1), I came in as a new arrival, which made more sense to me than being born and raised a local. Other players knew the history and major events that happened in-game, while I could play a clueless little girl. Immersing myself into the game felt natural since I lacked so much knowledge out-of-character.
She walks up to the men and extends a hand—expecting that her succubus allure will make her the center of attention, and that the man will happily accept her hand. Be aware, she reminds herself, even prolonged hand-holding is dangerous. "Please rise, Mr. Barnes." Her tone is that of a young lady who respects her elders. Mr. Barnes does not need a girl's sympathy. He needs respect. Once he's up, she then looks Mr. Barnes in the eye and states, "The man and lady in black did this. Please help me understand their motivation." Wu Chen considers offering to speak away from the other customers, but only if a waitress can be in the room with them. Wu Chen wants to avoid being alone with a man. (Despite the lack of incidents, the girl has not been able to fully trust her own body for the past seven years. Especially when her fifteenth birthday marked her status as an adult...)
If there's an interested player, I'm fine with having someone new join the party.
Wu Chen makes a slight polite bow and says, "Good morning." If the pair does not stop to chat, Wu Chen enters the Busty Minotaur. In either case, she reminds herself, Do not judge their suspicious appearance too quickly, but keep your guard up. The succubus touch is your lesson for underestimating and empathizing with a brazenly ovbious evil woman. Do not repeat this error!
After relaxing in solitude, Wu Chen dries and dresses, then takes a stroll around town.

Wu Chun feels the round belly. "This is a beautiful stage of life, but not one I will experience. I cannot not break my vows. I learned a hard lesson the one time I expressed a willingness to compromise my vows thinking what I did served a greater good. "Now I know better: Shelyn comes first, so my vows must." The girl considers Noya's words, and says, "This Yin you speak of... if lying with a man is not an option, what then? Am I to look for romance in the woman's bath?" Though Wu Chen finds herself attracted to women as well as men, she isn't entirely serious. "I think I am too sweaty from my workout to attract a mate. But I do appreciate you explaining this change. "Please forgive me if I am resistant to the idea of becoming a wife and mother, but I will only act on advice that does not make me an oathbreaker. I cannot be with a man, no matter the benefit to me or the... town?" With a quizzical look, she asks in semi-jest, "Am I really such a prize?" Father's advice comes out in the form of a follow-up question: "What kind of prize would I be if I gave myself to the whole town? I do not wish to be a participation trophy!" She rises to head to the bath, though she waits to see if her pregnant friend needs a hand up. If Noya wants to join Wu Chen in the woman's bath, she is happy to continue this conversation while relaxing. She does not care if other women overhear her. If anything, she wants gossip to spread that the local succubus nun does not want a boyfriend. —Especially not some hunk standing under the mistletoe at a Crystalhue party!
Still here. I replied to Noya after the last GM post. I tend to react, though I'm certainly willing to move about if Noya's done talking to WC.
"I do not want to consume a man's Yang—how gross!" Wu Chen realizes she may be overreacting. "Oh, sorry... maybe I am overthinking this because that demoness scared me with all her talk of corruption. "But I am glad you are willing to help me understand my changes. It is easier for Father if I talk to you instead of Vona." She looks at the baby belly, and asks rather giddily, "Is the baby kicking?" It should be obvious to Noya that Wu Chen wants to feel the baby kicking. For all of the teen nun's talk of avoiding men, she adores the result—the earliest stages of life!
Wu Chen says, "I must not look at men that way. I made my vow as a child. I did not consider attraction to women, but did promise Shelyn I would not lie with men. It may be best for me to avoid awakening this desire, even with a girlfriend. I live alone and do not seek love, and certainly not lust. Dance and training are al the fun I need, and Shelyn is the only one I need to please. In matters of love, I have my little siblings. "Better I remain a maiden and keep my thoughts of love pure. I do not want to end up like many women from seven years ago, bearing children, not knowing who fathered them. I vowed never to consume alcohol the next day. I can never trust a man offering a drink. If a man takes advantage of me, serves him right if my succubus body sucks out his soul." She winces at her own words. Would my succubus body really do that?
She asks Noya her question if she doesn't already know, then answers Noya's "The dream was a courtroom drama..."[/b] She goes on to describe the dream in detail. As to why it's strange. "It wasn't as fun as my other dreams. That may be a good thing. Is there a way I can just... not dream of sex? I'm probably doing it wrong anyway. I've never actually seen a man in that way."
The vow is strictly RP. Wu Chen vowed never to lie with a man, and as a child, she saw adult women not knowing how they ended up pregnant. Top that off with her succubus-touch, and WC has good reason to fear any substance that would loosen her inhibitions.
Oh, well I honestly wouldn't want the feat if I would have had the full benefit a level ago, and by taking it later, I need two feats to get less. It would just annoy me. If anything, I think a vow not to drink alcoholic beverages would make sense for WC, given the effect wine had on the town.
Do you mean Vow of Poverty? Because that one looks good, and easy to pull off as long as I'm allowed to wear Shelyn's colors. ...oh, but that's Lv.1 only. So what vow do you mean? |
