Knight of the Wrathful Skies
"You see?" Allumbris calls down to his allies, "this is not our enemy; we came here to fight Geb's forces, not this being." "An explanation of your intentions would go a long way to soothing my friends, though," he turns towards the now faltering Aeon, "you arrived in the heat of battle, and it is hard to tell friend from foe in such circumstances." Assist Varos' diplomacy, to bring the total to 30.
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
"Or we could fight, I suppose." The knight resigns himself, soaring back towards the dark figure and unleashing a lash of lightning from the tip of his blade down towards it and it's newly arrived allies. Fly 60' back towards the melee, and cast chain lightning, targeting the first Aeon primarily, and the others as secondary targets.
Swift action to spend 2 arcane pool points to grant the black blade the outsider(lawful) bane, keen, flaming burst, and shock properties. Then a free action to spend 1 point from the black blade's arcane pool to grant it +5 damage. Edit: oh, and Knowledge(the planes) 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (7) + 33 = 40
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
"We needn't fight this!" Allumbris calls over the roar of energy and destruction around them, allowing the force of the black sphere to pull him closer, "Let it ravage Geb's forces while we report back to Nex." As the vortex of energy draws him closer, he waits for the right moment before propelling himself towards Lilly to intercept her before she is drawn into the sphere, and utters a quick incantation as he grabs hold of her. Fly 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (18) + 26 = 44
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
Not going to change my actions this round, but does dimension door bypass the repulsion effect? The hazy and shifting form of Allumbris bursts into visibility above the horde, but somewhat distant still from the Daughters. His black curved sword lashing out at the lesser undead as it gathers around it a green, crackling energy, which the knight thrusts towards the still corporeal large Daughter in a thin ray. Spell Combat to Fight defensively and attack the various undead, with the spellcasting being disintegrate. The casting doesn't provoke, but the ranged touch attack will. (AC is currently 47, and 1 melee attack/round can be negated, with a riposte.)
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
Wasn't sure how long we'd have, so I thought it would be best to keep it to one round at a time. If there is more chance for preperation, then Allumbris will also cast true seeing, blue, then mirror image. Once aloft, the blue-steel wrapped knight retrieves a thick ointment from a pouch at his waist, spreading it over his eyelids as his intones the arcane syllables of a spell. Varos: I noticed a few things about your spells. You might well be aware of these, but I thought I'd point them out, just in case:
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
As the blackened arms shudder and jerk their last, the smoky cloud that forms their essence seems to coalesce around the dark blade Sir Allumbris wields; the energy of the creatures flowing down the weapon and into the knight's hand. Using the life drinker quality of the Black Blade to regain the arcane pool point just spent, so long as the soul eater has at least 10HD.
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
So that I know how much damage Allumbris has regenerated, how long had we been waiting before this attack?
Frowning down at where the long dark nails of the cloudy creature had managed to find a gap in the elbow joint of his armour, the blue clad knight responds with a flowing counter attack, his blade whirling towards the central mass of his foe in a sudden surge of fire and ice. Swift action to spend an arcane pool point granting the scimitar the speed, flaming, and frost qualities.
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
Also ready, Allumbris' regeneration should take care of his damage before the Sisters arrive, and he'll cast Stoneskin about half an hour before they're due. Unholy Blight is the only spell that strikes me as particularly likely to be used, but at this level, it's not all that harmful.
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
"Anyone can make a mistake," Allumbris nods understandingly, "but all the same, I would appreciate it if you kept your use of negative energy to a minimum for now; your... friends may enjoy the effects of the negative energy plane, but the rest of us are not so lucky. I am able to protect myself from the worst effects, and should the need be great a few others, but not all of us."
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
"I do not believe this cloud is simply a highly concentrated area of unholy influence, such as a powerful unhallowing," the knight observes grimly, "but rather, this entire area is being shifted towards the plane of negative energy, and the process seems to be becoming more pronounced the more death and negative energy the cloud is exposed to." "I hope I needn't explain why that would be a hindrance to our task here," he continues, with a pointed glance towards Lilly, "not only would the Sister's be far more powerful on such a plane, it would prove to be a rather hostile environment for ourselves."
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
Allumbris raises an eyebrow as the dark energy washes over him, before soaring into the air to attack the skeletal abomination from above. If this is a betrayal, then it is a clumsy one, he thinks to himself, bringing down his curved blade while willing an acidic coating to form around it. Defensive Casting, can't fail DC 15
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
"It should not serve to alert them if we choose a location for our attack further towards them, before they would gain sight of this place... do any of you know of a likely spot?" "It would also behove us to hunt down these giants, once the Sisters are dispatched; we must show that those who choose to align themselves with our enemies will be punished."
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
Allumbris follows after Lilly at the sounds, taking in the sight with well practised calm; though a slight tightening of his eyes does reveal a certain concern over the gnoll's plight. "Common decency, for one thing," the knight replies to Gallus' comment, "but if simple compassion is insufficient to move you, then there remains the promise of whatever information the poor fellow might have regarding our enemies."
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
"With luck we can dispatch the Sisters before whatever those creatures may be turn their attention towards us." Allumbris concurs, as the group land to reform into solidity just outside of the cloud. Looking grimly into the dark and shadowy miasma, the knight pulls up the hood of his robes, triggering a ripple of energy flowing through the garments as they appear to harden and reshape into a full set of blue enamelled plate armour; twin lightning bolts adorning the breastplate. The quick transformation complete, he draws his rune-etched scimitar and performs a few short slashes into the air before him and slowly rises from the ground. Casts overland flight and darkvision
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
"I am unsure it would be wise to give them the night," Allumbris intones, "but if whatever you have in mind for the morning would transport us immediately to our destination then it would make little difference, as it would likely take us until dawn travelling by flight in any case."
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
"Do not mistake me, my lord. I do not baulk at the danger, indeed it was the danger of the task which led me to suggest we be the ones to undertake it... we shall soon teach them the folly of their arrogance." "Have you no magic that would allow you to pry the secrets from their unliving minds?" He asks, turning to Varos.
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
The knight frowns at the sight within the crystal ball, raising a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose, "That they are so open about this reeks of a trap, or at least a diversion... what do we know of the enemies other movements? Is there something they don't want us to see?"
Knight of the Wrathful Skies
After entering into the imposing tent and taking quick stock of the contents, Allumbris gives Nex a formal bow, the faint clink of metal on metal revealing that despite first appearance, the knight is armoured in more than the blue and silver robes wrapped around his muscular form. "My Lord Archmage," he says, the magical illumination within the tent glinting over the colourful gems fused with the skin of his forehead as he lowers his gaze to the maps, "with all the respect due to my noble colleagues, it would appear to me that all three tasks are vital; as you say, Geb has proven most resourceful, and able to capitalise on even our smallest weakness. I do not believe that this is a matter of which task is of greater importance, but rather which most needs our particular skills to be accomplished. Surely there are many members of court eager to lend their silvered tongues to sway the southern dwarves, and no doubt a few ships could be spared to defend our coastal regions from these opportunistic thieves." "Now, a strike behind enemy lines," he says, planting a finger on the maps, "is a far more difficult thing to achieve, and yet it must still be done; lest when the time for battle comes, our front lines be overwhelmed by an endless horde of the dead." |
